Celebrating a decade of challenging chefs to get creative with California Dates, The Perfect Date Chef Challenge showcases nine previous top winners all competing in three culinary categories to determine who prepares the best Date dish. Similar to cooking shows Iron Chef and Top Chef, the creations are prepared in front of a live audience and competitors race against the clock to get their dishes completed in time. About 400 people attended and tasted this year’s date dishes prepared by the chefs.
Lampasas, TX (Lampasas County)
**Lampasas County Courthouse** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 71000944, date listed 19710621
Bounded by S. Live Oak, E. 4th, S. Pecan, and E. 3rd Sts.
Lampasas County, named for the Lampasas River, encompasses 858 square miles and was created from parts of Travis and Bell counties February 1, 1856, and organized March 10 with Burleson, thereafter known as Lampasas, as the county seat. The city of Lampasas was incorporated in 1874.
By 1882, the necessity for a substantial courthouse had been fully realized, and County Commissioners A.J. Northington, Matthew Roach, N.F. Meeks, and H. Wallace hired W. C. Dodson as architect and contractor. Dodson chose native limestone as his building material, and excavation began in 1882. Much of the work was done by convicts who were in Lavaca County, helping to build the Santa Fe tracks west. (1)

**Christ Episcopal Church and Cemetery** - National Register of Historic Places Ref # 77000666, date listed 1977-05-02
LA 1 between Courthouse St. and LA 1008
Christ Episcopal Church is situated on the west bank of Bayou Lafourche on a long, narrow lot located in the sugar cane producing community of Napoleonville, Louisiana. The land donated by Dr. E. E. Kittredge for the church is on the corner of what used to be Elm Hall Plantation. The beautifully proportioned building is in almost perfect scale with the narrow lot, its tall neighboring trees and the small town of Napoleonville.
Designed by Architect Frank Wills of New York City in the Gothic Revival style similar to English village churches from the medieval period, the church was built in 1853 by local carpenters at a cost of $9,500 which was raised locally. (1)

Seen at the Magellanic penguin colony at Seno Otway, southern Patagonia.
The Magellanic Penguin, Spheniscus magellanicus, is a South American penguin, breeding in coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands, with some migrating to Brazil where they are occasionally seen as far north as Rio de Janeiro. It is the most numerous of the Spheniscus penguins. They are native to the Strait of Magellan in the cool climate of southern Chile, hence the name's origin.
