How do creative professionals who are paid to think outside the box express themselves? At Corey McPherson Nash, we do it inside the boxa shallow, glass-topped, wooden box, to be exact.
14 years ago we resuscitated the quaint craft of shadow-box making and turned it into a company ritual. The rules are simple: Don't go outside the box, and don't put anything living inside the box. But the object is ambitious: to provide a hands-on tutorial in Corey McPherson Nash's organizational culture. "Our basic operating principle is to define broad goals, supply a little structure, and then give people the freedom to do creative work."
With the shadow boxes, that principle has produced wildly diverse visions. Among the completed boxes: a vivid frightscape, complete with a crank for animating dancing-devil cutouts; a meditation on "what it could have been," featuring a loose marble and a list of design possibilities; and Tom Corey's own taxonomy of "bad seeds."
These were giving to people purchasing cars and trucks back in the mid 60's. Nothing like some Canadian whiskey for the trip home in your new ford. Times have changed.
This is found in the top shelf of the cabinets in my house. Never been opened with the seal stating 1966 on it.
How does your lo-fi, toy, or homemade/modified camera define play?
Composing with Images Press (CWiP) seeks photographs taken with toy or lo-tech analog cameras for a forthcoming photo book that explores, complicates, and represents in compelling ways the concept of Play. All proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to benefit children in the areas ravaged by tornadoes in 2011.
If you make photographs with toy analog cameras (or know someone who does) please consider submitting something for this edited collection!
Deadline for submissions is August 1, 2011
The Waterpocket Fold defines the Park. A 100-mile long warp in the Earth's crust, the Waterpocket Fold is a classic monocline: a regional fold with one very steep side in an area of otherwise nearly horizontal layers. A monocline is a "step-up" in the rock layers. The layers on the west side of the Fold have been lifted more than 7000 feet higher than those on the east. The park was established primarily to preserve the geologic features of the waterpocket fold, such as the scenic rock domes and narrow canyons. Capitol Reef is a geologist's paradise, with nearly 10,000 feet of sedimentary layers ranging from 270 million to 80 million years old. The Waterpocket Fold has tilted this geologic layer cake down to the east, with older rocks in the west and younger ones in the east. Rock layers in Capitol Reef reveal ancient environments as varied as rivers and swamps (Chinle Formation), Sahara-like deserts (Navajo Sandstone), and shallow oceans (Mancos Shale). These layers have been eroded by wind and especially water over the last 20 million years. The landforms are a result of different responses of various rock layers to these forces of erosion. Hard sandstone layers form cliffs, while softer shale layers form slopes and low hills. Black boulders found scattered throughout the park are volcanic rocks from the 20 to 30 million year old lava flows which cap the nearby mountains.
Finally! The man who is arguably hip-hops most consistent artist has finally returned. I say consistent because every album one of his five previous has gone at least gold, which is nothing to laugh at considering a lot of people don’t even get that far, although folks don't see it that way in a time of platinum-selling albums. It's ghetto hardcore and it's ghetto comedy all at once and the beats are killer. This time out he has the usual suspects Rockwilder and hip-hop heavyweights Timbaland ("Put It Down"), Pete Rock ("Gimmie One") and Scott Storch ("Freestyle Freestyle") in attendance behind the boards, along with hip-hop veteran and Def Squad member Erick Sermon ("Walk In Gutta", "Put It Down", "Soopaman Luva"), and they don't disappoint. As usual, Red doesn't take himself seriously, which makes for a very entertaining listen. Lyrically, Reggie must have been in the gym because he has stepped up his rhyme game. On every track he is coming with the metaphors and the freestyle sound that has defined and set him apart from the rest since the beginning and thankfully, in doing so he has finally snatched his style back from Ludacris' weakening grasp (yeah I said it!). Red's not the only one that is in rare form here. Fellow Def Squad members Erick Sermon and Keith Murray both come out of left field with killer verses on "Walk in Gutta". Every time I listen I laugh my a** off (especially at "Mr. Ice Cream Man"), nod my head until my neck hurts and give my speakers a good workout. On top of all that what makes this album so great is the fact that he has managed to change yet stay the same too, resulting in a perfect next chapter in the Redman/Reggie Noble saga. What makes this album so great is that Redman is 'doin' him' which is why we love him the first place.
Muse - Dig Down
Muse are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals, keyboards) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion).
Muse released their debut album, Showbiz, in 1999, showcasing Bellamy's falsetto and a melancholic alternative rock style. Their second album, Origin of Symmetry (2001), expanded their sound, incorporating wider instrumentation and romantic classical influences, and earned them a reputation for energetic live performances. Absolution (2003) saw further classical influence, with orchestra on tracks such as "Butterflies and Hurricanes", and became the first of five consecutive UK number-one albums. The album has a noticeably darker and heavier tone musically, with a lyrical focus on the theological and apocalyptic concepts.

