Contribution to MM challenge 6/3/20, theme needles and pins
Thought this might be easy having done pretty much the same thing before for the eyes theme way back when. However the realisation that all the sewing kit is still in London...
This became a technical exercise in capturing something as a 1:1 image that can actually be seen so in come the extension tubes! Basically I couldn't see the hole in the needle even with glasses on!
One note on the image - it isn't actually monochrome!!

This is my contribution to the Looking close ... on Friday Group. This week’s theme is : magic. Have a great day and Let the magic of the weekend begin!!!
Macro Mondays contribution for 24 October 2016:
Swarowski Crystal Pig. The title means something in that "he" managed to get from his home and under my feet - quite a drop! As I needed to capture a back lit subject he became the obvious choice!
Lighting is all natural which meant I didn't have much time to get a half decent shot. Now I get an idea of what landscape photographers have to deal with.
This is my contribution to this weeks Macro Monday theme of Rock;
I collected these small rocks/ pebbles/stones from a beach on the Isle of Lewis and Harris and kept them for their colours and textures. I like them and I hope you do too! HMM
Contribution to MM challenge for 1/4/19, theme "April Fools"
This is something that amazed me since I first started looking at photography (though my ability isn't reflected in how long ago that was!) There always seemed to be a picture of an apple on fire and it's taken me this long to get round to trying it for myself. After all, how hard can it be in these days of digital compared to all those attempts with film.
Well..... Not as easy as I thought it would be. It took ages to find the right method to get the apple to actually catch light. I tried everything from lighter fluid to paraffin stopping short of petrol. Then there was the time I had to soak the stalk(?) to get it to hold the flame. But perseverance got me there in the end late last night. Bonus was the starry sky outside but the breeze made things tricky too.
Anyway I hope you all have a lovely day. I hear there's a Brexit deal all sorted out and signed by all parties and EU nations.
MM contribution 18/3/19, theme something to do with the first letter of my surname!!
Well this does indeed begin with the first letter of my surname. It then goes on to use the second, third and fourth letters of my surname in order. Then it stops.
Some flash usage here again but not interesting as it was all trial and error!!
My contribution to the Macro Mondays Group Challenge for 3 Octoberr 2016 - "In a Row"
I origianlly went looking for 2 people arguing but realised that wasn't what this was about!
My contribution for this week's theme "morning", for the Swedish photo group Fotosondag.
Torsdagmorgon. Tack, Dimman, tack.
Contribution to the Macro Mondays group for 17 October 2016. The theme is "Edge"
This is the edge of U2's album the joshua tree featuring, well, The Edge on guitar...
The 'spark line' along the edge of the disk appears to be created by the flash positioned on the opposite side of the CD shining through the CD. Took a while to work out!
its contribution and at the same time its limitation...

Contribution to the Macro Mondays Group for 7 November 2016 where the theme is "My Daily Routine". Shot at a 1:1 ratio, or very near to it as I wasn't using a focusing rail.
Part of my daily routine involves getting dressed as, I would hope, it does for most other group (Flickr?) members.
This item is what my sister and niece bought me for my (significant) birthday last year which I put on each morning. I like things to be, essentially, where I left them so I just reach out and pick them up. Sometimes I might forget something, maybe because of age, which is why they form part of a routine. Routine seems more important to me now than it ever used to...
It's a custom made "bangle" with the inscriptions "Vintage" & "19??"! The set up is deliberate!

contribution for MM challenge for 9/9, theme: Nine
long time since I've been able to do anything and thought a clock face would provide the perfect solution. unfortunately I don't have a clock (with a face) and although it's many years since I have worn a watch i still have a few lying around but none of them have numbers on them!
So I've gone for 9 things (and there are 9, I counted them at least 9 times) and tried to make my pic more about the abstract/bokeh/d.o.f./shape/lines. Unfortunately I don't have an artistic bone in my body!
I did take another shot with even more shallow DoF but somehow stuffed the focus up. This is a full 1:1 reproduction
My contribution to this weeks theme "Members Choice - Found in the kitchen" in the group Macro Mondays.
Europe, Aegean, Greece, Lesvos, Agia Paraskevi, Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production, Production hall.
Let's delve into the archives to visit a particularily intersting industrial museum: Lesvos' Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production.
From the website of the museum: "The Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos presents the industrial phase of olive-oil production in Greece. It focuses on the changes brought about by the introduction of mechanical motion on the process of olive-oil production and approaches the contribution of the region's inhabitants to the production process with sensitivity.
Its objective is to showcase Lesbos' industrial heritage in the sector of olive-oil production and incorporate it into the broader architectural, social and cultural context of the period. The Museum is housed in the old communal olive press of Aghia Paraskevi on the island of Lesvos. The buildings and the mechanical equipment have been restored in an exemplary fashion. Thus, you can observe how the equipment functions and how the factory evolved from steam power to diesel engine operation. At the same time, you will acquaint yourselves with daily life at the «People's Machine». "
As can be seen on the left of the frame is the vintage way of transfer of energy from the first phase of industrialization: a central steam engine that drives the production machinery via shafts and belts.
This number 51 of the Lesbos album.
contribution to Macro Mondays theme for 5/6/17 - "silhouette"
This isn't truly a backlit silhouette. Basically it's a VERY underexposed plant with a made up background shot in camera using flashes and foil. There, my secret's out.
Note that despite appearances this isn't a flower, it's some kind of succulent that lives in our bathroom. The shoot is new growth and the entirety of what is shown here measures about an inch!
More flash info: 2x Nikon SB-R200 units, one with green and one with amber gel. set behind subject firing onto foil covered board. both set to manual and 1/50 controlled by camera built in commander. rear curtain sync.
Beauty is a light in the heart ^_^

