With dynamic brakes howling, Freeport-McMoRan's copper train glides down the steep grade between Morenci and the AZER interchange in Clifton. Out of view to my left, the AZER crew was rolling into the interchange yard at the same time. This place is such a perfect time capsule of classic industrial railroading that is absolutely worth a visit.
The engineer of South Shore Line train 9 cautiously guides his charge down 11th Street in Michigan City, Indiana. It won't be very long until he no longer needs to worry about street traffic and stoplights, as the track will be relocated off the street, ending over a century of interurban railway tradition.
Today one of the summit craters of Etna, the Voragine, is producing a very strong degassation. This view is from the terrace of my home in Paternó.
---
"The Voragine is the only one of Etna's four summit craters, which has not erupted in the past decade - it was last seen in Strombolian activity in early October 1999, a few weeks after it had produced one of the most powerful explosive paroxysms on record at Etna in the past more than 100 years.
This morning, on 27 February 2013, the Bocca Nuova started erupting again, and this new episode was very similar to a series of miniature paroxysms from the Bocca Nuova we've seen earlier this year, from mid-January until early February - before the New Southeast Crater celebrated its triumphant return on the scene." Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee ...

Just a picture I took with my phone. But now that I am uploading it, I am convinced I took a picture of The Upside Down from Stranger Things...scary...

From the summit of Carn an Tuirc we have this splended view down to Glenshee and the Ski centre, with the Caringorm mountains back-dropping the whole scene (I've picked out three other Munro's that I know). I've climbed from a starting point lower than the ski centre to give some idea of the effort involved. I would say breath taking, but I had little breath left by this time!!
This bike trip takes me to the summits of two Munro's, Carn an Tuirc & Cairn of Claise. Carn an Tuirc is at a height of 1018 meters (3339 feet), while Cairn of Claise is sightly higher at 1062 meters (3484 feet). It took me four hours to drag myself (and my bike) up there, but because of the bike, it took less than an hour to get back to the car. Total distance covered was 26.5 kilometers (16.5 miles) and starting at 370 meters, I had an altitude gain of over 700 meters (2296+ feet) - that was a big one!!

A local artist quietly informed my traveling companion and I that the best view of the city was from this bridge. We tested his theory at night, and ultimately agreed.

Wahey! Managed to recover my fluffed shots so I get the classic image to add to my collection after all. Took a fair bit of cloning and cleaning but got there in the end. Pity about the peeps but hey, scale.
I Google'd this and not surprisingly found hundreds of near identical images. Hey-ho. Couldn't not do it though, could I?
So.. lots of pictures taken with the X-E1, stitched in Microsoft ICE and then cleaned and tweaked in a bunch of other software. Threw in a shade of cross processing for that edgy, ain't I a cool dude look. Does it suit me?
Thanks for visiting and please come again soon.. no really..
