Icy sunset over the Penobscot River at Hampden, Maine as storm clouds move in.

This is the plan for the December setup. Kind of post Covid 2nd setup if you will.

December sunsets can be really lovely although I always have a problem with the short days and long nights at this time of year. This capture was taken near Monrepos, Ludwigsburg, Germany. In spite of the warm sunset colours it was bone-chilling cold and I was on the way back to my car to warm up again.

This is Driver Joe beside his train at Monaghan Railway Station. This train was an Irish Railway Records Society Special Train, and you can see members of the Society fanning out over the tracks in the background.

According to MB89763733: "The railway to Monaghan closed 31st December that year and this was the last passenger train to use it. It officially closed to passengers 13.10.1957 but periodic specials such as GAA trains continued to operate."

Note the Customs and Excise sign behind Joe - Monaghan was Border country.

How can one not fall in love with some December delights. The sea still has a few swells rolling in, reminders of her power.

The tennis nets near the high school are still up in December (the warmest on record). Too wet for a match, though.

Finally good weather for December.

It has been cloudy for most of November. Glad to have a epic sky to start December.

After a long night of very hard rain and hail this was my view!! It's still raining but oh what a promise :D This is our first big storm of the season and hope it won't be our last!!!

My brother sent me a picture of an amazing winter wonderland at his house - so it's been a very special late December day here in Cali!!!

It's that time again... gosh the years seem to fly by as you get older... another year is almost over... time to cut down trees so they can be dressed before they officially die... I do love Christmas though... sometimes I just wonder about some of the not so earth friendly traditions that we keep... ya know what I mean??? ;)

Decided on no stove. I drank a can of coffee and had a snack bar when we got up. We packed up and road to a little restaurant, the Manchester Grill, for breakfast on Sunday.

A huge thank you to all of you who supported my 365 project with your wonderful encouraging and supportive comments, I literally would have not completed the project without that help. This year I will be completing project 100 with my good friend Lisa - a themed collection of my best 100 photos through the year with my theme being pictures straight from the camera - a big challenge for me.

December was a very mixed month for taking photos; some days made tricky with bad weather, lack of time and poor light – other days spoilt for choice. Here are a few that did not quite make my picture of the day;

Trebah Gardens (4); Morrab Library, Penzance; Wiggins in the Helford River; Autumn Leaves in Boscawen Park; Penzance Promenade; 20% off day at White Stuff; St Michael’s Mount; Truro Cathedral; Wiggins at St Uny; West Cornwall Cigar Company sign, Chapel Street, Penzance; Freya and Odin on the Mill Pond.

My last collage picture seems like a perfect one with which to end the year. There are some little shelters dotted along Cliff Road in Falmouth, with park benches looking out to sea over Falmouth Bay. Jane noticed the inscription on this one as we walked past.

Perhaps not perfect, but still quite nice to have one around in the middle of December!

Another cold (-10 °C) winter morning during the polar night, when the sun does not rise above the horizon at all. Ounasjoki, Enontekiö, Lapland, Finland, 28.12.2016.

This is inspired by old childhood memories on my Grandfather Bruce's Farm in Upstate New York.

Some really intriguing cloud formations are replacing the usual dull gray skies of December here.
