From mid-May to mid-August the sun only sets for only a few hours per day, and it is effectively light for the whole 24-hour period. This phenomenon is known as the "midnight sun" and it creates a sort of lingering twilight in the nighttime hours. In contrast, there are around 4-5 hours of effective daylight during mid-winter. But Iceland's inexpensive geothermal energy means that streets and buildings are well-lit during winter darkness. On saturday December 12th the sun was low at the sky in the capital Reykjavík, Iceland during the day, and it was like a cut out of a postcard of a tropical sunny beach.
Our penultimate December Visitors Festive Photograph features Xelabus of Eastleigh Enviro 200 Dart 431 YY66PFU in Southampton City Centre on Saturday 19 December 2020. Bathed in bright winter sunshine, this scene does not look particularly festive at first glance until you see who is driving.
It isn't often that Santa has to wear sunglasses......

I am not exactly happy with the way this artwork turned out. I feel this is not my best work as I felt the subject this month was a bit of challenge for me. But I am glad that I at least tried it rather than just giving up.

The Elves and I got a little Tangled up this weekend and didn't realize it was already Monday! I guess it's good when that happens but the busy week ahead has me a little Frazzled!
Hope you guys have a great day!
When I lived in Istanbul during the nineties, we once made a visit to Haghia Sophia between Christmas and New Year, that's now almost exactly twenty years ago.
The two of us, and a Dutch couple, were the only people in the place.
Some change.

This is my entry into the Art Bead Scene December Monthly Challenge depicting the "Choir of Saint-Bavokerk, Haarlem" 1635 by Pieter Jansz Saenredam. I've started the last two challenges but didn't get them finished, so I was determined to finish this one. I love the sense of space and the feeling of light I get when looking at this painting, so I wanted to keep it simple and try to reflect that somehow. The long reddish brown leather symbolises the height of the church as well as the two hanging lanterns leading to the floor. I chose to go with warm browns instead of greys as the alternative suggested by Brandi Hussey in her colour palette post. I tend to pick out an element of the image and focus on it, so in this case it was the floor. The bead/pendant I made out of polymer clay. First I made the 10mm square tiles by colouring Fimo Professional in Porcelain with hazelnut Adirondack alcohol ink in varying degrees. Once baked I assembled the tiles onto a thin sheet (making two sides) which I then placed either side of a central layer with a channel cut out for the leather. I baked again and then covered with black acrylic paint to add depth in between the tiles. Once dry I sanded off the excess. Finally I applied gold acrylic paint and wiped off the excess. Thanks for looking and reading.

Artistic display of meat products from Irish Co-operative Meat Ltd., Waterford to tempt the palate in the run up to Christmas 1930. So we have sausages, black and white pudding (or maybe brawn?), and lard. The packaging on the lard proudly declares that it is "guaranteed perfectly pure" and "untouched by human hand". It cost 1/6 it weighed in at 1 lb (one pound). Well done [https://www.flickr.com/photos/188307523@N06]
(Virtual) 1lb. of sausages to anyone who can tell me the address for the meat factory in the 1930s, so I can add it to our Flickr map!

From the December issue of Better Homes and Gardens Country Home, shows an antique block puzzle, a children's toy from the late 1800s. This one with 48 blocks is larger than most. Manufactures cut lithographed prints created especially for children into squares and glued them to wooden blocks. Each block had six sides so each puzzle had six solutions. This sounds like a simple toy, but when scrambled, it was quite challenging for young children to solve the puzzles and could keep them busy for hours.
