one of the old grills at the club property we use to smoke meat before the parties. Don't worry the inside isn't corroded, it has a force field from years of thick apple & hickory smoke. Perfectly seasoned like a cast iron pan.

Inexplicably this apartment had no rice cooker, so I had to buy one. I bought a super-fancy one for 24,000 yen. It uses 3 stages of pressure cooking and god knows what.
No bread mode like the cheaper non-pressure ones tho :/

I recall visiting this place in 1987, although I was extremely young at the time. My recollection was that they had outstanding Manhattan-style clam chowder that we ate while waiting in line. Upon being seated, we had mediocre food served on paper plates. Of course, this could be just a childhood memory. I was almost tempted to go back.

Using the Cookit I was able to cook up 3 cups of basmati rice in 2 hours. I put it on at 3 and it was done by 5.
These oblong roasting pans fit the Cookit shape nicely and can cook a lot of food!
I made the Cookits from double-thickness cardboard and reinforced all the edges, seams and flex points with foil tape. The thicker cardboard resists the wind, and the foil-taped edges help with the rain.
Another Blue Note release, The Cooker (1958) was bebop trumpeter Lee Morgan's 7th album (at only 19 years old!), and his first with only original, self-penned tunes. As expected, the photo was taken by Francis Wolff, and the cover design by Reid Miles.
This looks more orange than the red I have typically seen, but I expect that it may have been released several times, with slightly varying colors.

Thought this rusty barrel against an aging brick wall made an interesting pic. It appears it may be used as a cooker of some description given the metal grated top over it. Sadly did not have time to explore.

Went out last night, with the usual suspects to play with fire at a new location, acottage which has been abandoned for 20 odd years.
Found this cooker in the kitchen (surprisingly) have no idea if it's still connected, but thought it was worth a shot or two. Have tried to give it that sort of horror/Blair Witch type feel, not sure i've achieved it really.
And here's the rice! I washed and soaked three cups of basmati, set it to cook and it came out perfectly.
A day later I made four cups of basmati, washing it but not soaking it, and it came out just as good if not a bit better - the grains were ever so slightly less crumbly.
Either way, this was far and away the best rice I had ever cooked myself, even on the stovetop. I couldn't be happier.
