A student designed inexpensive solar cooker, by the students of the RWA School of Architecture, University of Bristol.
The reflector is a parabola formed of small hardboard pieces, covered in Bakofoil, cut to computer generated shapes to form the double curvature.
A kettle is ghosted into the photo and one boiled in very few minutes, even IN DOORS, some yards from a south facing window. It didn't pay to leave one's hand at the focus for long! The reflector generated considerable power even with such simple construction and materials.

Here's the reason why I haven't eaten properly all week . . .
. . . it blew up (sparks + loud bang) on Monday, tripping the circuit breaker.
--- I'm restricted in which models I can choose to replace it because it's only 50cm in width and most new ones are 60cm across.
Unless I call the kitchen cabinet people to alter the cabinets on both sides, I have to find a new one that's ALSO only 50cm in width . . .
-- New one I found is not in stock in any store and so can only be delivered in 8 days at the earliest . . .

This is the machine that cooked me with radiation in TRJ (Treatment Room Jura) .
The table gets raised to about 5 feet up. Then the nurses position me with laser-precision as they align me up using 3 wee permanent tattoos in my armpits and chest. I got cooked from above, then from the left, then right, and then from below.
But the nurses would come in after each session to ensure I was in the exact position needed. I got cooked for about 20-30 seconds each time, and the whole lot is done in about 10 minutes. Ping!
