Residence of Herman Willem Daendels
A great thunder lord and a father of the coolies
The birthplace of Herman Willem Daendels (1762-1818) and the Daendelshuis where he lived with his wife and children. Daendels was a revolutionary by Dutch standards. He joined the patriots, a political movement that wanted to put an end to the rotten regime of Stadholder Willem V. Daendels was therefore a fervent supporter of the French Revolution (1789). After the French invasion of the Netherlands (1795) he made a career in the Dutch army. In 1807 Daendels was appointed governor-general of the Dutch East Indies by Napoleon and he ruled the colony until 1810. A much less well-known colonial administrator from Hattem was Johan François Adriaan Cateau van Rosevelt (1824-1891). He was the eldest son of an impoverished Zeeland family and made it to agent general for Immigration in Suriname and later also a member of parliament. In contrast to Daendels, who was called Toewan Besar Goentoer, the great thunder lord, Cateau van Rosevelt's contract workers in Suriname called “Koelie-papa”, father of the contract workers.
The Daendelshuis on Kerkhofstraat was first occupied by Daendels' in-laws. His wife inherited her parents' house and has lived here with her children since 1811, most of the time without her husband. Daendels went alone to the Indies, where he lived for a while with a Bantam princess, probably the ancestor of the Indies branch of the Daendels family.

This is the first time any of the tugs which have been the UK Coastguard Scotland Emergency Towing Vessel have ever been in Stromness.
All the tugs prior to Ievoli Black were all too deep draughted to enter Stromness Harbour.

Running uphill in loose stone whilst falling victim to what seems to be a never ending rainfall. Not what I had in mind for my Saturday morning hike. But we found the bridge and our timing couldn't have been better, or worse, let's just say we made it happen!

Due to the disappearance of Abellio from and around the Ruhrgebiet, the train services Essen - Hagen (RB40) and Essen - Hamm - Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe (RE11) had to be temporarily operated by a third party. In the case of the RB40, TRI Train Rental was awarded the contract and for the RE11 TRI and Centralbahn came into action together. TRI used trains with locomotives class 182 ('Taurus') and 189 and their own carriages; Centralbahn ran with class 111 of DB Regio and two or three double-decker carriages.
On January 29, 2022, 182 560 belonging to the leasing company MRCE with five TRI carriages was en route on the RB40 line; in the photo you can see the train as 33757 just in front of the stop Essen-Kray Süd.

“Bass Brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The main brand was Bass Pale Ale, once the highest-selling beer in the UK. By 1877, Bass had become the largest brewery in the world, with an annual output of one million barrels. Its pale ale was exported throughout the British Empire, and the company's red triangle became the UK's first registered trade mark.
Bass took control of a number of other large breweries in the early 20th century. In the 1960s it merged with Charrington United Breweries to become the largest UK brewing company, Bass Charrington. The brewing operations of the company were bought by Interbrew (now Anheuser-Busch InBev) in 2000, while the retail side (hotels and pubs) was renamed Six Continents plc. Because at the time Interbrew controlled a large portion of the UK beer market, the Competition Commission instructed Interbrew to sell the Bass brewery along with certain brands to Coors (now Molson Coors), while retaining the rights to the Bass brand. In 2010, it was widely reported that AB-InBev was attempting to sell the rights to the Bass brand in the UK for around £10 million to £15 million.
In the UK, draught Bass (4.4% ABV) has been brewed under contract in Burton by Marston's (formerly a relatively minor competitor) for AB-InBev since 2005, while bottled products are brewed at AB-InBev's own brewery in Samlesbury, Lancashire, for export. Bass is also brewed locally in the United States and Belgium. Bass Ale is a top ten premium canned ale in the UK, with 16,080 hectolitres sold in 2010.”

