Taken at Point Defiance in Tacoma WA

A few weeks ago now, myself and a good friend of mine visited Brighton, Portslade and Shoreham for a day of long exposure photography. The conditions were fantastic, in that there was: 100% cloud pretty much all day, the tides were pretty much spot on for the location, the sea was as choppy as anything. BUT, my god the sea spray was unbelievable we were having to wipe both lenses and filters after every single shot and to add insult to injury our tripods were shaking from the 30mph gusts.

Having spent a good few hours around Portslade and Shoreham harbour, we admitted defeat and were going to retire to a nearby cafe for a well deserved beer when we went to the other side of Shoreham harbour and saw that the tide was so low that we could actually stand on this sea defence and couldn't resist a go at this. Portslade and Shoreham is a location that I've visited MANY times, but the weather has always been either clear blue skies or similar to the conditions we faced that day, but thankfully for this shot the breaker actually shielded the sea spray and the harbour wall behind us shielded the wind.

Anyway, this is a location that I will be visiting again and I'm pleased to say that on one of those occasions will be with Doug Chinnery as him and I are going to be running a long exposure workshop together there on 12th November. If you're interested then please contact either Doug or myself for more details. Brighton, Portslade and Shoreham have a lot to offer for long exposure photography, so I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the location... fingers crossed for the weather ;-)

I really ought to buy a tripod.. trying to find something to rest the camera on can be a challenge.

Its pretty hard to do Zoolights justice through photos. Its something that you should really check out if you have the chance.

The tree is kind of the centerpiece of it all.

I believe it has something like 30,000 lights on it, and over 500,000 are used throughout the zoo.

The arrogance of youth… I don't know what was going on but you can tell she wasn't going to be defeated.

Interestingness: #77.

A recent trip up into the alpine looking for some sunset colour revealed nothing by flat light and cloud. But it also provided this interesting portrait of a cluster of trees encased in snow.

Lately I’m thinking why do I keep photos all to myself? Same questions I have asked myself over and over again, promised to share more and have broken such promises more often than ever. I shoot photos all the time – from weddings, to portraits, to personal pieces- but never fully feel the need to share it for the world to see.

I don’t know if anyone can ever relate but there’s this fear that my “art” might not be appreciated. Not liked. That it is and was NOT ever good enough. This photo in particular was taken last May, from another epic collaboration with brilliant creatives that I’m blessed to know; most especially the one and only Master Mang Tacio. I wanted to convey how we perceive reality, where is up after all? This concept isn’t new per se but it is new for me, to try things I haven’t tried before. But it has taken me so long to go over this image because yes, the same fear crept in.

I want to start a day where I let go of those fears and finally embrace what I am capable of.

Probably this would be the start, I hope.

My favourite tree again, but this time I walked right up to it.

The act of defiance? I had to do a considerable amount of trespassing to achieve this.