#DutchAngle
Please press "Z" :)
A very unusual (for me) MM contribution in quite a few ways, because it is a photo that I have neither taken at home nor specifically for the "dutch angle" theme – this fluffy feather was a chance discovery at last Wednesday's (fabuloutastic, I should add) photowalk at the Olympic stadium; I didn't even think about the theme when I found this pretty feather in a corner of a step of one of the many, many staircases there. And of course this isn't the photo from that walk that I'd planned to upload first, either ;-). But often things don't turn out as expected (something which happens a lot lately when it comes to MMs), and that's not always a bad thing.
This small feather, about 6 cm / 2,3 inches long, came to my rescue when my original idea didn't work out – which every way I tried to make it work (it was a small spoke reflector which I'd once found in the street; the idea was to capture its distorted reflection which made it look like a flowing piece of honeycomb, something that came to my mind because of the reflector's honeycombed structure; well, to make it short, I never managed to get the distorted reflection sharp enough so it would be pleasant to look at; maybe I can still make it work later... I also tried to magnify those honecomb patterns inside of the reflector by using the extension tubes and the Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens – but, no, it wasn't meant to work).
But back to my "Olympic feather": Most conveniently, I had already taken it at a dutch angle (Mr Freud, can you hear me?). It is a single handheld picture taken with the Ricoh (the GRIII rocks!) which I've sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI, and then further processed it in Nik's HDR Efex Pro – I started with the "En Vogue" preset "Cool Deep" which I'd then still tweaked a little here or there. And because the staircase I'd found this feather on had been in a shadowy corner of the stadium (and the feather in an even more shadowy corner of the step), the DNG outcome was rather dull; to add some much needed light I went into ON1 where I added a "Sunflare" texture filter to the upper left corner of the image; back in LR I added the preset "Soft Fog" and tweaked the luminosity and saturation sliders for a dreamy look.
HMM, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

Gardens of Great Britain
This is a series of photographs taken in the many gardens we have visited over a long period time. It never ceases to amaze how many gardens there are and the variety of planting they show, long may it continue.
Today’s contribution comes from RHS Rosemoor, Torrington, EX38 8PH, North Devon. Truly a terrific garden to visit.
My Contribution to Fence Friday.

Thank you so much for topping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!
contribution to MM challenge for 19/2/18: Fasteners.
I'd never photographed a zipper but had seen many pictures of them that really impressed me so I set out to have a go. This is the result! I became more obsessed with the button then with encapsulating 2 fasteners in the same image.
It was really hard to keep still while I took this.
Finally got Alyssia persuaded to pose for me 💋

