Day 55 of 365 (Year Four)
Another just for fun shot. I did this one a few days ago and I really wasn't feeling it for a facial selfie tonight. With Savanah reading the second book of the Percy Jackson series I had cyclopes on the brain and while rummaging for ideas I came across a single lone googly eye sitting out. One thing led to another and wa-lah.
I built these for a feature in issue 20 of Blocks magazine. They were a lot of fun to work on, and posed some interesting challenges, particularly Mystique.
I asked them to pose together... this is what I got. Felt bad for the guy dressed as Cyclops, tho. His uniform is almost all vinyl and he was sweating up a storm - ugh, bad pun, sorry - he was sweating a lot and having a hard time holding onto Storm.
UPDATE: These cosplayers were feature in the "A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay: July 13th (2012)" ! Yay!!!! :-D
I based this robot off Kelvin Low's tweaks to an existing mech/robot frame. Three cheers for Lego idea sharing!
Kelvin's tweak's can be found here: flic.kr/p/B7PAxS. The original frame by J Dennis can be found here: flic.kr/p/BWk53d
I didn't have all the parts in the above two frames, so I had to improvise (like in the hips). I need to get my hands on some of those t-joints I see so often in mech builds.
History of the shot:
While I wish I had a better camera, I went gonzo on this one. Let me ask fellow toy photographers: When taking toys out in the world for pics, do you not feel like answering 20 questions from strangers as to what you are doing? I don't! I must really look suspect, because I'm always wearing a hat an shades, pulling things quickly out of a messenger bag and shooting on the run.
Anyhow for this guy, I figure- fuck it , it's summer, I need to be outside taking pics. I wanted to shoot by the lake but figured that was the same boring shot I did last year with several toys. So I found a forest lined hill with a clearing and spotted a small patch of sunlight coming through. Perfect. Out comes the toy and I snapped away. Wish it was a tad more in focus but I love the setting.
