Datana contracta - Contracted Datana catarpillars. These catarpillars belong to a rather plain brown moth with a wingspan of about 35–50 mm. The confirmed host plants of this species are Chesnut and Oak, but they have also been reported to feed on elm, hickory, walnut, witch hazel, and blueberry. I discovered a very large number of these catarpillars throughout my grandpa's blueberry patches, and can confirm in these photos that blueberries are indeed a host plant. I observed the most odd and intruiging behavior when I saw these catarpillars, they would spasm, all together in unison every 4 seconds or so. I observed this behavior on several of the blueberry bushes where are saw these guys, but only at about their last instar. I assume that their convulsive twitching was some sort of synchronized defensive strategy, and they seamed to be able to communicate using their white hairs on their bodies, because different groupings would have different spasm timing than others.

On May 29, 2024, bargaining between the University of Oregon Student Workers union and the university administration officially began. Student workers and supporters rallied at Johnson Hall at 12 p.m. and then marched over to the Erb Memorial Union, where the bargaining session occurred. The previous day, the union delivered a letter with nearly 1,500 signatures to the administration demanding open bargaining - the right for everyone to be present at the proceedings and see the proposals for themselves. Just minutes before bargaining began, the university agreed to that demand.
The bargaining session was slated to begin at 12:30 but administration negotiators arrived nearly 30 minutes late. Roughly an hour later, it was over; the union presented a hefty list of contract demands including greatly increased wages, better stipends for resident assistants, a shortened pay cycle, more transparent scheduling, free shift meals, improved healthcare coverage, and non-discrimination and anti-harassment measures. The university did not present a counter-proposal or respond in any way to the proposed clauses.

For the Contract 2 assignment, I produced a collection of self-portraits, small group images, and modeling shots for my clients. The self-portraits, planned for the magazine profiling regional photographers, reflect my own personal and professional stance as a photographer. When taking these photos, I used my tripod along with a remote trigger.
I chose the small group photos to feature a mother-son duo. These photos capture their happiness and loving mother-son relationship against a simple black backdrop. These were a little more difficult to take only because Jace kept moving, but despite the challenge of Jace's movements, the resulting images encapsulate the essence of the mother and son group dynamic.
For the modeling portfolio, Katie’s natural poise was highlighted by strategic lighting, creating a versatile set of images that could propel an aspiring model's career. With these modeling shots, I had Katie do a variety of different poses.
Following Peterco's stipulations, I've produced over 72 shots, with natural post-processing to maintain the authenticity of each photograph. I also used a simple background for each of the self-portraits, small group, and modeling photos, as well as constant or flash lighting. I did incorporate my diffusers as well when using my off-camera flashes. Another thing I made sure to have was my people that I photographed fill out the digital photo class photography contract. I picked my top 3 photos that turned out the best overall within my self-portraits, small group, and model photos.
