Lying amongst the ramparts of the White Caterthun Hillfort north of Brechin, this likely neolithic cup-marked stone consists of around 80 cup-marks, several of which appear linked by carved lines.
Its origin - like pretty much every other cup-marked stone on the Atlantic seaboard of Europe - is shrouded in mystery and it certainly predates the Iron Age Hillfort it lies within. The Neolithic in Scotland began approximately 6,100 years ago and ended around 4,500 years ago (4,100 BCE to 2,500 BCE) while the White Caterthun is a mere 2,000 - 2,500 years old.
I loved coming up here as a kid with my parents. The views across Strathmore and the Howe of the Mearns are spectacular and the sense that you're touching our ancient past is profound.
On this bright but windy Sunday I had the place to myself and its happy memories.
This photo is for Kims 2B class week 5.. I just love the light in my craft room.. I usually don't have a muffin up there. But I have had plenty cups of coffee up there. I have been playing with Lightroom and I am loving it. But I still couldn't get this photo dreamy enough till I added a texture.

I made this yesterday for my birthday and I loved them!! First time I have ever made them and I think they turned out pretty cute and yummy too :-)
Sometimes it's nice to drink from a cup and saucer as opposed to a mug!!

Scarlet Elf Cup / sarcoscypha austriaca. Cloud Wood, Leicestershire. 14/03/20.
In these fraught and worrying days, any pops of colour in our lives must be welcomed and appreciated. Scarlet Elf Cups certainly provided me with a huge smile when I visited a Leicestershire nature reserve a short while ago. It's been ages since I last found any.
The diminutive, irregular cup-shaped fungi go by a variety of names ... Scarlet Elf Caps, Red Cups, Scarlet Cups, Moss Cups and my favourite, Fairies Baths!
You'll notice that I wasn't the first to discover this one. The variety of holes in the cup are signs that slugs and small rodents had beat me to it ... definitely not a suitable bath for any woodland fairies!
