I thought this little Datsun convertible was really cute!
The brand new C7 Stingray Convertible sits in the paddock at Sebring International Raceway. Its fitting that I see my first C7 convertible here as the first time I saw a C7 coupe was at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

BMW car production began in 1929 following the acquisition of the Dixi Werke which had a licence to built the Austin Seven, designated as BMW 315/1 PS Type DA2, more commonly known as the BMW Dixi. By 1931 BMW were looking to build a larger car that could seat up to four adults in comfort. After seeing plans for the new car Austin agreed to release BMW from their manufacturing licence from March 1932.
The replacement model, the 3/20 PS type AM1 was launched the following month, firstly in Saloon form, followed by a Convertible Coupe and Roadster. The engine was an evolution of the Dixi (315/1) with a slightly increased bore and overhead valves. The gear box and differential hardly changed. The chassis and suspension were all new, featuring a back bone chassis and all round independent suspension. Due to a lack of suitable personnel, CEO Franz Josef Popp commissioned Daimler-Benz engineers in Stuttgart to design the new body. The contract with Daimler-Benz also included a clause for the production of the bodywork. For this reason, a special production line was set up in Sindelfingen, which dealt exclusively with the production of the body of the new BMW model. As Daimler-Benz did not specialise in the production of riveted bodies made entirely of steel, the new BMW 3/20 reverted to the timber-and-steel design already familiar in the Austin Seven cars.

I've driven a lot of them but I've never had one for a lens. Second of two shots made with exactly the same camera position and movements. One at 315mm and this one at 180mm.

There may be other W123 CE Coupes that have been chopped, Crayford did some, among other coach builders but none are like this one.
In 1988 a Swedish stockbroker had a hankering for a 4/5 seat Mercedes convertible with power hood, no such car existed of course, the only car MB built was the SL which failed on two out of three counts.
So the gentleman approached a certain Mr Leif Mellberg, "Who?" I hear you ask..Among other things Mellberg built the EV-1 SAAB concept car of 1985 and in 1984 the SAAB Speedster-a heavily restyled 900 with convertible top,

So, who better to talk to?
Mellberg was supplied the 1980 Merc 280 CE Coupe, and took it apart, chopped the roof off and fitted a bespoke power hood. It didn't stop there though, he also fitted electric windows, full leather seating-all heated, wood trim, bespoke interior lighting, cruise control and a new stereo. The chrome bolt on wires were added at the same time along with the extra chrome, the whole lot was topped off with a new coat of metallic blue, a lovely shade I think. the stockbroker was then handed a bill for £21000, nearly double the price of the original car.
The car was put away just two years later after problems in the stock market led to financial trouble for the owner and it didn't surface again until 1995. To date the car has covered just 30000 miles.
I think you'll agree, it's simply stunning.
ECW bodied convertible Bristol VRTSL3/6LXB 617 (UWV 617S) recently restored to Southdown West Sussex two tone green and cream livery looked superb as it stood on the seafront at Worthing on July 31st 2016.
The Sportsman was a convertible version of the Mercury Super Eight, produced in 1946 and 1947. It's a rare beast, with only 205 built. .

Just a generic red convertible I did last May. I posted this as part of a group pic but never on its own. This was one of the first cars that I did in 6 wide scale.

Five Northern Counties bodied DAF DB25 double deckers were acquired by Wilts & Dorset from Wall, Sharston in 1997. All were subsequently rebuilt as convertible open toppers for use on service 150 between Swanage and Bournemouth. 3148 (M17 WAL) stands at the Swanage Railway's station in the town on July 18th 2004.
After years of home built and small volume independent conversions, Rover finally launched their own convertible Mini in 1992 and this was the result. Overall I think this is a successful conversion, but the hood sat on the rear has always irked me somewhat looks-wise. Without that I think it would look perfect, but then I guess it had to fold somewhere.
