Right behind the tree - The building of the Brotherhood of Blackheads is one of the most iconic buildings of Old Riga (Vecrīga). The tallest building is St. Peter's Church is a Lutheran church in Riga.
In June 2010, the Spruce Summer Garden Festival was held in Riga. The festival was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Christian tradition of installing a decorated Christmas tree.
Variously decorated Christmas trees were installed in four districts of the Old Riga. They stood until the beginning of New 2011.

This week's macro Monday is dedicated to my heart's desire...
Dedicated to all the wonderful artists and photographers I've met on flickr, who share the beauty of the world everyday with the rest of the world!!
Dedicated in 2004, this Boone County Kentucky park contains 43 acres and has a 1.3 mile paved path with a great view of the Ohio River. There are porta potty's and picnic shelters at both ends of the trail. Located on the downriver end of rural route 8, it's never crowded and litter free. It's a gem for a little solitude.

Dedicated to the saints Bartholomew, Mark and John the Baptist, it was built between 1472 and 1476 as the personal shrine for the condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni, a member of one of the most outstanding families of the city, and his beloved daughter Medea. The site chosen was that of the sacristy of the nearby church of Santa Maria Maggiore, which was demolished by Colleoni's soldiers. The design was entrusted to Giovanni Antonio Amadeo, whose plan respected the style of the church, as can be seen from the octagonal tambour of the dome and in the lantern cusp, as well as in the use of polychrome marbles.
Капелла Коллеони – это шедевр ренессансной архитектуры. Построили достопримечательность в XV ст. и после этого не переделывали (лишь реставрировали), что является редким случаем для Италии. Эту необычайно красивую постройку, облицованную разноцветным мрамором, возвели по велению Бартоломео Коллеони (Bartolomeo Colleoni) на месте северо-западной апсиды Санта-Мария-Маджоре. Её снесли по его приказу солдаты. Строительство достопримечательности поручили архитектору Джованни Антонио Амадео (Giovanni Antonio Amadeo), который при разработке проекта учитывал архитектурные особенности базилики Санта-Мария-Маджоре. This dramatic looking character is taken in detail from a group of statues, sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock and is placed at the centre of Queens' Gardens on front of Buckingham Palace and is dedicated to Queen Victoria. It was finally installed in 1924 but originally dedicated in 1911. The group is topped by the "Peace" statue in gold. It's a wonderful group of figures.

And, as an addition to my recent fatalistic cribbing, raise yer hands all those who feel we're gonna have many Mordors dotting all of earth, very soon. Might not look as cool as Tolkien's (or Jackson's) Mordor, but will be equally hot.
Btw, if you look closely, my version of Sauron's eye has two eyes :P. And they're not directly above the tower (which, unlike Barad-dur, is made of rods and other steel things), rather, a lil to the left in your view. Sauron being pushed off his mighty perch? Can that happen in today's world?
Also, almost no editing. Just raised the sharpness. Surprisingly, I didn't touch the contrast slider this time around.

Jervaulx Abbey is England’s largest privately owned Cistercian Abbey and relies totally on donations to survive. Jervaulx Abbey in East Witton, near the city of Ripon, was one of the great Cistercian abbeys of Yorkshire, dedicated to St. Mary in 1156. It is a Grade I listed building. The place-name Jervaulx is first attested in 1145, where it appears as Jorvalle.
