You really can't be outside in Southern California and not look up and see palm trees. All varieties, all sizes, they're on every street and in every park. I've never thought of them as real trees, more a separate thing all of their own.

I went to the Richmond Marina Bay last week in the hopes of seeing the Western Grebes do their courtship dance...they weren't quite in the mood yet but there seemed to be some 'dating' going on!

die Schnauze stiebt durch Blätterwerk
aus nassem Laube dampfen Eicheln
das Licht ist violett wie Wein
Löwenzahn und dort noch einer
ein Dohlenschwarm im Dohlenlärm
ein Sonnenstrahl für mich alleine
so schwer und süß wie bald Likör
milde Tage ess ich gern
sind so melancholisch
milde Tage leicht im Nebel
milde Tage federleicht
milde Tage leise Lieder
gedämpfte Schritte in der Flur
Tropf von Sonne Lied der Dohlen
hinter mir die Zeitung zu
der Hund zieht vorwärts an der Leine
die Schnauze sucht das Auge sucht
das Frauchen ja ja Frauchen schaut
vom Mais noch Stoppeln Maulwurfhaufen

a dog pulls forward on the leash
the snout pushes through the leaves
acorns steam out of wet foliage
the light is purple like wine
dandelions and another one there
a flock of jackdaws in the noise of jackdaws
a ray of sunshine for me alone
as heavy and sweet as soon to be liqueur
I like to eat mild days
are so melancholy
mild days light in the mist
mild days light as a feather
mild days quiet songs
muffled footsteps in the meadow
drip of sun song of jackdaws
behind me the newspaper closed
the dog pulls forward on the leash
the snout searches the eye searches
the mistress yes yes mistress looks
from the corn still stubble molehills
flight of harriers falcons doves
scent of sweet apples cider
now forebodingly roams the land
mild days on the slopes
mild days morning dew
in mild days' magic clutches
you catch me stealing pears

Nightlight has been selected for inclusion as part of the Cologne OFF One Minute Film Festival and (as one of three of my films selected) for an upcoming season on Outcasting.
