Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, Cod. Guelf. A Aug. 2°, detail of f.347. Septem missae solemnes cum notis musicis 1519/1520.
~ I took this photo at an open air market in Rhodes, Greece. At first I thought I was looking at an artistic interpretation of Medusa or some other sensual mythological ancient greek character.
~ But it turns out that this mysterious female figure was actually the display for a booth that was selling bohemian hair-wrapping. The 'mystical being' before me was really only a mannequin head used to attract attention and entice tourists into thinking these colorful, quirky hair-wraps were a funky 'must-have' for a girl on vacation, ready to celebrate & let loose in a far away exotic land.
~ I've seen these hair-wraps in Jamaica & other vacation destinations and I think they make a good touristy investment - This simple little touristy purchase can actually become a mystical, magical vacation mood-setter & memory-maker. You see the hair wraps are much more than a kooky little hair accessory, they are an experience enhancer and a mindset makeover because once the vacationer gets her eccentric, gypsie, boho hair treatment, it is time to TURN THINGS UP!!! Have the perfect adventure-filled, fanciful, wild time of her life. That magic of the hair wrap has freed her mind body & soul from being 'boring old bland Betty' to lavishly alluring 'party-time Patsy'!!!!!! (From AbFab).
~ The hair-wrap stands for something spicy & sassy, something saucy & sexy that she normally wouldn't wear a home.
BUT..... on vacation.....she can rock it like a star, a chick on a mission, a diva with desires, a man-eater, a dare-taker, an attention-getter - with nothing holding her back cause she can LET IT GO!!!! LET IT GO!!!
~And it's all in the name of good fun and feeling free!!
It's about feeling powerful & playful, ready for action & adventure....
and maybe even getting a little vacation-booty while she's at it!!!!!
~P.S. - I did not get a hair-wrap on this trip. Now that I think about it, I should have!!!

Student work. Students were shown examples of the Surrealistic painting technique of decalcomania used by Max Ernst, then given indistinct forms of dried Great Stuff spray foam insulation to interpret and transform into a fantastical creature of their own invention. Lesson plan originally developed by one of my former student teachers, Clint Jackson.

Al-Burāq (Arabic: البُراق al-Burāq "lightning") is a miraculous steed, described as a creature from the heavens which transported the prophets. The most commonly told story is how in the 7th century, the Buraq carried the prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem and back during the Isra and Mi'raj or "Night Journey", which is the title of one of the chapters of the Qur'an.

Prehistoric art: Human with feline head, made of mammoth ivory, ca. 30,000-28,000 BC.
One of the earliest sculptures discovered, found in fragments inside a cave at Hohlenstein-Stadel in Germany. The animal headed humans of Paleolithic art sometimes have been called sorcerers and described as magicians wearing masks. Similarly, Paleolithic human-headed animals have been interpreted as humans dressed up as animals.
To make this statue, it probably took a good several days of skilled work. The work is nearly foot tall-a truly huge image for its era. The sculptor remains unknown.
