"Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy." - Anne Frank. There was a tree that she could catch a glimpse of from an attic window in the place where they were in hiding. She managed to find beauty while immersed in the depths of ugliness. This is a leaf from a huge Water Oak that is in our yard. It's not the same kind of tree as that which Anne viewed but I think she would still see the beauty.
Beauty is harmony and aesthetics but the small bumps and mistakes give it the individual character

Defining beauty
I'm getting a lot of use out of my Sumac tree this year. My eyes are bug-eyed from all of the Macro I've been doing lately. Still more Fall shots to come, not enough time to process them all.

Hello to anyone that read this! It's been a long time since my last upload... I was on a trip and had a lot of stuff going on when I came back to my home and I have just recently been able to work on my photos again.
Anyway, about this picture. Have you ever feel like you are walking on an already defined path but somewhere along the way you started to feel... doubtful? There should always be more possibilities out there. Are they reachable? What if I stray away? Would I be able to come back?
Well, I tried to materialized that feeling.
Going through my set from Iceland found an interesting image of the aurora with the mountains sharper and odd effect above the mountains resembling a pumpkin or face or house even !!
So this was one of a series of test shots to see if there was any activity in the sky - my first shots of northern lights in my life. Had a sloping roof to my hotel room with a velux window looking out over this scene. Shot was taken at 9:42pm - handheld resting on the open window frame with 0.5 second shutter f/2.8 aperture, ISO 3200 at 22mm focal length. Noise reduction - used Define 2.
The Northern Lights - it all dis-appeared in 20 minutes .
But like the pumpkin like effect in the centre just above mountains, with holes in the cloud cover allowing the aurora to shine through. {This is a straight shot no cutting and pasting by the way.}
So many times, I let myself feel overwhelmed, like the walls of my world are pushing in on me, and all I can do is cower, or deflect.
This shot reminds me that I define my own world, as much as it defines me...and this shot aligns me in the direction of what is most important...

Another leaf ;-) Rose hip leaf with rose hips attached - or probably the other way around ;-), plucked during yesterday's Sunday walk at the park. The photos weren't much, as it was very windy, the light wasn't good, and I felt rather uninspired, too, but I took a few rose-hips home, hoping to get at least a decent shot of something. I nearly skipped, it was late, but then I took a closer look at the leaves - and saw this one smile. It is this imperfection created by the dryness and heat of this summer, by age, the leaf's slightly crooked, pointy "nose", the beginning "autumnisation", which make this leaf so beautiful and special. Had it been perfectly fresh and green, it would have been perfectly beautiful. And a rose hip leaf amongst many others. And of course this leaf today is a leaf amongst many others ;-), each single one unique and beautiful in its own right.

Noch ein Blatt ;-) Eine Hagebuttenblatt, mit Hagebutten dran (oder eher umgekehrt), gestern von einem Spaziergang im Natur-Park Schöneberger Südgelände mitgebracht. Ich hätte wieder fast ausfallen lassen, hatte keine rechte Idee für's Thema, es war windig, schlechtes Licht... Aber ich dachte, dass ich vielleicht wenigstens zuhause ein vernünftiges, wenn auch nicht sonderlich originelles Foto zustande bringen könnte. Bei genauer Betrachtung sah ich dieses Blatt lächeln - immerhin etwas ;-) Und es sind auch diese Spuren des beginnenden Verfalls, der Trockenheit des Sommers, die das Blatt eben anders, in meinen Augen auch besonders schön, machen.
Aufgenommen mit der Kamera-internen Fokus-Stacking-Funktion, die mich mal wieder auf's Neue beeindruckt hat. Entwickelt in Luminar (u. a. Detailverbesserung, Mikrostruktur, Grünverbesserung) und Niks Viveza. Bitte "Z" drücken.
Ich wünsche Euch eine schöne neue Woche mit hoffentlich vielen Gelegenheiten zum Lächeln ;-)

Monte Baldo Range and Lake Garda 20230714
Mount Baldo is the westernmost mountain range of the Venetian Pre-Alps; three quarters of it belonging to the province of Verona and one quarter to Trentino; it stretches for over 30km from South to North, nestled between Val d'Adige (to the east) and Lake Garda (to the west).
As any peak of the Alps, Mount Baldo was formed by alpine orogeny, an uplifting process started more than 100 millions years ago whose main phase took place between 50 and 20 millions years ago.
Mount Baldo could be defined an Alpine mountain "with full rights" as, at the end of its main uplifting phase its peaks raised over 3000 m a.s.l.
However, unlike other Alpine mountains reaching 3000-4000 m of height whose main elements are volcanic and metamorphic rocks, Mount Baldo particularly suffers the effects of high erosion because of its constitutive parts.
Sedimentary rocks settled on the sea bottom affected by erosion mainly provoked by water, are the predominant element of Mount Baldo.
Ice and water together with others erosive factors, day after day, grain after grain, have been slowly dismantling this mountain for milions of years; but this is part of the process of erosion affecting any mountain chain.
The intensity of the colours in this sunset was amazing. First the sky was completely orange with a lot of defined beams shooting out from behind the mountain in the middle. I was driving like crazy to find a suitable location. By the time i got to the pier, the orange glow had already started to subside, but then other colours started to shine through for a brief moment. I got there in time for a few shots, and then it was over.

An often quoted expression with a long history of usage - and I have resisted the temptation to provide that history here.
I suspect my play on words is somewhat shallow but what cannot be denied is the magnificence and beauty of these creatures. I hope you agree!

Macro Mondays Week34 - Defining beauty
Look into nature and you will find as much beauty as you want.
South America, Brasil, Sao Paulo, Centre, Avenida Ipiranga, Edificio Copan, Oscar Niemeyer (slightly cut)
The Copan building (1963) is defined by its tightly spaced and deep undulating brises soleil. There are 1160 apartments on 32 floors in the building and its height is 112 m. It is the biggest structure in armed concrete of São Paulo and the most populous (5000 people) residential high rise in the world.
Copan stands for Company Pan-American. This imposing and maybe somewhat intimidating masterpiece of Brazilian modernism was designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The building was planned as a place where people with different ways of living and cultural identity could coexist in harmony. To facilitate that, various areas for recreation and meeting had been projected, such as a cinema, a theatre, a big restaurant and a hotel. Due to problems with the building permit and bankruptcy, the building process was halted for a few years and the project design modified - the hotel, the theatre and the big family apartments were deleted from the design, vital elements for the planned modernist function of the building - and reason enough for Niemeyer to leave the project before it was completed.
An award-winning book about living in the building has been written by Regina Rheda: ”Arca sem Noé- Histórias do Edifício Copan” (Ark without Noah). It’s part of “First World Third Class and Other Tales of the Global Mix”, a translated compilation of Regina Rheda's work (University of Texas Press, 2005) – highly recommended.
