So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you've borrowed from the only place you've known?

A picture of delicate arch at approx. 1am, with the lights of Moab and the Milky Way in the background.
Painting with light was used to light up the arch a little, as there was no moon at all!

This week, I installed the latest version of Photomatix’s Plugin for Aperture (3.0.1) and knew it was time to revisit the icon of the National Parks, Delicate Arch in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. I merged seven photos which covered -3EV to +3EV in 1 stop intervals and used the new Enhanced Photo 2 selection. Finished off processing back in Aperture to get the finished image.

A new addition to our garden and one that has been quite rewarding. We have been in drought conditions the entire summer and this hardy perennial just keeps on blooming. Small and delicate it is a great macro subject. A great surprise that brings quite a smile.
Amazing how we all want this life a little more everyday.
It's crazy how we pick ourselves up just to let us down anyway.
The one thing that you're missing is loungin' on the log right next to you.
So pick up that precious something and relax for a delicate few.
The best thing about this picture is that I took it at Wal-Mart. I walked out with this image for free, now that is a bargain.
Some things in the world are beautiful, that includes butterflies, my girlfriend and a good nights sleep. I'm hopefully off to get the latter right now as it is my first day as an Associate Editor tomorrow! Wish me luck everybody.
Thanks for all your lovely comments and faves recently, I really appreciate them as I have been not too pleased with my photography lately. I have enjoyed my last couple of uploads, so I am glad you guys did too.
I will get back to all your streams as soon as I can.
I photographed these delicate grasses under a brooding sky. It's fascinating how nature's most fragile looking structures can survive all weathers. Strength and resilience take many different forms.
One from the archives...I took some shots last evening of the Bethlehem Stars (they just started blooming) but didn't transfer them yet. This is pretty cliche....close up of a flower with no purpose in the composition and some textures to make it more interesting. HCS!

Standing 52' in height in the shadow of the La Sal Mountains is probably the most famous freestanding natural arch on the planet, Delicate Arch.
After 45 years on this earth I was finally able to check off one of my "bucket list" items by hiking to the arch on April 1st 2024. This classic image has been captured by countless photographers around the world, and I was grateful to finally have a chance to make the hike myself.
Bucket list item, checked.
this is the way it feels standing next to that cliff under the arch. HDR 3 exposures toned in Photomatix
A close-up macro photograph captures a fuzzy honey bee (Apis mellifera) busily foraging and collecting nectar on a blooming cluster of White Valerian / White Spur Valerian (Centranthus ruber 'Albus'). The bright morning sunlight highlights the soft textures of the bee and the delicate structure of the tiny white flowers.