The insert is an enhanced view of what is hard to see in the webcam photo.
The pantograph is positioned by Lloyd on the plaster foot. The touch wand- at Marco's end- defines a corresponding point in space. Then, Marco moves the floating touch wand and places its tip where the pantograph indicates. Since the triangles are drawn on the plaster foot, he now has a point of reference for some part of the foot's heel...
But, they don't weld the outside surface points, first: they weld the inside first.
What I don't get is how they use that point- which is a surface point- to determine where to position the steel for the inside.
This is a photograph from the fourth annual running of the Killyon National School 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held at Hill-of-Down, Clonard, Co. Meath, Ireland at 19:30 on Mid-Summer evening Wednesday 21st June 2017. The race changed from its traditional Sunday fixture to a mid week race and this proved to be very popular with probably the largest attendance yet at the race. The race is held as a fundraiser for the local primary school. Killyon is actually a parish rather than a town or village. With that the race started and finished at the well known Hill-of-Down where the Royal Canal and Dublin Sligo rail line run parallel and cross under the Kinnegad (Westmeath) to Trim (Meath) road. The 5KM route took in a final KM on the beautiful towpath of the Royal canal and finished outside Moran's Pub beside the Canal. The race combines beautiful countryside scenery, rural charm and the history of the Canal and Railway which define the geography of the area. Overall the race was very well organised with excellent stewarding and organisation. There was a great spread of refreshments afterwards. The very warm summer weather of recent days eased a bit with good warm conditions for running. There was very good local support from the surrounding areas with local runners, joggers and walkers in attendance.
We have an extensive set of photographs from the start and finish of the race at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157683287722730

If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
Led by the University of Buckingham, this event series included workshops and events around Dickens’s last unfinished novel, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’. These events contributed to an ogoing international project which explores this unfinished work through a reading group and blog developed from a digital re-release of Dickens's original monthly instalments, becoming a crowd-sourced whodunnit inquiry into which character the public believe committed the murder of Edwin Drood.

Super-producer Stir Crazy has stamped his imprint on the music scene since 2003. His production has helped create career defining hits for artists such as Potluck, D12, Bizzy Bone, Toxsick, Kamal, Tre LB, SOL, T.O.N.Ez, The Insane Clown Posse and many others. Respected beyond the genres of hip hop and urban music, Stir Crazy, has also been sought by superstars and underground legends whose music needs a new edge.
Born Jesse Elliott in Detroit, Michigan on December 23, 1986, Stir Crazy has had many reincarnations-- from a partnership in the label Super Phat Productions, and involved in a super group which consists of Dood Computer (of Doom Fist) and Himself.
Chop Shops smash hit single ‘Heart”, and Kamal’s debut cd Certified produced by Stir Crazy, introduced a unique style that defined the new wave of music in the years too come. Hip Hop and R&B with crazy effects held together by complex drum patterns. Death B4 Dishoner a group consisting of Lokey, T.O.N.Ez and Stir Crazy proved Stir Crazy could step out his normal boundaries and do heavy metal and rock production.
Recently he has helped form and in a music group with Dood Computer from Albany, New York and about to release there new upcoming album. The reason this album is getting so much attention is because of the marketing. It is coming out on cassette tape only.
Stir Crazys sound is unexplainable, and meant to be listened to, not read….
His partnership with fellow producer Tre LB, has spanned the untouchable label Super Phat Productions, and there trademark sound has spawned numerous imitators in the Detroit area. Still known as the originators of the new wave of Detroit sound when it comes to hip hop and R&B music.
Along the way he built a impressive arsenal of studio equipment, and worked/works at many studios in Detroit where he does most of his production. He regularly travels between his home studio and other studios around the area and other states working on many projects.
Stir Crazy’s genre breaking has changed music today and he takes pride in his success at staying ahead of the game with his experimentation and originality. Hard working and confident, his goal is to always stay ten steps ahead of the competitors while making fans not only hear but ‘feel’ music.
One thing Stir Crazy has on his side, other than incredible talent, is visibility. He has been featured on numerous websites as well as print.. He has been seen on several DVD’s, and he has a role in a feature film, Zombie Prom.. Then there are his numerous other appearances and accomplishments. He was named producer of the year by Juggalo News by voting of fans. The acknowledgment came as a surprise, he got a message that he was going to be featured, and there he was, without having to submit anything about himself. The word is out!
“You can accomplish any dream or goals in life, with hard work and confidence” says the dedicated Stir Crazy. Innovator of sound which continues to set new standards, while always expanding his musical palette.

