So Alisa and I were long overdue for a date night! We decided to goto the Bayshore Lounge for a nice dinner and then walked across to English Bay where we watched the sun set. Afterwards we hit up the Fair at Lansdowne Mall, got some mini donuts, and kicked it back at home to watch a movie =)

We went out to Bastille for dinner tonight. The food was tasty as usual, but the company was absolutely wonderful. :)
I had lunch at a great restaurant by the water yesterday....and my date just so happened to be this cute little seagull.

I have a tendency to procrastinate severely. Thankfully, my husband is well aware of this and has the brilliance to inform me on his way out the door: "Last pair of socks"
That horrible sentence heralds Laundry Day. I tend to have more than enough clothes to go weeks without doing laundry. This is largely because I don't leave the house much and because...well, I'm a girl. And girls typically like variety. My husband wears a uniform. Daily. And a key proponent to that uniform is the long hideous green-brown blend socks.
Most every Army wife is versed in the Trial of the Socks. Not only do you have to pick them up random corners of the bedroom, bathroom, and, on occasion, living room, but no matter what you do, they NEVER match. EVER. One sock may have a greenish tone. Another will look completely brown. And the socks were the same color when you put them in the washer.
Ugh.
I give up. All socks and Army colored clothing now yet their own pile in the great laundry sort. As for each sock finding its match?
I subscribe to something akin to speed dating. Look good? Compatible? Clean? It's a match!

We went to Nina's, a cozy little coffee shop to listen to the music of a high school friend, Dan Rumsey. The music was very good as was the coffee shop. We had a couple types of tea and a giant chocolate chip cookie under a scoop of salted caramel ice cream.
The cool and comfortable temperatures inside Lenox Square Mall proved to be very advantageous for competitive eater “Humble” Bob Shoudt on Sunday as he put away 41 Krystals and 5 Big Angus Burgers for a total of 66 Krystal Burger Points to take first place.
Shoudt is the first headline eater in the Krystal Square Off VI qualifying tour thus far to start with the Famous Krystal Burger and end with the Big Angus Burger. A risky strategy, but one that clearly paid off as he came in at only one point less than 2nd-ranked eater in the world Patrick Bertoletti’s 67 Krystal Burger count done at the Chattanooga Qualifier. It’s no doubt that Shoudt is in it to win this year’s Krystal Square Off VI World Hamburger Eating Championship.
The win in Atlanta guarantees Shoudt a seat at the final table in downtown Chattanooga on Sept. 27 next to fellow competitive eaters Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi and the KSO VI Qualifying winners to date: Patrick Bertoletti, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, Hall “Hoover” Hunt and Eric “Badlands” Booker.
Date Oatmeal Cookies
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
3.5 cups oatmeal
3 cups flour (may need to add more to roll out)
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash salt
Roll-out to about 1/5 of an inch between layers of waxed paper - Test to see if waxed paper pulls away from cookie dough (if not add more flour)
Cut into 2 inch rounds and bake for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees
The filling:
1 Cup brown sugar
1 pound chopped dates
3 tablespoons rum
1/2 cup water
Stir while cooking, cook until the mixture losses any large lumps. You may need to add more water.
