We are dedicated to saving lives and to building stronger families and communities. Through education, research, advocacy, and a focus on young adults ages 14–25, Active Minds is opening up the conversation about mental health and creating lasting change in the way mental health is talked about, cared for, and valued in the United States.
16 YEARS OF IMPACT
Active Minds is a national leader for young adult mental health advocacy and suicide prevention. Headquartered in Washington, DC, Active Minds brings to mental health what no other organization can — the voice of young people who are disproportionately affected by mental illnesses and the way mental health is addressed on campuses and in society at large.
Now in its sixteenth year, Active Minds is at more than 800 colleges and high schools nationwide, including 550 student-led chapters. Our programs and services empower students to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, create communities of support, and ultimately save lives.

Brian Malmon was a smart, popular, and fun student through high school and college. In the beginning of his freshman year at Columbia University, he started struggling with depression and psychosis, but concealed his symptoms from everyone around him for three years. In the middle of his senior year, he returned home and began receiving treatment for what was later diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder.
His underlying depression was left untreated and only worsened as he continued to hide his distress from his friends. “The depression had created a space for him where he felt like he was the only one, that all of it was his fault,” says Alison.
A year and a half later on March 24, 2000, as Alison was wrapping up her freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania, Brian ended his life.

Chania Cathedral, dedicated to Panagia Trimartyri (Virgin of the Three Martyrs), the patron saint of Chania.
It is called “Trimartyri” because, while the central aisle is dedicated to the Virgin, the north aisle is dedicated to St Nicholas and the south aisle to the Three Hierarchs. It is not known when the first church was built, but it was definitely there in the Venetian period.
The Ottomans turned the church into a soap factory. The boiler for the soap ingredients was where the bell tower now stands. However, the icon of the Presentation of the Virgin was kept in a storeroom inside the church, with an oil-lamp always lit before it, on the sufferance of the Turkish Pasha of Chania.
In the mid-19th century a man called A. Tserkaris worked at the soap factory. Legend has it that the Virgin appeared to him in a vision and told him to leave, because she did not want her house to be a soap factory. Tserkaris left, taking the icon with him.
A little later, the child of Mustapha Naili Pasha accidentally fell into the well south of the church. In despair, Mustapha Pasha called upon the Virgin to save his child, in return for which he would give the church back to the Christians of Chania. The Virgin miraculously saved the child, the soap factory was handed over to the Christian community to build a new church, and Tserkaris returned the icon of the Presentation of the Virgin.
The cathedral had just been completed when it was damaged in the 1897 Revolution. It was restored at the expense of the Tsar of Russia, to make amends for the Russian bombardment of Akrotiri. The cathedral bell was also a gift from the Russian Tsar.

Santa Sabina all'Aventino is a paleo-Christian church and minor basilica on the Aventine, dedicated to Saint Sabina, a legendary second-century martyr reportedly killed in Umbria in the year 114. She was reportedly denounced by one of her own slaves named Serapia, and her relics were eventually brought home to Rome and placed in the new basilica in the fifth century on the site of what was previously her house. The revised account in the Roman martyrology, however, states that the story is actually conflated with that of a completely different person and St. Sabina was simply the original founder of the church, as the original dedication was to SS Sabina and Serapia, which seems odd if the latter figure was the person who reportedly denounced her.
The church is attached to the General Curia of the Dominican order. It was constructed in the fifth century, possibly in 425 by an Illyrian priest named Peter on the original site of the Titulus Sabinae, one of the first parish (house-) churches of Rome, often originally previously the sites of private residences where Christian congregations met. Curiously, the original foundation epigraph in mosaic on the façade above the entrance door still survives. The Aventine was an affluent area home to numerous temples, including the Temple of Juno, and the homes of patrician families. It is said that Sabina was a wealthy Christian woman who owned a house in one of the more exclusive areas of the neighborhood, as the property was located on the crest of the hill, overlooking the river with magnificent views of the surrounding hills. The church was restored first in the eighth century, and again in 1216 when the church was given to Dominican friars by Pope Honorius III. St. Dominic even lived there in the adjacent friary shortly before his death in 1221; other famous residents included Thomas Aquinas, Pope St. Pius V and St. Hyacinth. In 1586 the interior of the church was remodeled extensively, when the schola cantorum, ambones and iconostasis were demolished, and the mosaic in the apse was apparently removed as well as it was in a very poor state of preservation. Some of this work was reversed in the 20th century in two phases, which occurred from 1914-1919 and from 1936-1938 with many of the post-medieval alterations and additions removed to restore it to its (possible) original state. Its large windows which were previously walled up have been restored, and now admit much more lighting, so its interior is somewhat different than many other early churches; in the medieval period many of the windows were reportedly filled in because of the belief that less light provided better conditions for prayer and meditation, but in reality it was probably due to concerns over the structural integrity of these ancient buildings.
Perhaps its most valuable feature is the entrance door, which dates to an incredible mid-fifth century. It is made of cypress wood and features 18 of the original 28 panels, which feature scenes from the lives of illustrious figures. Most significantly, the crucifixion scene in the top left-hand corner may be the earliest preserved representation of Christ crucified between two thieves in Western art, but interestingly, the cross of Christ is not readily visible. The panels are probably the work of two collaborating artists. The present arrangement is probably not the original one, but the result of a restoration dating to 1836.
DEDICATED TO SOLANGE'S "A Seat at the Table", this was my final photography class project that I also made into a film capstone. I've had the idea of wanting to create a short film to Solange's music for awhile and took the opportunity and challenge of this self-portrait series.

