We had our new cooker installed today. It will be nice to get back to cooking on a gas hob after so many years on electric.
I am still feeling rotten so haven't had the energy to go out and get a proper picture, rather stay in bed and rest up. Hopefully I'll be back on my feet tomorrow and will capture something more inspiring.

Day 11. Man oh man do I need a rice cooker. I mean a REAL rice cooker. Maybe a Zoji or something. Anything is better than this.

The Cookers, dans sa formation culte, réunit d’anciennes gloires du jazz connues pour avoir accompagné des musiciens de légende. En guise d’hommage, le nom du groupe fait référence au disque éponyme de Freddie Hubbard, Blue Note, de 1965 et à son fameux duel de trompettes avec Lee Morgan.

Le trompettiste David Weiss, le benjamin, est à l’initiative de ce groupe. Grand organisateur et jeune commis au milieu des chefs, il participe de manière déterminante à la réussite de l’ensemble. Cette formation cache, sous ses apparences calmes, une énergie débordante et qui s’exprime en de lentes mais implacables avancées chaloupées.
Ces artisans du jazz modestes et soigneux construisent des thèmes efficaces, habillés de cuivre raffinés et mènent jusqu’à l’explosion. Artisans, peut-être, mais le septet fut avant tout la cheville ouvrière des très riches heures du hard bop ainsi que du jazz spiritualiste. Cuisson à feu doux qui, l’air de rien, parvient à ébullition. . .
Qui sont « The Cookers » ?
Dans sa formation culte, « The Cookers » réunit 5 musiciens aux parcours éclectiques :
David WEISS (trompette) est le fondateur du New Jazz Composers Octet côtoya Barry Harris, Mulgrew Miller, Abbey Lincoln, Terence Blanchard, Roy Hargrove.
Billy HARPER (saxophone ténor) fut membre de groupes dirigés par Lee Morgan et Max Roach et passa deux ans avec les Jazz Messengers d’Art Blakey.
Eddie HENDERSON (trompette) et Billy Hart (batterie) faisaient tous deux partie de l’ensembleélectrique Mwandishide Herbie Hancock.
George CABLES (piano) a joué aux côtés de Dexter Gordon et Art Pepper.
Cecil McBee (contrebasse) participa au célèbre quartet des années 1960 de Charles Lloyd avec Keith Jarrett et Jack DeJohnette et accompagna également Art Pepper. Il tint notamment la contrebasse au côté d’Alice Coltrane et Pharoah Sanders.
