It turned out to be the real deal. Signing some papers and writing up an invoice for this ad deal. I must admit that I am pretty stoked about this. Day 1216 of the project.

“What’s the happiest moment in your life?”
“Probably like recently 6 months ago to be honest bruv. Like before, I would have said like (laughs) when my military service was over. Coz it was only 6 months but it felt like years, you know what I mean. But now it’s a whole different story coz, now like, I’ve lived that moment where, you’re in a situation, where it’s one of them ones where you like you’re stuck, you can’t move forward. But there’s something there for you to grab, but you got a chain on your leg you can’t go forward like coz. I got married, I got like I got engaged init and basically, like my misses she was, everything like the engagement, the wedding and that was all ready, what date was planned, everything. And obviously I never had no job, I had no money, I never had no job, I never had nothing and everything was just planned out and what, this is why what I said to you earlier. Like it’s a blessing fam coz the second, like you get into that, you put yourself in that situation when you’re like, when you have to do something, you need to get your arse, just brake that chain, and just move forward. Like it just, you just, it just happens, and also Allah helps you coz you’re praying and that. You’re just praying, praying, praying and just being patient coz patience obviously is a virtue, you know what I mean. You need to, you need to just wait and that’s what I was doing. I was waiting, waiting, waiting and 2 months before my wedding. I got this full time job, and obviously, I got my first payment, and then went straight to turkey and that was it. It was like, that first month, my first pay, is usually like in our culture you got to give that first pay to your mumzi or dadzi just so like the baraket (blessings) of your money is like, it goes up like it’s more valued you know. And obviously instead of doing something, instead of doing that, it still went for something good which was for the wedding. Coz my mumzi and dadzi was going to pay for everything anyway and obviously, I was always like praying ah I wanna help them out, I don’t want them to spend any money and that, so basically that was it yeah. I just I’ve just, I gave all of my money there, put it down, put my head down, got married and now I’m happy and obviously if you ask me the same question, like 3 or 4 months later. I’d probably say the happiest time for me is, I got my job, I applied for a visa and the visa has got accepted so my wife would be here. That I could bring my wife here and just start my own life, you know what I mean, and yeah that’s it.”

Members of United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400 today voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new, three-year collective bargaining agreement with Giant and Safeway that preserves their health and retirement security and increases their wages.
November 13, 2013 Giant members authorized the Local 400 union leadership to call a strike if necessary. The contract has been extended until Dec 20th as the company and union sit back down at the bargaining table.

UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake visits 8-year-old Cut Adelia Nara at home, in Alu Jaya Village on Sabang Island, in Aceh Province. Cut Adelia, who contracted malaria in 2011, was the last child affected by indigenous malaria transmission in Sabang – whose prevalence rates were among the highest in Aceh Province. UNICEF supported the re-establishment of child and maternal health interventions, including an integrated malaria control strategy. Sabang, home to 30,000 residents, is now malaria-free. UNICEF and partners selected the island as the pilot area for a targeted programme that aims to eliminate malaria throughout the country..

From 26 February to 2 March 2014, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake visited the northern province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (commonly called Aceh) on Sumatra Island to view first-hand post-tsunami recovery and reconstruction efforts based on the principle of ‘building back better’, as well as disaster risk reduction efforts in the province – which was the area most affected by the devastating 26 December 2004 tsunami. Long-term development continues in the country some nine years after the disaster, which affected nine countries and killed nearly 230,000 people. In Indonesia, an estimated 170,000 people in Aceh Province alone were killed. The tsunami also destroyed infrastructure, schools and health facilities, and caused massive social, economic and environmental destruction. An estimated one-third of all affected were children. The tsunami triggered one of UNICEF’s largest emergency operations, which was funded by a wide variety of donors, including UNICEF National Committees. National Committees contributed US $328 million to the humanitarian response. The Government’s emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction interventions, supported by UNICEF and other partners, included programmes to strengthen the country’s health system by integrating immunization, antenatal care, malaria control and other health interventions to build the resilience of children and their families. Mr. Lake met with children and families, teachers, health workers and community leaders; and visited schools, health facilities and other UNICEF-supported projects sites in Banda Aceh and on Sabang Island. He also visited memorial sites honouring those killed during the tsunami and met with senior government officials and representatives, local representatives and UNICEF staff during his visit. Mr. Lake was accompanied by Chair of the United States Fund for UNICEF Peter Lamm and Vice-Chair of the Japanese Committee for UNICEF Yoshihisa Togo. Both Committees were among the biggest donors after the tsunami.

The Great White Pelican is a huge bird. In breeding condition the male has pinkish skin on its face and the female has orangey skin. It has white plumage, a bare pink facial patch around the eye and pinkish legs. Males are larger than females, and have a long beak that grows in a downwards arc, as opposed to the shorter, straighter beak of the female. Immature Great White Pelicans are grey and have dark flight feathers.
The pelican's pouch serves simply as a scoop. As the pelican pushes its bill underwater, the lower bill bows out, creating a large pouch which fills with water and fish. As the bird lifts its head, the pouch contracts, forcing out the water but retaining the fish.
The Great White Pelican breeds from southeastern Europe through Asia and in Africa in swamps and shallow lakes. In Africa, they occur mainly around freshwater and alkaline lakes, and may also be found in coastal areas.
