The imposing neo-classical Sts Peter & Paul church in Athlone is most memorable for the outstanding sequence of richly illustrative windows by Harry Clarke Studios of Dublin, made long after the death of Clarke himself, but magnificently paying homage to his incredibly rich colouing and stylisation.
These are simply some of the most stunning windows I've ever seen, and though Harry Clarke's name is the one remembered here, it is Richard King who deserves to be better known for these magnificent works, created long after the death of Clarke himself by King whilst chief designer for Harry Clarke Studios in Dublin, carrying on the studios brilliant output in a style showing much affinity with the master himself and worthy of comparison,.
This window represents Christ in Glory surrounded by various saints. It is somewhat tucked away in the small mortuary chapel in the south west corner of the nave (beneath the right hand tower of the facade).

So it was a snowy weekend and lots of people went sledging. Some brought home made sledges (I kid you not when I tell you we saw someone with a toilet seat) and others had bought those plastic ones. On our way back to the car, I saw this chap who had one of those rubber tyres that you usually see in the swimming pool, except he had wrapped it in plastic.
Now that's dedication for you. This photo is dedicated to that man. I hope he landed safetly and had lots of fun playing.