“I was diagnosed with a brain tumour when I was ten. In order for them to remove it during surgery they had to go through the area which affected my sight. My parents had the difficult decision of weighing that up. It could have been that I lost all my sight, but they managed to save some and I have partial central vision now.”
“What’s been the hardest thing to overcome?”
"Accepting it myself. I was told by a friend that I needed to make others feel comfortable, so that I could feel comfortable with it. I know it sounds backwards but it really was true. I couldn’t be shy about it, I had to be confident and own it. Accepting help was difficult at first, getting the cane for example. I’d say that, ‘I don’t need it’ or 'I can do without it’. I didn’t want it to define me but eventually I realised that there’s nothing wrong with asking for help, in fact it’s necessary to lead a normal life.”

Wellington is quite an 'arty' and cultural sort of place. I've not met anyone yet really who doesn't at least go to a bar and take in some music regularly, if not more hardcore gallery viewings, opera, theatre and book convention visits. I kinda feel sometimes as though I'm little 'low-brow' in this city, but then I realise that even if I lack the language with which to define myself amongst this sea of 'cultured people' it doesn't matter anyway, it's the self expression and desire to say something about someone, somewhere or a something that matters.
The sea front, down at the water's edge in the city is littered with poetry cast into concrete, hung on the side of jetties and pinned to walls. It's a very common thing for visitors or locals to photograph when trying to describe their home, almost painfully so, yet these three words, an excerpt from a greater quote struck me.
Here they're seen almost out of context, but it's the context you can see this in that struck me. For all the many techniques and fancy fashions in photography, be it HDR's, off-camera-flash, ring flash, heroine chic portraits, selective colouring (dear lord may you burn alive for committing that particular sin!) the fact remains that by taking a photograph, you are defining your subject in terms of light and a moment. (I won't quote Henri Cartier-Bresson there, it's way too corny.) I admire the simplicity of that, a good photo doesn't have to be technique, and often isn't. We get so many photographers now hiding behind the veil of Photoshop that when stripped of all their toys struggle to take an image that excels simply with what your eye actually sees.
Take a moment guys, shoot something without your fancy toys and get back to the roots! :-)
Urban extents illustrate the shape and area of urbanized places. Urbanized localities are defined as places with with 5,000 or more inhabitants that are delineated by stable night-time lights. For poorly lit areas, alternate sources are used to estimate the extent of cities.
“It takes an Illage” is a photographic essay following the lives of 18 queer twenty-somethings and the adult summer camp they’ve created. Even in Portland, being queer can be an isolating experience. Constantly being defined by difference can threaten one’s sense of belonging.
So I was intrigued by this group who, through their own creativity have manifested a community of acceptance and appreciation for each and every singly oddity. Gender, rules, clothes, who needs ‘em?
Illage camp happens every August and it is a week-long extravaganza of glitter parades, capture the flag and even marrying the city of Portland. For the project, not only do I want to tell the story of camp, but I’m looking forward to delving deeper into the diverse lives of its counselors.
These images were made during Monday, the first day of camp. The fun and absurd costumes and games made the perfect visual for the delightful way that Illagers shatter expectations and invite those around them to do the same.
I am continually inspired by their openness to each other and to myself as a photographer. They enveloped me with their warmth immediately and without hesitation. Director Alex Simon put it best, “you can’t hide from the magic of camp.”