The Standedge Tunnels are four parallel tunnels beneath the Pennines in northern England. Three are railway tunnels and the other is a canal tunnel. They are located at the Standedge (pronounced Stannige) crossing point between Marsden and Diggle, across the boundary between the West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester conurbations. Before boundary changes in 1974, both ends of the tunnel were in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
The canal tunnel is a key part of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Having been authorised by an Act of Parliament on 4 April 1794, construction work commenced on what was anticipated to be a 5,456-yard (4,989 m)-long tunnel only months thereafter. Within two years, several cost-saving measures were enacted which pushed back the envisioned completion date; work was also negatively impacted by the high levels of water encountered, which were much greater than had been expected. Amid this, it proved difficult to secure skilled help; some contract tenders went unanswered while figures like Benjamin Outram chose to withdraw from the venture. During 1807, the famed civil engineer Thomas Telford established a new detailed plan of work for the initiative; this was successfully and strictly followed throughout the rest of construction. During 1811, the tunnel finally opened; it is the longest and oldest of the four and is the longest and highest canal tunnel in the United Kingdom.[1] Having been closed to all traffic in 1943, the canal tunnel was later re-opened during May 2001.
The first, single-track railway tunnel, built for the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) on their line between Huddersfield and Manchester, was completed during 1848. However, it quickly proved to have insufficient capacity and a second, parallel, single-track tunnel was opened during 1871. Finally, the LNWR opened a third, double-track tunnel nearby on 1894. All four of the tunnels are linked by a series cross-tunnels or adits located at strategic intervals, which had allowed the railway tunnels to be built quickly by reducing the need for construction shafts, and allowed for waste materials to be removed by boat. Of the railway tunnels, only the one double-track tunnel completed in 1894 is currently used for rail traffic; the others remain intact but are presently disused. The Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre, at the Marsden end, serves as a base for boat trips into the tunnel, as well as host to an exhibition depicting the different crossings.
Miss Roxy having a chill Saturday afternoon watching a light rain falling while sitting out on the porch. Today is a good day to practice using my wireless connection between my camera and my iPhone. Tomorrow we will be going to see how the construction is going at the new house. We hit a snag on the original house. Seems there was an adverse encroachment on our property by a fence from the farmers land behind us. The builder said he was not going to resolve the situation. After some back and forth and our attorney’s involvement, they cancelled our contract with a full refund of all monies invested. It took a couple of weeks but we found what we think is an even better location, a larger lot that is better and a floor plan with a lot more features we like. The delay is a hassle but it will be worth it. If the weather and supply chain hold up we hope to close and move in in about another 8 to 10 weeks. Hope to get some decent photos to post tomorrow. We have also found a great Aussie breeder here in Georgia and look forward to the possibility of a little brother (or sister maybe) for Roxy after we get in the new place.
I was really thankful today. Even though with the rain, I didn't really get that wet. I seemed to miss the worst of it between driving and having lunch. Always things to be thankful for. ❤ I only did two jobs today but one of them was my friend/customer Gary's english laurel hedge. I was pretty happy with it over all though it does have a few wholes that it needs to fill in. I hope everyone is having a great day today. 😃

