Mercedes (A208) CLK 320 Convertible. 3.2L 215BHP V6.
Although a late 98 registration, the 320 soft top was released for the 99 model year, to join the 320 Coupe in the range introduced in 97, earlier cars had the 200/230 engine only
Though similar in style to the E class, and shares some parts, the CLK uses the C class platform and has higher trim levels than the E class.
One of these was on my list of possible Saab replacements, but every one advertised had front wings that were rotted out and crispy rear arches and/or had way too many miles, rust and miles both being problems encountered when buying a used Merc.
eBay threw up this one from a bona fide home trader though, a bit older than I was looking for but with 127k, full history, zero rust, all the handbooks, new tyres, recent service and nearly a year's Mot.
It's also got a later stereo with Bluetooth that works and a USB port.
Everything works including the parking F and R sensors, the leather is good, and it drives very nicely indeed, with plenty of go on tap if you want it, and with a 5sp auto it's going to be quite economical on a run.
I have to say, much as I like the Saabs, apart from rear leg room this is a far superior convertible. No scuttle shake at all.
Did I pay much for it?
Don't be daft, this is me remember !
Not an XL, this is a bench seat car. It has a 390 engine and 4-speed transmission. At a cruise night in Frankfort, Illinois. That's my grandson Derrick, checking out the engine.
I have a fair amount of 1/64 Motormax products in my collection dating back at least two decades yet strangely I've never encountered this 1998 Ford Mustang Convertible until very recently and so thanks once again Mikaela for sending me it. It looks to be part of one of their first batches of legit licensed castings which almost looked as good and realistic as equivalent Matchbox and Hot Wheels of the period. Well cast with a beautiful green paint finish and painted external detailing it showed at the time that relatively new budget diecast brands could rise above the usual unlicensed and cheapo dross that was also being produced. In loose and preloved condition.
This car was on exposition in Prague in the 30ies, where a rich industrialist buyed it and had it even after the communists got all of his belongings after the 48 coup. In the 70ies he sold it to the actual owner, who keeps it in original state.
Why build just one i8 if there is an option to build another one, but just make it convertible. So I did.
For those who didn't notice the first one - here's the album link: www.flickr.com/photos/the_rolic/albums/72157716803125113
And - what's best - it has instructions available now here: rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-57837/Rolic/bmw-i8/#details
As the title states - it features retractable roof (loosing the space for rear seats).
For those who saw my blue i8 - remember I used the rigid hose to shape the door window frame and door hinge at the same time. Obviously - I couldn't use the same technique here as there is no window frame from end-to-end. There's just a small triangle. But!!!! With the help of few bar pieces and droid arms I could achieve everything I thought was impossible.
So I hope you like this one as much as I do. Let me know :)
I think this Flavia Convertible is based on the 1962-68 Pininfarina Coupe, in which case it came with two engine options - 1.5 and 1.8 OHV flat-4 units mounted at the front, with front-wheel drive. The 1.8 litre unit developed 100bhp. I'm pretty sure that the 'V' badge on the rear wings means that the body was built or designed by Vignale, and there was also a Zagato Sport version. Today these are rare cars anywhere, let alone the UK, and prices are around £25k for one in top condition, but beware as rust is an integral part of these cars.
I've never associated the discount supermarket Lidl as a place for buying 1/64 diecasts but back in November 2017 they briefly sold a variety of new Matchbox five vehicle sets and noticeably undercut ASDA too which technically are the only retailer supposed to sell them! At just a fiver per set I bought a couple of the 100% licensed ones which meant obtaining a few of these delightful 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle convertibles. Its a casting i'd not seen for a while so was more than happy to see its return even if its chrome detailing had inevitably been replaced by grey! Well cast , nicely detailed and benefiting from a resolutely normal looking paint finish. Mint and boxed.

Chevrolet Corvette 1977 Convertible.
The car is a 1977 Corvette that was purchased by Frank the owner in 1977 from Palmyra Motors, Palmyra, NY.
As some of you know that there were no convertibles built between 1975 to 1983. The car was a T-top car that was converted to a convertible with the experienced hands at The Fiberglass Body, Hawthorne, CA. It has a fiberglass front bumper and a 1981 fiberglass rear bumper. A 1979 Pace Car front spoiler. The convertible top parts are from 1968-1975 donor cars. All the emblems were removed and filled. All the body work was completed at The Fiberglass Body. The final bodywork and paint was done by the California Body Works, Hawthorne, CA. Black primer and block sanded. Epoxy black primer and block sanded. Final black paint and clear coated. Color sanded and buffed. I did most of the mechanical and all of the electrical work on the car.

They are recovered in black and tan leather and the steering wheel was covered to match. A 1999 Corvette rearview mirror was added to replace the dome light that was relocated to the rear storage compartment. The recovered sun visors were from a Volvo to add the lighted mirrors and home link for the garage door. The convertible top is covered with a canvas top. The interior was covered and installed by B & R Auto Upholstery, Hawthorne, CA

A casting transformed in its still young life when given simple chrome disc wheels which Matchbox have continued with ever since.
The Matchbox VW Beetle Convertible was launched just after the real version had been discontinued to not much fanfare as its time had come and gone long before! A nice replica though and looking rather radiant in this brand new 2023 Case D recolour.
Found at B&M Bargains.
Mint and boxed.
I never expected to see an apparently unrestored GTO convertible just sitting in a lot in Providence. Check out the old-fashioned snow tires on the back!
Taken at the Fastiques Rod & Custom Car Club's Pumpkin Run Nationals car show and swap meet held at the Clermont County Fair Grounds in Owensville, Ohio. Other than the paint and wheels, this Buick appears to be stock. Who knows what lurks under the hood?
