Cooper's Hawk

Noticed this Cooper's Hawk up in the tree when I was walking the dog this morning. I quickly returned home and grabbed my camera.

Fortunately he stayed long enough for me to capture about ten shots before he relieved himself and flew away.

Tribute to my dear artist friend

BARBARA COOPER

My favorite artist, and dearest friend, BARBARA COOPER, ended her suffering back in 2007.

BC was a wonderful artist. I collected many of her works and have quite a few of her paintings in my apartments. It always seems that she is right there with me for I see her in her paintings.

BC is the person who gave me the cool FRENCH-ENGLISH dictionary with the hidden story inside. Somehow her guides, knew that of all her friends, it would be ADDA who would find that incredible story. I will always be grateful for that tremendously generous gift.

Adda was one of the first collectors of her incredible paintings, as well, as an advisor to her first venture into selling her paintings. (Ask more MONEY, was my advice! hahaha)

I was able to connect her with the folks at VISUAL AID who welcomed her in their arms. They provided her with vouchers for art supplies and wonderful heartfelt support.

BC was collected by many people in the BAY AREA. She won several awards and was featured in several art shows in Marin.

Every year BC contributed some of her art works to benefit VISUAL AID and other organizations.

She was deeply loved and appreciated by her friends and her art loving admirers.

my friend STEVIE passed away last week, (MAY 2013) and his sister has distributed some of his items. STEVIE also loved BC a lot and he had a huge collection of BC (Barbara Cooper) paintings. Most of the BC paintings went to me, which opened a flood of tears...remembrance of two friends who are no doubt parting and painting on another level....

Miss you my dear artist pal BC and I miss my cherished friend STEVIE...

Cat's Dream

How neatly a cat sleeps,

sleeps with its paws and its posture,

sleeps with its wicked claws,

and with its unfeeling blood,

sleeps with all the rings--

a series of burnt circles--

which have formed the odd geology

of its sand-colored tail.

I should like to sleep like a cat,

with all the fur of time,

with a tongue rough as flint,

with the dry sex of fire;

and after speaking to no one,

stretch myself over the world,

over roofs and landscapes,

with a passionate desire

to hunt the rats in my dreams.

I have seen how the cat asleep

would undulate, how the night

flowed through it like dark water;

and at times, it was going to fall

or possibly plunge into

the bare deserted snowdrifts.

Sometimes it grew so much in sleep

like a tiger's great-grandfather,

and would leap in the darkness over

rooftops, clouds and volcanoes.

Sleep, sleep cat of the night,

with episcopal ceremony

and your stone-carved moustache.

Take care of all our dreams;

control the obscurity

of our slumbering prowess

with your relentless heart

and the great ruff of your tail.

I can't seem to find anything out there right now, so I went into my files, I think this is a female?

Spent some time out in the yard this afternoon trying to get bird photos in the snow. All at once the birds scattered and then I saw way. A young Coopers hawk was trying to get lunch! The hawk flew around the bushes and this was the best image I could get. I looked over at one of the feeders and saw a male Downey Woodpecker keeping perfectly still. He was just peaking around the edge of the feeder keeping an eye on the hawk. The woodpecker didn't move for almost 8 minutes! A Blue Jay came around and started harrying and taunting the hawk. The woodpecker saw the distraction and made a dash in the opposite direction. The hawk never got his lunch and eventually flew away. Just wish he had landed on a branch where I could have gotten a better image

William Armstrong Cooper, 1813-1909, known as Uncle Billy. He was a prominent minister in the area for 73 years who married countless couples. His grandfather was George Frederick Cooper, a veteran of the Revolution who lived near the mouth of Beaver Creek on the Cumberland River. His son Henry was the father of William aka Uncle Billy, who established many churches and baptized six persons who later became governors of states, according to some sources. Other sources say that he baptized Governors Bramlett and Leslie of Kentucky and Bob and Alf Taylor of Tennessee. He was influential on the community, and his speech to stop the Home Guard and State Guard from fighting in the Civil War is commemorated on the Wayne County Courthouse.

It is generalized that he baptized 3000 people and married 1300 couples.

Cooper and friends celebrate turning 3!

There has to be a hidden message in here somewhere!