Inspired by colorful and seasonal landscapes, this performance art intertwines through different worlds outside and also in. Utilizing different mediums of costuming/styling, self-portraiture, locations considered as personal “happy places”, adding in a talent that has introduced and influenced me tremendously into the art world: dance. The dancer is in different fabrics and hues that either compliment or contradict the setting around her in where she can isolate herself from the world while taking up the space wandering on her own. Sometimes the dancer is seen as still embracing the landscape before her or is reaching for something to grab or hold onto. However, the dancer is also letting go in order to fly and be free. What they are hoping to reach is up for others to decide. As she moves with power and grace, she kinetically manifests the wonders surrounding her whether they are in front of, behind, above, or below her.

Dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god, it was built during the reigns of six Ptolemies.
It was begun in 237 BC by Ptolemy III Euergetes I and was finished in 57 BC.
This is not only the best preserved ancient temple in Egypt, but the second largest after Karnak. It was believed that the temple was built on the site of the great battle between Horus and Seth.

The church of St. Anton is located near the Old Court of the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
It is dedicated to the Feast of the Annunciation and to Saint Anthony the Great.
St. Anthony is patron of children and protects them from diseases, he is also protector of person who have debts, problems with money and poor people.
It is considered to be the oldest building in Bucharest.
For sure it is the only one of four churches that initially existed within Curtea Veche, the court of the Princes of Wallachia.
Many princes of the 16th through 18th centuries prayed there or were anointed to their office.
The date of construction is not entirely clear: the 1715 pisanie placed above the entrance door by Ștefan Cantacuzino, replacing one from the 16th century, mentions Mircea Ciobanul (the Shepherd) as the builder, with his son Pătrașcu the Good responsible for ornamentation and painting.
The oldest document mentioning the building is from 1563.
The donor portrait depicts Mircea the Shepherd, his wife Doamna Chiajna, their son Mircea and Mircea the Elder, who founded a church there during his much earlier reign.
The church and court were burned a number of times by the Ottomans.
A bell tower was built in the 1670s under Grigore I Ghica and George Ducas; it burned following a lightning strike in 1691 and was rebuilt by Constantin Brâncoveanu, who added a clock.
Ștefan Cantacuzino replaced the entrance portal with a wider one, still extant; tore down the wall separating nave from narthex, replacing it with three arches on stone columns; painted the interior; and redesigned the facades, coating them in carefully worked white mortar designed to imitate building blocks.
A 1758 document indicates that Constantine Mavrocordatos enlarged the building by adding two chapels to the north and south of the narthex, up to the apse windows; these appear on a 1799 plan.
There were thus three altars, with access through holes in the wall; the main altar was also enlarged.
In 1798, upon orders from Constantine Hangerli, the surrounding land and buildings were sold at auction, with the funds going to the New Court.
The old church entered a period of decline, with merchant houses built from the ruins of the court cropping up.
The church is "the oldest religious building maintained in its original aspect in Bucharest".
Called also "Old Royal Court", it was the church were the rulers were worshiped before starting their reign in Wallachia.
The voivodal palace, as it can be seen, is situated just in front of the entrance of the church.
It is the only place in Romania where every Tuesday people come in pilgrimage from 06:30 to 20:00.
The reason of this continuesly pilgrimage has radices in an event that took place in 1847 - the Great Fire.
In March 1847 took place a huge fire in the city and destroyed a big part of the city center.
Near to the church that was a prison and inside the prison was a little church erected for the prisoners.
The fire destroyed the prison and the church, but a miracle made that the only object that didn’t burn was the silver icon of Saint Anthony which was transferred in the actual church.
Actually, now the icon seats next to the chuch, in a tiny chapel where pilgrims wait for minutes to pray in front of the icon.
The old Patron of the Church was the Annunciation.
In the sixties of the sixteenth century there was a court of chieftains gathered.
The church was finished in several decades.
It has suffered in 1611 when it was destroyed by fire.
Of its recovery has taken care Matei Basarab.
Then it was again destroyed by the invading Turks, but was again restored.
In 1660 the church was restored by Grigore Ghica and in 1673 it was reconstructed by Gheorghe Duca.
The beautiful tower of St. Anton’s Church was erected in the reign of Grigore Ghica.
In the nineteenth century, the church was severely damaged by earthquake and fire.
In the early twentieth century a number of restorations of the church took place which brought the church nearer to its initial form; the trichonch plan of the church with: pronaos, nave with side apses, the altar apsis.
The church has four arched niches in the walls.
Regarding the painting, the church has frescoes in the neoclassical style, painted in 1852.
The frescoes of the tower are much more recent, they were made in 1935.
For dedicated runners, heel pain that will not go away is frustrating and takes the joy out of running. Ignoring the pain may work for a while, but eventually, you will need to seek treatment if you are ever going to enjoy running again.
In the past, treatment for plantar fasciitis involved mostly stretching of the calf muscles and Achilles tendon, along with orthotic inserts. However, new research has revealed that a load bearing approach that strengthens all of the structures surrounding the plantar fascia may accelerate healing and prevent recurring episodes of plantar fasciopathy.
