Church dating back to 1750, originally from the village of Bezded, Salaj County, here in the ASTRA National Museum Complex since 1990, Sibiu, Romania
Mostly characteristic to Salaj and Maramures region of Romania, the wooden churches of the region that still stand were built starting from the 17th century all the way to 19th century. Some were erected on the place of older churches. They were a response to the prohibition against the erection of stone Orthodox churches by the Catholic Austro-Hungarian authorities. The churches are made of thick logs, some are quite small and dark inside but several of them have impressive measures. They are painted with rather "naïve" Biblical scenes, mostly by local painters. The most characteristic features are the tall tower above the entrance and the massive roof that seems to dwarf the main body of the church. (Wikipedia)

Dating back 700 years, this 'matsuri' festival celebrates the legend of the effigies of two dragons that were built to pray for rain following a terrible drought. The gods answered the peoples' prayers, but forgot to turn off the taps and it rained non-stop for two years. The locals then performed a lion dance to call on the gods to stop the rain, which they promptly did.
The festival involves two local men being placed in straw tubes to imitate the dragons and are then dragged through the streets blowing conches while locals pour water over them to symbolise the rains. They are dragged to the local temple, where a lion dance is then performed to celebrate the end of the rains.
Traditionally held on July 14th to mark the end of the rainy season, this matsuri is totally unique in that it is the only one of its kind to pray for rains to stop (of course, there are many harvest-related festivals to pray for plentiful rain).

I must admit to a certain prejudice towards freight trains which caused me to tend to ignore Amtrak
equipment because ,..well it wasn't a freight train...lol
However shots I could have cared less about 35 years ago are brought into new light with the passage of time.

Winter Saloon Car No.21, dating from 1899, approaches Summit Curve having come across the face of the hills in the distance. One of the backbones of the MER Fleet on account of it's 40 seat capacity it's run, on average, over 10,000 miles a year. It's also wearing the short lived 'Nationalised' green livery of the late 1950s.

These silos near the waterfront of San Francisco Bay are no longer used for storing cement. Previously owned by Santa Cruz Portland Cement Company, they received cement from near Santa Cruz and shipped it out from Alameda via train on the Southern Pacific Railroad, or by truck or ship. Now owned by a construction company, the property is underutilized due to an environmental cleanup issue involving an underground tank, per an online article. The cement company ceased operations in this location in 1966.
