Located just outside of Silly Goose Kids on Danforth, this hopscotch board is a little different than the traditional ones. I love that the business has added this touch outside of their store. It humanizes the neighbourhood, and provides a nice welcome to children of all ages. I'm surprised that it has 13 squares, but only because of the widespread avoidance of the number 13.

From the looks of their tumblr account (sillygoosekids.tumblr.com/), SGK is a neighbourhood store focused on creative, intriguing toys for children. They carry books, toys, crafts and must-haves for new parents. They appear to have been around for over a decade now, and garner rave reviews on their Yelp page - for selection, staff, and experience. I love it when small businesses grow and become integral parts of the neighbourhood, and it appears that this is the case with Silly Goose Kids.

Finished the Danforth Pullover last week.

When we were researching for inspiration on the project I came across someone who in a past class had done a half sphere with Dixie cups and I really liked the concept behind it. I wanted to use some different materials so I thought of using snow cone cups. I really liked how they were in the cone shape, which would add to the depth of the piece.

Constructing my small model shockingly came very easily. I just used a stapler to hold the cups together. I really liked the idea of keeping the open part of the sphere with the ends of the cones facing in towards the center. This I feel added depth to each sphere. When Ping and I talked about my small model he suggested that it would be cool if I made two more spheres and stacked them on top of each other and lit them up to create a lamp. The idea sounded really, really cool but the actual process of putting it together was the hard part. Based off the way that I constructed it first, wiring it up to create the lamp would have been impossible. So I decided to nix the idea of the lamp. Overall I’m very pleased with my design. I think it is visually appealing with the 3 different spheres facing different directions. I just wish that the photo could show what it looks like when it is hanging.
