Q506 in the hands of a pair of CSX motors has reached the north end of the directional running coming out of the Cincinnati Terminal. Tucked behind the two CSX units is a former Detroit Edison U30C dead in tow.
Shameless pandering here, but if you have a moment, check out the picture my daughter posted today. I just love it! (Besides, this is my grand-cat!)
Used the Sony FE 85mm F1.8 on the Zf via the Viltrox EZ adapter. works fine. 😊

These Black Oystercatchers are going to have to practice their synchronization skills, they weren't going to be winning any gold medals at the olympics.

Everyone loves a good directional sign post...this one is inside the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and actually directs visitors to exhibits throughout the zoo. My favorite was Savannah Manor, where you'll find the large cats like the lion and tiger!
Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Mosaic in progress - playing around with glass pebbles on sculpted forms - but made this image black and white as I like the directional flow and subtle shading created by the pebbles
''We must always take from nature what we paint and always choose the most beautiful things.'' - Leon Battista Alberti.
The same could be said of photography - which is painting with light. Each of the elements in this image is 'taken from nature'
Photographed 10 March 2015 in low light conditions using a two-second exposure and natural strongly directional light from a small window.

I had been waiting for several hours at this point, enjoying the breeze of the harbor and watching the various seaplanes and boats motoring in and out of the piers. I'd made the trip to Parry Sound in order to capture this shot of a train crossing the historic Canadian Pacific bridge over the town on the Mactier Subdivision. Here, a northbound CN hotshot intermodal train is seen barreling across with the vessel used for the Island Queen Cruise moored up in the foreground. There tends to not be a great deal of variety in terms of locomotive power up here, so the scenery definitely helps make up for it.

Okay, well I’m a week early, so sue me! I was in the mood and the daffodils might not last until next week. Concentrated on getting moody directional and diffuse lighting. Black background for some punchy contrast plus shiny black metal always looks great against a black background!
Having stopped at Castle Bromwich Junction for water, 45231 Sherwood Forester gets going again with 1Z59 Holyhead to Stratford-upon-Avon, The William Shakespeare.

Nearly sunset, Ventura, California. Not so many people out after 7 p.m. on an Wednesday evening in early June. We brought our masks just in case....

I say we should keep walking until we get to the field!

This is a succulent plant that's part of our drought tolerant landscaping. I like the colors and shapes of these interesting plants, and decided to document one of them this morning.
Lighting stuff: Lit from about 4 o'clock at camera right using a YN560-III in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box that was just out of the frame on the right. I kept the soft box as close as I could to the plant, because I wanted soft lighting. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash, and the equipment that I use. www.flickr.com/photos/9422

SUNRISE at Sea ~ very windy photo-shoot from the top-deck
Just north-west of the 'Cayman Islands' in the Caribbean Sea
*[Jimmy Buffett; "Keep it between the directional-beacons!"]
*{About The Shot: I am compelled to tell the story of this early morning sunrise-shoot as it was like nothing else I've ever experienced as a seasoned cruiser. This was shot in 'sustained' 50mph winds with gusts up to 60-70mph! Shot through a slit in the glass of the viewing platform 12 decks up, the sunrise was directly in front of the bow. Myself and 2 others were the only photographers crazy enough to attempt this, and we could barely stand! We were laughing...but we got our shots. If the half-wall and glass were not there we would not have been able to stand-up. We had to anchor our cameras against the iron supports just to hold it steady. A tri-pod...forget it! I get up for every sunrise and try not to miss these opportunities (even though it was 7AM and I got to bed at 2:30AM!) LOL With the sun slightly off the port bow it tells me we are now steaming SE heading toward Grand Cayman, not yet visible on the horizon. - Would I do it again? You betcha!! Thanks for looking.]

CSX L810 heads directionally east (timetable north on CSX now) down the former Seaboard Airline Atlanta-Birmingham “Silver Comet” main shortly after departing Cedartown. Just about all of the former Silver Comet main in Georgia, at least west of Atlanta, was ripped up in the 1980s by Seaboard System for a multitude of reasons, one of which just being that they always preferred the ACL routes over the Seaboard. The ICC did rule that the portion between Cedartown & Rockmart must remain due to one customer in Cedartown who used products that by D.O.T rules can only be shipped by rail & they must provide them the service. Because of that, this once former passenger main continues to see use at least twice a week whenever they bring cars for GEO. At least they did because GEO was bought by a new owner in March or April of 2024 & the regular engineer told me that they were gonna shut down for an undisclosed amount of time in May. Hopefully, they’re open again, but I would have to check. 10-10-23
