I know your supposed to save the best for last, but this is one of my favorite eagle pictures yet! Perfect focus, great pose, wonderful light! When the shutter clicks and the images come out good, all that standing around in the cold, freezing your butt off is suddenly worth it!!

There are different theories about why the dips were carved into this stone but whatever the reason, these days it's mostly used for photography.
Day 1 of a first 365 (366) group for me - thank you for the invitation :-) The Big Dip is an annual New Year fundraising event, held (whatever the weather) to support the 1st Birdham & Witterings Scout Group. A little bit of craziness on the south coast.
Ah, Skinny Dip falls. By the time we got here it had warmed up enough that I could take my gloves off on the hike in. Half way there I took off my knit hat (what we in the southern US call a toboggan. Yankees call that a sled.
I had not planned for this trip to be a waterfall trip. But, as we approached the pull out for the falls I had to go and see if there were any images lurking. Lo! I found one. Again, this was the first cool day of the fall for us. It was only 40F in Spartanburg when we headed out. I'm not sure how cold it was up on the Blue Ridge Parkway at dawn. I could still see my breath here however.
All that is leading up to my whining about how cold the water was. Shin deep for this image, next to a 8 feet drop off behind me if I fell. Yeah, I do stupid things sometimes. Just don't fall, eh?
We moved up the falls taking images and at the very end, I have two more awesome shots, if I do say so myself. But after the last one I realized that I really was becoming hyporthermic.
I got out, did a bunch of deep squats and hopped up and down a bit. But, it was worth it I think. I may redo this at some point however, as I don't really like the top of the image. Looks cluttered and busy. I may crop this one. But, it is that standing down in the pool that I was after. The pool and stone were my subjects, the fall in the background was just filler.
It's just a simple distant reflection shot of female Red-Winged Blackbird touching her wings to the water. Sort of a nice capture...nothing Pulitzer about it.
Had a great day out yesterday watching these brave souls doing there bit for charity.well done to them all.
Many walled gardens have a pool in the middle for gardeners to dip their watering cans to keep plants watered and growing
Kecil is a master at using a stick to enjoy the treats left for him by the keepers in the various enrichment dispensers. His favorite is scraping peanut butter off the wall with a loooong stick that reaches several feet up off the exhibit floor.
Kecil is now 3 1/2 yrs old and lives with his foster family at Brookfield Zoo. Foster mom, Sophia, big foster sister Kekasih (8) and baby foster sister, Heidi (8 mos).
