Dwarfed by modernism and overwhelmed by the clamor of city life, the Church of The Redeemer stands in defiance as a refuge for calm and faith. Built in 1879 according to the Gothic revival style, the building itself was redeemed in 1986 after falling on hard times with a dwindling congregation. Today it flourishes once again.

An enormous boulder stands completely alone on the descent from Snowdon. The surface was curiously mottled with holes like a massive sponge! Most strange indeed! I kinda wish i had shot this on the tripod now, but i ended up shooting it handheld at a high ISO as i was trying to keep up with my friends who were now some distance in front!

A wonderful bits and pieces sculpture of a protesting shearer and his dog depicting the defiance of the strikers during the great shearer's strike in and around Barcaldine in 1891. He is holding the Eureka Southern Cross Flag (read link below and next shot of the plaque) which still holds great meaning for many Australians today. In debate over recent years about a new flag for Australia, some have suggested that this well known flag become our nation's new flag.
