Another old barn we saw on our recent evening drive... what a beautiful setting! This one is a typical Lancaster County "bank barn." It is built into a hillside so that both levels are easily accessible. The upper level is most often used for storing hay, grain, and farm equipment. The lower level, where the animals are usually kept, has a "forebay," or overhang, which helps provide shelter from the elements.
Triangle Lake is an unincorporated community in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It is about 25 miles (40 km) west of Junction City on Oregon Route 36, on the southwest side of the lake of same name. Lake Creek, a tributary of the Siuslaw River, enters and exits the lake.[2] Triangle Lake is closely linked to the unincorporated community of Blachly, on the northeast side of the lake, and the two communities share the K-12 Triangle Lake School, the only school in Blachly School District.
The 293-acre (1.19 km2) lake has had various names over the years, including Loon Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Echo Lake, but the name Triangle Lake (after the lake's shape) became the official name in the early 1900s. Before Fern Ridge Reservoir was completed in 1941, the lake was the most popular local spot for water sports.
Amenities at Triangle Lake County Park include two picnic tables, a boat dock, and toilets. Activities at the lake include boating, swimming, and fishing.
Fish species in the lake, which reaches a depth of 90 feet (27 m), include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch, brown bullhead, kokanee, and cutthroat trout. The kokanee, landlocked sockeye salmon, thrive in the deep water, while good bass habitat is found along the south and east shores.

Last week I went on a little adventure to Calvert County, MD to take some sunset pics. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve last visited but I had seen some amazing pics from there and wanted to give it a try. Here’s a private beach behind some homes I trespassed on. It’d be so cool to have THIS as your backyard.

The rough economy has taken its toll on businesses around the region, and a historic movie theater in Kentucky is the latest victim.
The Strand Twin movie theater has been rolling film in Prestonsburg, Ky., for more than 60 years, but the final scene is approaching.
Declining ticket sales and digital upgrades that would cost more than $200,000 dollars are just too much to keep the old theater going. (1)

This fossil tree trunk is preserved as a shale-filled cast. Casts are a fossil preservation style involving sediments filling up the space where an organism used to be. Casts are usually composed of sandstone or shale.

The Leflore County Courthouse in Greenwood, Mississippi is one of the most impressive in the state. Greenwood is one of the largest towns in the Mississippi Delta and owed much of its prosperity at the time of the courthouse's construction to the cotton industry. The city still calls itself the Cotton Capital of the World.
Built in 1885 out of Ionia Sandstone. This courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places
Earth, TX (Lamb County)
Earth is a small, rural city in Lamb County, West Texas, United States. As of 2022, the population was 999.
Earth was established by William E. Halsell, who laid out the townsite in 1924. Originally Halsell named the city Fairlawn, but in 1925 it was renamed Earth when it was learned that there was already a town in Texas by the name of Fairlawn. In order to find a new name the townspeople sent in suggestions, and the agreed-upon best name was chosen. The name Earth was submitted by Ora Hume (O.H.) Reeves, who became the owner of the city hotel. Mr. Reeves' son-in-law, Frank Wesley Hyatt, was the first postmaster in Earth. (1)

Barclays closed a number of branches in 2017 with County Road being one of them. The site is now a charity shop.

Seen here laying over in Bedford Bus Station circa 1988 is Leyland National MNH 576V. It sports United Counties' immediate post-deregulation livery which was superseded after a couple of years with Stagecoach stripes. This bus, like several ex-United Counties Nationals ended up with CMT of Aintree, Liverpool but was scrapped in the early 2000's following an engine failure.

It's the end of the line for this Ventura County engine, along with most of her 1987-vintage sister engines. After 21 years of service, it's off to a new home, the scrap heap, or somewhere in between. These Spartan/FMCs went in service back when I was still in High School. I know it's just a collection of metal, wires, pipes, buttons and switches, but you have to stop and think about everything this engine saw in 21 years of service. All the calls it responded to, the different FFs that rode on her, the lives that were saved when she showed up, and those where the help came a little too late. I remember when they first got these, and how excited everyone was when they first arrived. Doesn't seem like 21 years have gone by.
The Rock of Cashel (Irish: Carraig Phádraig [ˈcaɾˠəɟ ˈfˠaːd̪ˠɾˠəɟ]), also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is an historic site located at Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland.
According to local legends, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil's Bit, a mountain 20 miles (30 km) north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock's landing in Cashel. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century.
The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. In 1101, the King of Munster, Muirchertach Ua Briain, donated his fortress on the Rock to the Church. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries.
The oldest and tallest of the structure is the well preserved round tower (28 metres, or 90 feet), dating from c.1100. Its entrance is 12 feet (3.7 m) from the ground, necessitated by a shallow foundation (about 3 feet) typical of round towers. The tower was built using the dry stone method. Modern conservationists have filled in some of the tower with mortar for safety reasons.

Cormac's Chapel, the chapel of King Cormac Mac Carthaigh, was begun in 1127 and consecrated in 1134. It is a sophisticated structure, with vaulted ceilings and wide arches, drawing on contemporary European architecture and infusing unique native elements. The Irish Abbot of Regensburg, Dirmicius of Regensburg, sent two of his carpenters to help in the work and the twin towers on either side of the junction of the nave and chancel are strongly suggestive of their Germanic influence, as this feature is otherwise unknown in Ireland. Other notable features of the building include interior and exterior arcading, a barrel-vaulted roof, a carved tympanum over both doorways, the magnificent north doorway and chancel arch and the oldest stairs in Ireland. It contains one of the best-preserved Irish frescoes from this time period. The Chapel was constructed primarily of sandstone which has become waterlogged over the centuries, significantly damaging the interior frescoes. Restoration and preservation required the chapel be completely enclosed in a rain-proof structure with interior dehumidifiers to dry out the stone. It is now open for limited tours to the public.
Irish High Cross at the Rock of Cashel
The Cathedral, built between 1235 and 1270, is an aisleless building of cruciform plan, having a central tower and terminating westwards in a massive residential castle. The Hall of the Vicars Choral was built in the 15th century. The vicars choral were laymen (sometimes minor canons) appointed to assist in chanting the cathedral services. At Cashel, there were originally eight vicars choral with their own seal. This was later reduced to five honorary vicars choral who appointed singing-men as their deputies, a practice which continued until 1836. The restoration of the Hall was undertaken by the Office of Public Works as a project in connection with the European Architectural Heritage Year, 1975. Through it visitors now enter the site.
In 1647, during the Irish Confederate Wars, Cashel was sacked by English Parliamentarian troops under Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin. The Irish Confederate troops there were massacred, as were the Catholic clergy, including Theobald Stapleton. Inchiquin's troops looted or destroyed many important religious artefacts.
In 1749, the main cathedral roof was removed by Arthur Price, the Anglican Archbishop of Cashel. Today, what remains of the Rock of Cashel has become a tourist attraction. Price's decision to remove the roof on what had been called the jewel among Irish church buildings was criticised before and since.
