And I really like the smell of fresh roasted coffee beans :D

Many countries celebrate their own version of a Coffee Day on different dates during the year, i.e. 29 September is International Coffee Day. Also, Japan's National Coffee Day is celebrated on 1st October :D

When you are a small bird, like this Brown headed Nuthatch, just a sunflower seed can be filling.

These particular seeds are called Hot Meats, which are pepper treated sunflower meats which are supposed to keep the squirrels away.

For the most part they do. But on occasion a very brave, or very hungry, squirrel will raid this feeder. And I figure, if they are that desperate then they can eat all they want. Which usually turns out to not to be that much.

Homemade Vermicelli upma (semiya upma) is a quick, popular South Indian breakfast made by sautéing roasted vermicelli with mustard seeds, curry leaves, onions, vegetables, and peanuts.

What the heck is this rather unusual plant "thing", rather boring in a way doing here today! Well, I thought I would just put it up to see how many knew it, had seen them or indeed, tasted them?

This is the fruit of an unusual plant that grows in special spots around coastal Queensland which my parents called a "Monstereo". That's how it sounded anyway. You can see in the link below that it is probably more rightly called a Monstera_deliciosa. Quite a mouthful for a young kid, as I was when first introduced to it. We used to see these growing in people's gardens at Caloundra, north of Brisbane when we went on holidays. We found this one on a back road near Eudlo, a small hinterland town a few kilometres inland from Caloundra.

This is a fruit that you almost never find in shops. If you are lucky, a roadside stall might have one. They start to ripen one end usually and little by little, as they ripen the little segments fall off in rings and clumps from one end to the other, slowly. Underneath is an off white, slippery textured fruit, which is best removed by prizing off with a fork. It has little black things in it that can tend to get into the teeth or the tongue, something that made me quite wary of eating it. But once you taste it, you will be hooked. It is not called (apparently) fruit salad fruit for nothing as the taste is out of this world. A fusion of delicious flavours which may last a week to eat, bit by bit. And the best way to eat it, well, we always put it on our breakfast cereal.

Some variants of the plant don't fruit and do well in pots, even in the house although they are rather hefty plants if let go. The wiki article has photos of them, many of you might recognise them from their distinctive leaves.

If you ever get a chance to try one, give it a go. But wait for it to ripen and lose segments first and only eat the bit under segments that fall off. The rest is not ripe.

An experiment that worked really well - coconut banana bundt cake, drizzled with a caramel sauce and sprinkled with toasted coconut.

So more-ish!
