Here is the second image from my series of three.
For a class assignment we had to pick a topic and create a series of three images. I chose physical abuse in relationships. I wanted to show both sides of women that are being abused. If you cover up half of the photo you see the side she shows to everyone every day. If you cover up the other half, you see the life she hides. The butterfly is an element that is in all three photos. It is used to represent fragility that comes with beauty. If something is beautiful, it is usually delicate. In that case, people are beautiful, we need to be delicate.
Loved the shape of these against the dark and very wonky weather boarding of the Smugglers pub.

I'm Fiona Walsh. As an ethnoecologist I study the relations between people and their ecosystems. I've lived and worked in Central Australia and the Western Deserts. One of my jobs was to interpret air photos to help map Aboriginal lands. In the last 12 years I've been a CSIRO research scientist based in Alice Springs. My expertise is in bridging between local people, Aboriginal Australians and Other Australians. This photo essay recounts five months of research but distills 30 years of practice. This past weekend, I took a quick trip to Fragas do Eume, hoping to find some mushrooms for a macro photography session. The recent rains had brought the promise of increased humidity in the forest, and sure enough, my expectations were met.
I stumbled upon this tiny, delicate mushroom, clinging to a half-dead tree branch, surrounded by some minute fungi. I love how the mushroom stands out against the soft bokeh in the background, giving the whole scene a subtle, mystical aura.
University of Washington
The UW campus was decorated with a generous, colorful array of flowers, including the clusters of the Washington state flower, the Pacific rhododendron. They were delicately translucent, more so than their East Coast cousins that are more hardy. Perhaps that was just a testimony to the PNW’s beautifully mild climate.
"Delicate Arch is 52-foot-tall (16 m) freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park. The arch is the most widely recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates and a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of admission to the Union in 1996. The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch.
Because of its distinctive shape, the arch was known as "the Chaps" and "the Schoolmarm's Bloomers" by local cowboys. Many other names have been applied to this arch including "Bloomers Arch", "Mary's Bloomers", "Old Maid's Bloomers", "Pants Crotch", "Salt Wash Arch", and "School Marm's Pants".
In the 1950s, the NPS investigated the possibility of applying a clear plastic coating to the arch to protect it from further erosion and eventual destruction. The idea was ultimately abandoned as impractical and contrary to NPS principles.
Delicate Arch is formed of Entrada Sandstone. The original sandstone fin was gradually worn away by weathering and erosion, leaving the arch."

I came home with flowers in my hand for my girlfriend. No reason at all, just thought it would be nice to surprise her with a bouquet. After a while I noticed this young petal or leaf, so I started playing with my macro Lens again.
I think it came out well .. just like the dof of it, that’s why I called it delicate.
Just got back from a wee long trip to the National Parks in Utah, and was able to exercise my new Canon 5D Mark 3.
One of my main goals was to hike to Delicate Arch and catch the sunset, and I think it worked out pretty well.
The clouds muted the suns rays a little but it was worth it.
The three mile hike in 90 degree heat was a chore, but the reward was some memorable pictures.
