Good morning. Because of the interest and dialogue centered around coffee from the last coffee bean photo posted I thought I would create a short, but informative series centered on what is many people's favorite beverage. The series will be more about the information and commentary than the photos, but I hope you enjoy the images also.

This first installment will center on the bean itself as understanding the complex world of coffee is a little like trying to understand wine...very intimidating to some. But you don't have to be an aficionado to brew great coffee at home. You just need to pay attention to a few details...starting with the beans.

There are only two kinds of coffee beans: "robusta and "arabica". Robusta is less expensive to produce and is used primarily in canned and instant coffee. It contains twice as much caffeine as arabica and is generally harsh in flavor. The majority of the world's coffee is arabica. It's definitely superior to robusta, but the quality of the beans can vary greatly so you need to find a trusted brand or source.

The flavor of the coffee is locked inside the green, unroasted beans. Roasting unlocks and helps develop the flavor. Longer roasting and higher temperatures make the beans darker and oilier, but sometimes border on being charred and bitter tasting from over roasting.

One last thing on beans and that is choosing coffee based solely on it's name is confusing. That's because beans can be named for their growing region (e.g. Kenya, Columbia, Brazil, Jamaica, etc.) and/or how dark they were roasted. A good thing to remember is there are only two kinds of coffee beans and that anyone can name/label coffee beans whatever it wants. So it's best to choose your coffee beans based on the degree of roast, which I'll elaborate more on further in the series.

Next installment will focus on freshness of the coffee/bean and maintaining it.

Take care...and I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Couldn't pass up this painting by Franz Winterhalter, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. Thought he was a homely little fella, so of course I had to put a cuter face on him:)

It's early days but I am slowly getting to grips with Photoshop Elements.

How can this be serious! What the heck.

Sometimes I think this is a view of the inside of my brain.

I wish you could have seen my granddaughters face when I showed her this image, she was very perplexed as to how she got into the bottle,

I added a couple party favors from PS & PSp to this one.

Im not sure why some of these images rendered with a white Bg but I like

the transparent & string-like effect.

This is my five year old son Taylor and this was my 1st attempt at doing this effect I applied this effect using the tutorial which can be found here: arique.livejournal.com/631845.html

It gives a very surreal edge to the photo which looks very cool.

Somewhere in Hopkins County, Texas. Taken 1991 with a Nikon 2020.

Damn I can never remember my access code. Its either 69696969 or 96969696.

Who'd give a code like that to a dyslexic!

If you like my work and fav it spend the time to comment please.

STILL LOOKING

I am looking for young male and female volunteer gritty, punky or just plain funky models

I would really like to photo you personally, however unless you live in West Yorkshire, UK that will not be possible. But it may be possible to direct you and then post your shots for editing. You will need to sign a model release form which I will supply. You can keep a set of finished shots but beware that I will own copyright of the finished images. If this interests you then please contact me through flickr.

thanks

Woso little devil, just doing a vertical mirror, the light is not coming from the right side ;-)

But this is one of the figure this plane can do.

Take your paper bag with you, we never know ...

for all you weary travellers this xmas x

Total fantasy....I pulled together some file pictures I'd taken as leaves for texture...re-engineered a photo of my granddaughter and imbedded it into the scene, added a star and cloud effect from ULEAD particle plugin, adjusted the lighting with filter, then grabbed one of my butterfly images from several months ago and plopped that in at the very end because she looks like she's looking at something.

As always, this was a PhotoShop excercise.wherein I learned and learned and learned...hopefully I'll remember, remember and remember the next time I want to do something similar.

Some of you may think I should have cropped out some of that space on the left..tried that and I lost the feeling of really being in that environment..I need the depth that space adds.

Point of View: You, the viewer are standing behind the leaves of a tree, completely in shadow, looking out at the scene.
