I bought myself an early birthday gift, upgrading to a big girl rice cooker!
This is replacing the awful $20 Black & Decker model I've been using to burn the crap out of rice for the past decade.
During a brief lull in the rain I put out the solar cookers, not expecting to get a result, but there was plenty of interest from a wide variety of visitors and the event was enjoyable.
The cooker in the centre was working, with just a half litre of water in a pot, pointing at the sun, while the round ones were just for show, hence pointing the wrong way. The breaks in the cloud lasted just long enough to see the thermometer creep up and it topped at about 58C, which was enough to demonstrate that it worked.

The villa and garden with the circular solarium on the first floor.
The villa is around 5 years old, owned and meticulously maintained since bought from new. It is situated on the La Finca Golf development, a championship standard course.
There are 3 bedrooms - two twins on the ground floor, sharing a bathroom, and a lovely master bedroom on the first floor with ensuite shower and dressing room.
All three bedrooms have ample wardrobe space.
The master suite has direct access onto the southwest facing circular solarium through sliding patio doors.
The solarium is very private, ideal for sunbathing as it is in full sun from mid-morning. There is plenty of room for loungers as well as a dining table, which comfortably seats six.
Downstairs, the open plan living/dining room has access onto the lower terrace, again ideal for al fresco dining.
The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, full size cooker and hob as well as plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment.
The villa is part of a small community within the development which includes a number of friendly, permanent residents. Our community has a very well-maintained swimming pool and formal garden for all to enjoy.

You will need a car - however, the good news is that prices are amazingly reasonable in this region. Rates start at around £10/day for a small hatchback in low season.
There's plenty to do and see locally. Two favourite beaches, at Pilar de la Horedada and Santiago de la Ribera, are shown in the photo album. The local Sunday market is great for, well, basically everything - but particularly local produce which is of superb quality and nothing like the 'sanitised' fruit and veg we are so used to in the UK.
The superb, freshly cooked churros and spit-roasted chicken also come highly recommended.
This is my rice cooker I got in Japan this fall. I love it. One of
simpler models the store had, but it's super fancy if you ask me. Last
night I used the sprouted rice mode (using regular brown rice) for the
first time, and now I know I can't live without this thing. Japanse
home appliances are just so amazing.
