L'abbaye de Sixt est une abbaye de chanoines réguliers de la congrégation d'Abondance située à Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, Haute-Savoie. Fondée sur le règlement de St Augustin avant 1144 (premier abbé Ponce de Faucigny), elle est fermée en 1792 à la suite de l'invasion française de la Savoie. Seule une partie des bâtiments de l'ancienne subsiste aujourd’hui- l'église et son grenier, l'ancien bâtiment abbatial et le presbytère. L'abbaye a contribué à assurer dès le Moyen-Âge une activité de pastoralisme dans un secteur de haute-montagne.

Sixt Abbey is an abbey of canons regular of the Congregation of Abondance in Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval , Haute-Savoie] . Founded before 1144 , it was closed in 1792 following the French invasion of Savoy. Only part of the old buildings remain today; the church and its attic, the old abbey building and the presbytery. Since the Middle Ages, the abbey has contributed to ensuring pastoralism in a high mountain area.

Crespi d'Adda è un villaggio operaio e frazione che si trova nel comune di Capriate San Gervasio, in provincia di Bergamo.

Dal 1995 è stato inserito tra i Patrimoni dell'Unesco.

Il villaggio venne costruito durante l'ultimo quarto del XIX secolo dalla famiglia Crespi, che scelse quest'area, vicina al fiume Adda, per costruire un cotonificio.

La fondazione si fa risalire al 1878, anno in cui l’industriale Cristoforo Benigno Crespi acquistò 85 ettari di terra dai comuni di Capriate San Gervasio e Canonica d'Adda. L'ambizioso progetto di Crespi prevedeva di affiancare allo stabilimento - similmente a quanto già accadeva nell'Inghilterra della rivoluzione industriale - un vero e proprio villaggio che ospitasse alcuni operai della fabbrica e le loro famiglie.

Il neonato insediamento venne dotato di ogni struttura necessaria: oltre alle casette delle famiglie operaie (complete di giardino ed orto) e alle ville per i dirigenti (che vennero costruite in seguito), il villaggio era dotato di chiesa, scuola, cimitero, ospedale, campo sportivo, teatro, stazione dei pompieri e di altre strutture comunitarie.

Crespi d’Adda è uno degli esempi meglio conservati di villaggio operaio industriale che esistano al mondo.

Contrariamente a siti analoghi, la stabilimento è stata funzionante fino al dicembre 2003 e le case sono tuttora abitate.

Crespi d’Adda (Northern Italy) is one of the best preserved examples of workmen’s village in the world: in fact it has been inserted in Unesco World Heritage since 1995.

Its origins date back to 1878, when the industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi decided to build here a plant for the working of the cotton: together with the plant he wanted to build also a village for the workers and managers, following the example of what happened in Great Britain during the Industrial Revolution.

The plant worked till 2003 and the houses are till now occupied.

My little Olympus OM-D continues to surprise me. I snapped this hand held sunrise shot from inside the car using a 75-300 zoom.

 

Cool weather and a nice breeze made for a nice day in the Florida Everglades before the hot, humid days of summer with the hordes of mosquitoes makes our visits more challenging.

This was on the third day of the last train to operate over most of the narrow gauge lines. This was the annual Kiwanis Color Caravan that ran from Alamosa to Silverton and return. The fare was $23.00 for the 3-day event.

 

The 487 is a main stay in the locomotive fleet at the C&TS these days but a few of us old enough had the fun of seeing this engine in actual service over the D&RGW.

 

Of course, knowing where this photo was taken, a train would be slowing down instead of charging forth as shown here. There was a stop several hundred feet past the bridge in Gato where the train would stop to take on water. The Gomez General store was to the right, out of the picture.

 

This scene was repeated on October 6 when the passenger cars from the Silverton consist were taken empty to Alamosa for their annual repair work.

This is a photograph that I took at Luffield corner during the Classic Car Sports Car Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1994. Leading is Frank Sytner in Anthony Bamford's 1956 Jaguar D-Type, a former Ecurie Ecosse car, chassis XKD603. I can't identify the car behind him but the following red car is the 1960 Maserati T61, chassis 2458, of Lindsay Owen Jones and in the background is the 1957 Maserati 250S of Robin Lodge, chassis 2432.

L'alpine hérens est originaire du Val d'Hérens, en Valais (Suisse), où, montagnarde à courtes pattes, elle grimpe facilement jusqu’à 3 000 mètres d'altitude. Ses ancêtres étaient présents en Valais vers 3000 av. J.-C. comme l'atteste un fragment de crâne retrouvé dans le site archéologique de Sion-Saint-Guérin (Chaix 1986). C'est en 1859 que la race d'Evolène, désignée dès 1861 sous le nom de race d'Hérens, est mentionnée pour la première fois dans les listes de concours.

Great Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 14 mi and covers more than 46 sq mi in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais.

One of my personal favs, the idea is that the shadows of the flowers are tattoos.

 

About the series: During our engagement, my Fiancée and I thought it would be fun to take our own engagement and wedding portraits. To take photos of both of us I’d set up the camera on a tripod and trigger it either by timer, or from a remote in my hand.

 

I won 1st place in the International Photography Awards for Wedding for this series!
