Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. John Muir
My idea of beauty involves the handiwork of people - in this case I made the bread and jam (from cherries in my back yard). And we cannot ignore the beauty of nature ... including these 2 tiny wild daisies who found a home in my garden.
I love the work done by John Muir, too. His dedication to preserving nature enables us to enjoy beauty in natural spaces.

Beauty is only skin deep,
Our soul in which defines us is what makes us Gorgeous!

Calgary Zoo is home to two muskoxen. Their enclosure mimics the tundra and includes fencing (barrier, barbed wire and chain link) designed to protect both animals and guests.

when it goes from I think I can, to I know I CAN!! It's this 9 year old' s first performance, she did awesome! I predict she has a bright future in trick riding!! I love her horse "Rue"....the bond is pretty special between them both. It puts a lump in my throat and brings me back,...... leaving me a bit nostalgic. Her family asked to see this, I hope they like it :)
For Macro Mondays' theme "Defining Beauty" I quote a sentence by Vincent van Gogh
"If you truly love Nature, you will find Beauty everywhere".
Happy Macro Monday
Light defining and bright setting one with sharp contrast and one with a more delicate approach. One to speak loudly of storms and battles. One to speak of agreements and even quiet through ruins of forts whilst farms flourished. Both part of the history and both speaking out to the future almost as if we could make a choice.
Urquhart Castle stands a ruins still tall and proud attracting tourists to see and to dream of the history and mystery that they find both in and around this place. The stones hold on to the memories that are created in their situation and the reliving of so much Scottish history here brings about great sharing and caring for the past in and on through the struggles and the successes. Like a Loch Edge Loom this site catches the breezes and only lets them loose after they have left a little of their voice here. Even the rising mists give their impressions from out of the earth upon their way to the heavens above. Somehow this attraction is able to weave the sounds of winds and the magic moments of mists creating long lived legends into historic themed treasured tapestries that illuminate the progress of the tourists, the routes chosen by the pilgrims and the seeking minds of all of the visitors.

These wasps are eusocial: "Eusociality (Greek εὖ eu "good" and social) is the highest level of organization of sociality. It is defined by the following characteristics: cooperative brood care (including care of offspring from other individuals), overlapping generations within a colony of adults, and a division of labor into reproductive and non-reproductive groups." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eusociality

Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, pronounced [tsʰépìːʔ ǹtsɪ̀skɑ̀ìː], meaning "valley of the rocks") is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, with the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. The most famous butte formations are located in northeastern Arizona along the Utah–Arizona state line. The valley is considered sacred by the Navajo Nation, the Native American people within whose reservation it lies.
Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Famed director John Ford used the location for a number of his Westerns. Film critic Keith Phipps wrote that "its five square miles [13 km2] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West".

History
Before human existence, the Park was once a lowland basin. For hundreds of millions of years, materials that eroded from the early Rock Mountains deposited layer upon layer of sediment which cemented a slow and gentle uplift, generated by ceaseless pressure from below the surface, elevating these horizontal strata quite uniformly one to three miles above sea level. What was once a basin became a plateau.
Natural forces of wind and water that eroded the land spent the last 50 million years cutting into and peeling away at the surface of the plateau. The simple wearing down of altering layers of soft and hard rock slowly revealed the natural wonders of Monument Valley today.
From the visitor center, you see the world-famous panorama of the Mitten Buttes and Merrick Butte. You can also purchase guided tours from Navajo tour operators, who take you down into the valley in Jeeps for a narrated cruise through these mythical formations. Places such as Ear of the Wind and other landmarks can only be accessed via guided tours. During the summer months, the visitor center also features Haskenneini Restaurant, which specializes in both native Navajo and American cuisines, and a film/snack/souvenir shop. There are year-round restroom facilities. One mile before the center, numerous Navajo vendors sell arts, crafts, native food, and souvenirs at roadside stands.

A wingspan of 12-20 mm makes this the smallest butterfly in North America and one of the very smallest in the world. Shown here on one of its hostplants (atriplex semibaccata) at the Don Edwards NWR at Alviso California.
I have a sharper image of a butterfly of this species at www.flickr.com/photos/25673579@N04/28730652937/in/datepos... but yesterday I could not find one in ideal light, and the only one I found more than 8" [20 cm] off the ground flew off when I approached.

This is Batemans Bay in New South Wales in Australia. A beautiful clear sky and warm colours for sunrise. We're not often on the east coast of Australia so civil twlight pre-sunrise shots like this are always a treat.

I chose this photo to represent this quote as I feel the dew drops depict her tears - and the web, her captivity. However, looking at the web today, you see the beauty in its intricacies and the tears have turned to gems.
It's light that gives definition to our imagination, to our truth. Light defines the shapes and waves and recesses of any expansion. Darkness is descension, a byproduct of absence of light. That is the reason when you open a small bracket to the rush of a flickering wave, life as already perceived is forever no more. No amount of absence can wipe out what is now recorded. A new space, a new possibility, a free form has been permitted and nothing can fend off the penetration of this truth. We now reshape our imagination.
Whether it’s close to home or in a different state or a different country. Trees are in their own class of beauty. If they’re very tall or not it really doesn’t matter. They help define Nature. Trees can help create great landscapes. Trees can beautify sunrises or sunsets. “Trees Define Beauty” so much so that man needs to plant two trees to replace every tree taken down. Planting trees helps to keep the soil healthy and keep the air healthy to breathe. Gratitude and Kindness can grow on trees too so plant a soon. Where we live now we plant a tree for every year we live here.
"I define nothing. Not beauty, not patriotism. I take each thing as it is, without prior rules about what it should be."
~ Bob Dylan