Galloping Goose is the popular name given to a series of seven railcars (officially designated as "motors" by the railroad), built in the 1930s by the Rio Grande Southern Railroad (RGS) and operated until the end of service on the line in the early 1950s. They were derived from full-sized automobiles.
Originally running steam locomotives on narrow gauge railways, the perpetually struggling RGS developed the first of the "geese" as a way to keep its contract to run mail into towns in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. There was not enough passenger or cargo income to justify continuing the expensive steam train service at then-current levels, but it was believed that a downsized railway would return to profitability. The steam trains would transport heavy cargo and peak passenger loads, but motors would handle lighter loads.
Motors were not only less expensive to operate, but were also significantly lighter, thus reducing impact on the rails and roadbeds. This cost saving meant that the first Goose was paid off and making a profit within three weeks of going into service. RGS built more Geese, and operated them until the company abandoned their right-of-way in 1952
History
The RGS built its first motor in 1913, as a track maintenance crew vehicle. This was wrecked in 1925, but inspired the idea of using motors for scheduled service.
All of the "geese" were built in the railroad's shops at Ridgway, Colorado. The first was built in 1931 from the body of a Buick "Master Six" four-door sedan. It was more conventional in its construction than the later geese, though it had a two-axle truck in place of the front axle. Part of the rear of the car was replaced by a truck stake-bed for carrying freight and mail; this was later enclosed and partially fitted with seating. It was used for two years to carry passengers, US Mail, and light freight before being scrapped. A second "goose" was built in the same year from another Buick, but later versions used Pierce-Arrow bodies except for No.6, which was constructed partly out of parts taken from the scrapped No.1.
No. 2 and No. 6 were constructed with two trucks, with the rear truck powered on both axles. No.2 had an enclosed freight compartment (like a very short boxcar), while No.6 had an open bed similar to No.1 (but larger). It was used only for work train service. The other four had three trucks and were articulated in the same manner as a tractor-trailer truck. In these, the second truck was powered, and the freight compartment was essentially a conventional boxcar.
Initially, the "geese" were painted in black and dark green. In 1935 they were all painted in a silver scheme which they retain to this day, though the style of lettering and heralds changed over the years. In 1945, No.3, No.4, and No.5 were rebuilt with Wayne bus bodies (at least the front half) replacing the old Pierce-Arrow bodies. This provided more passenger seating and comfort. A year later they also received new war surplus GMC engines.
In 1950, when the railroad finally lost its mail contract (in favor of highway mail carriers), No.3, No.4, No.5, and No.7 were converted for tourist operations, and the "Galloping Goose" name was officially recognized by the railroad. Large windows were cut in the sides of the freight compartments, and seating was added. A figure of a running goose and the words "Galloping Goose" were added to the carbody doors. This service lasted only two years, and the last work of the "geese" on their home line was to take up the rails.
It is unclear exactly where the name "Galloping Goose" comes from. It is mostly commonly suggested that it referred to the way the carbody and the freight compartment tended to rock back and forth on the line's sometimes precarious track. It is also suggested, though, that the name arose because the "geese" were equipped with air horns rather than the whistles of the steam locomotives. The name was used informally for years before the tourist operations, though the railroad officially referred to the units as "motors".
A similar unit was built for the San Cristobal Railroad, and was rebuilt by RGS in 1934–35. When the San Christobal folded in 1939, this unit was returned to the RGS railroad and dismantled, with some parts going to rebuild and maintain Goose No. 2.
The Galloping Goose Regional Trail on Vancouver Island was named after a similar unit that ran on the Vancouver Island section of the Canadian National Railway from 1922 to 1931.
Galloping Goose No.5 (along with many local landmarks) was popularized in C. W. McCall's song, "Gallopin' Goose".
Surviving units
Of the seven "geese", only No.1 does not survive; it was scrapped in 1933. However, a replica was built in 2000 for the Ridgway Railroad Museum and is operational today. The other six are located as follows:
*Geese No.2, No.6, and No.7 are preserved at the Colorado Railroad Museum and are operational.
*Goose No.3 was sold to Knott's Berry Farm and is operated regularly during off-season periods when park attendance is low.
*Goose No.4 was on static display in Telluride, Colorado. It was restored to operation in Ridgway, Colorado, as of June 2012. With the restoration of Goose No.4, all of the Geese are now operable. Goose No.4 was moved back to Telluride in May 2013.
*Goose No.5 was bought by the city of Dolores, Colorado. After restoration in 1998 it is now operated from time to time on the Cumbres and Toltec and Durango and Silverton tourist railroads, as well as at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Having been associated with the DfT sponsored hire arrangement between Direct Rail Services and Northern Rail almost since its inception in May 2015 37 401 'Mary Queen of Scots' is seen passing the terraced cottages at Comley Bank on the approach to Aspatria station. She is working train 2C45 the 09.18 Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle on a grey damp winters morning.
Northern Rail are keen to dispense with this hire arrangement ASAP but it has been subject to a DMU cascade from ScotRail and Anglia releasing suitable class 156 DMU's to Northern which have been delayed. There have been several dates suggested for the final day but one has passed already namely the timetable change on the 8th December. Another possible end date was mid January but a new date of the 28th December is being banded about after 4 x 156's arrived from Scotland in mid December. That said the contract doesn't formerly finish until the end of March 2019, there was never an intention to run them to the bitter end so the two class 37 diagrams could finish at very short notice. I guess the motto "Catch them while you can" holds true. The four year hire period was deemed long enough for Northern Rail to obtain replacement stock after a botched cascade by the DfT in 2015 saw TPE 170's go to Chiltern to be replaced by 156's from Northern who were already short of units to the point it left an operational shortfall of stock.
So on a whim I watched Judas Contract, the newest movie from DC's animation studios, and as someone who's never read the story it's based on, and isn't actually a Titans fan, I honestly thought it was pretty good. Bizarrely enough it may be one of DC's best animated movies to come out after the Flashpoint movie.
Anyways, here's some figs.
Brother Blood: I didn't originally intend on making him but he had an interesting presence in the movie (at least until he turned into generic supervillain number six-million) so I ran with it. Elrond head, Indiana Jones torso, two capes, Glam Rock Bats legs.
Slade is an Onlinesailin in Ninjago armor.
Terra: Harry Potter head, CMF Amazon warrior torso.
Beast Boy: Put together this outfit after I used all the black and purple Beast Boy parts to make better figs. Clone armor, CMF robot legs.
Nightwing: Now with LBM Bruce Wayne hair.
Starfire is official, and Raven I posted long ago.
I didn't include Blue Beetle cause I killed his fig almost as soon as I got it (and also he had no bearing on the film whatsoever) or Damien cause it'd just be the official fig.
Let me know what you thought of the movie!
Cheers!
