Coraline likes to explore the secret water well. She drops a stone down the well to hear it hit the bottom. She wonders how deep it is.

Well its the summer holidays so trying to juggle a gazillion things at the minute. My apologies as it has meant I have had little time for Flickr and commenting. I did manage to sneak out for a few hours at the weekend to photography this amazing staircase. I have three weeks off in August so should have a bit more time then to get round to you all.
Hope you are having a great week! :-)

A muddy youngish elephant flaps its huge ears at the camera during a recent trip to Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. The mud bath and the ear flapping helps to cool the huge animal down in the hot sun.
After the sun went down, light rays lit up the sky. Lots of dust in the air in this windy area so those rays were very prominent.

This young Great Blue Heron had found a 'motherload' of tadpoles, catching a dozen in about 20 minutes.
This is Stane street the road to Halnaker windmill, the view is down towards the entrance and where the light is, I took advantage of this log that someone had left there for my foreground. I had intended going back here this week but looks like the weeks weather forecast is going somewhat downhill. We have made a plan to go back next week. Jane had a dental appointment up country from where we live this morning so we made a morning of it in the vicinity with the camera in some woods as well. With the weather going off tomorrow and a free afternoon I think I`ll head to the beach for a winter sunset beside the pier.

This Blue Jay was getting his fill of peanuts, nearly choked on this one trying to get it down far enough to fit another one I guess.
I had known that Moose were salt starved in winter and would come to drink from salt laden roadside ditch water in spring, but it never occurred to me that they would also come for salty snow at the roadside in winter.
As a result, we were pleasantly surprised to spot two mama moose eating snow along the road - each with a calf. We were careful to keep our distance but clearly they were aware of us. It's such a dangerous place for them to be with highway traffic speeding by. Every year, at least a couple of dozen moose are killed by collisions in Algonquin Park alone - and as many cars severely damaged too. When you see the road signs warning of wildlife, please slow down! They are difficult to spot in the early morning light but for me, I'm like a kid in a candy store when we do manage to see wildlife.

Joe Jackson - Down To London
Covid lock-down series, from my archives: Wupatki National Monument-AZ.
The Wupatki ballcourt is 78 feet wide, 102 feet long, and had 6-foot-high walls.

Flickr is full of such images, each trying to capture the repeating sequence of curling stairs, some more effective, some less. I suspect this falls in the latter category, but there is, nevertheless, something appealing in the balance of the frame that arrests the eye a little.

If you like my photographs, please consider buying a print at my website, captures.life. I haven't yet finished building the site and putting in all of the terms and conditions and policies, but the bits that involve buying a print, having it delivered, and contacting me if anything isn't working or goes wrong are functioning just fine...
Not being great with heights, on a recent trip to Frankfurt, the office I have been working in offered the chance to walk around the Sky bar - too good an opportunity not to take my camera... opened a window and looked down - my knees they were a knocking!
Union Pacific's Denver - Salt Lake City OCS train glides down the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western, 10 miles west (by rail) of Soldier Summit. The location is Gilluly, Utah, where the track descends the Wasatch Mountains on a 2% grade, through an eight degree curve over Soldier Creek. This has always been a favorite spot of mine for watching trains wind through the reverse curves. Even UP looks pretty good here, although the Rio Grande Zephyr looked far better. April 25, 2024
“Bend down low, let me tell you what I know now
Bend down low, let me tell you what I know
Oh! Fisherman row to reap what you sow now
Oh, tell you all I know (Oo-oh!)
You have got to let me go now (Oo-oh!)
And all you have got to do
(Bend down low) Oh yeah! Let me tell you what I know
Bend down low, let me tell you what I know, Oh yeah”
