Olympus OM1 + 50mm/f1.8 + Expired Ilford FP4 Plus 125 + Home Development + Boiled + Salt Soaked.
10mins intermittent agitation in a spiral developing tank with Ilfotec DD-X (1+4)
I had already used the salty mixture to soak a roll of redscale film, but I wanted to do the same with this B&W FP4 film. Rather than throw the pre-prepared salt mixture out, I boiled the kettle & poured the hot water in a jug, immediately threw these negatives in the jug and left them there for about 1 min (no more). To my horror, the negatives responded by curling up rapidly, so I seized them out of the jug, and plunged them into the warm dissolved salty mixture that had already been used once. Then I left them for the requisite 10 minutes or so and dried them off.
Scanning, salt soaked, curly B&W 35mm film was what could be described as a challenging experience, actually it was a right royal pain in the a**e!
The results are quite different, from those achieved with the redscale film. I'm not sure whether this effect is the result of the boiling, the salting, or both. So now I have to boil some more FP4 without salting it, to see what happens...
Salt Soak.
Add 3ish parts BOILING water to 1ish part salt.
Dissolve mixture.
Put developed B&W negatives in the mixture.
Stir gently to ensure maximum solution coverage.
Leave for 10 mins or so.
Fish negatives out & hang (or stand) them where they can dry.
Wait.
Carefully wipe off salty debris from glossy side first.
Gently wipe reverse side to free it of excessive salt residue, but take care so not to lift emulsion or scratch it excessively.
Scan.