The Challenge At Noshinima's Neighborhood: The City Block
This is the third of my challenges taking place at my brand new, bigger parcel, also named Noshinima's Neighborhood. This setup was a nightmare to work on, and after weeks of work and a lot of lindens spend, I have finally came up with a new challenge for all of you and it is now ready for visitors. This is a new concept I am showcasing on my Flickr, where I challenge 50 great artists to do a photo shoot in the backdrop I created at my home sim.
For the third challenge, I created a large New York style city block, complete with all the different types of retail store outlets you would find at in your typical downtown stroll along downtown. There are clothing stores, supermarkets, pizzerias flower shops and all types of different settings that can be potentially found in just one city block. This also comes with a fairly realistic street view complete with cars and trucks. I am challenging the names tagged in this post to do a shoot within my city block anywhere they like and however they like.
Rules and details:
1) I (Noshinima Midas) tag 50 names of great photographers on Second Life. Said photographers that choose to participate in the challenge can come over to my parcel, Noshinima's Neighborhood (link below) and do an image anywhere in my city. You will be allowed two hours to use any posestands or props that you would like to add and are allowed to bring any friends you want to join you in your shoot. You are also allowed to make the shoot as safe or as adult as you like. The only rule is that you do the shoot within the city block. Take your time to have a look around to see where in the block would make a great place for your image.
2) Upload the finished image onto Flickr and place the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge3 on either the title or the description.
3) YOU MUST TAG 10 PEOPLE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE TAKE THIS CHALLENGE ON YOUR UPLOAD OF YOUR SHOOT! NO MORE, NO LESS! I have had several people during previous challenges that have not followed this simple rule so I am making it ALLCAPS to get the point across. Link them to this post and explain the rules to them as well. They must also tag 10 of their friends that they would like to see do this challenge if they themselves choose to participate as well. You must tag people that are actual active photographers on Second Life. Tagging pages dedicated to advertising a store, tagging real life photographers and tagging empty profiles does not count and is against the rules. Also, although you are permitted to do this if you desire, tagging me and tagging yourself will not count towards the number of 10 photographers you are tagging.
I am available every day. If anyone has any questions, comments or would like help in their shoots, be sure to contact me on Flickr or Second Life.
To everyone tagged, remember that once you do the shoot from the city, you must tag 10 names that you would also like to see do this challenge and use the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge3
Here is the link to the city block:
Visit Noshinima's Neighborhood in Secondlife
Just a disclaimer. This is not a contest. It is simply a challenge for anyone to use my parcel in their photography as they see fit. Use any creative tactics you choose.
PS. The images shown on this post are pictures taken from the city block as examples of what my parcel looks like. I will post them all individually soon as examples of shoots done at my parcel.
PPS. I want to also add that while this challenge has officially started today, the city parcel itself is not yet completed. I am still working on adding small touches and details to make the parcel stand out. You may find empty rooms in the parcel but I will work on filling them up as soon as possible. Please excuse the otherwise unfinished and unorganized look of my city block.
Good luck to all those that choose to participate in the challenge. I am looking to see your creativity on display within the city block.
Love,
Noshinima Midas ;)
My contribution for #panamemdawarenessweek
Three PAR EMD GP40's put on a show of smoke and sound as they lead RUPO through Greene, Maine. While no doubt some of this was done especially for the camera it still is a sign of how tired and undermaintained these old geeps are. One has to wonder how the more maintenance intensive GE's will fare.
My contribution to "F" Unit Friday is a pair of MLW FPA-4's of the Grand Canyon RR seen here at the canyon on 3/25/1999. Doing what they had done for CN & Via haling passengers.
Our contribution for the January Round of THE CHALLENGE. With the chosen theme „Farm“ we crafted these „Little Farm Beds“. Each Bed is 0.7 x 1.9 meters in dimensions. In the package are: Empty Bed (LI 1 / 0.2 meters height), Carrots Bed (LI 1 / 0.4 meters height), Savoy Cobbage Bed (LI 4 / 0.4 meters height), Salad Bed (LI 2 / 0.3 meters height and the Beetroot Bed (LI 2 / 0.6 meters height).
The Little Farm Beds will be availabe 31st January at 22769 ~ [bauwerk].
Second contribution to Smile on Saturday, first one was a silhouette and not life-like.

Macro Mondays contribution for 6 Feb 2017 - "Say Cheese"
I hate cheese. Can't stand it. But this is an idea I have had for quite some time and I thought this was the best opportunity to actually try it out. The idea being to keep your mouse well fed!
My contribution to this weeks theme The Space In Between in Macro Mondays. I think it's pretty obvious that I mean that space between the brush and the bottle!
A joint contribution to the Fantasy Faire Emblem Project keeping the spirit (I hope) of the amazing work of Alisaundra Andel from previous years.

Mitt bidrag till “Crazy Tuesday” på temat “Candlelight in the Dark (Ett ljus i mörkret)
Here is my contribution to the Time Isles collaboration at BrickCon, where me and several others all built floating islands depicting important events in world history. This build is based in Florence, Italy, where the Italian Renaissance started. I wanted to make the base half-circular and include an interior to a building, which was an interesting challenge. I think it turned out alright in the end, though I wish I had time to add furniture and more minifigures in the building. The bent bricks for the base were a pain, as they kept falling apart, but it was a really fun technique to use. The cathedral is based on the main cathedral in Florence; that's where I got inspiration for the white and sand green colorscheme which is pretty unusual. I also really like how the small gray building turned out, and I'm glad I got another chance to use that cool arch technique.
Let me know what you guys think, thanks for looking!
