Usual thing in Jamaica. Containers as Shop or Bar.

We saw this container unloading yard from our ship, and I was drawn to the repetition of elements in the industrial setting.

so many neat colors to choose from. The container store is definitely a fun stop when we are in Northern VA.

Beautiful container with a polished look and feel

Until now, I didn't know that there are tomato plants that were crossbred for container gardens. They have a sturdy center stem and the tomatoes grow from that.

I now have two in my half-barrels.

At the first installment of the Back-to-Basics Boot Camp: Survival Skills for Sustainable City Living workshops, presented by ReadyMade and Socrates Sculpture Park, at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, NYC.

This one was on container gardening, with experts from Eagle Street Rooftop Farms in Brooklyn, and Plant Specialists in LIC. It happened on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

This was my biggest container in 2006. In the center is a spike (cordyline), and around it are two of each: gazania ("Talent Mix"), verbena ("Tukana Scarlet"), salvia ("Victoria Blue" - flowered late), vinca minor ("Illumination") and calibrachoa ("Million Bells Celebration Plum"). To my surprise, a sweet potato vine from last year emerged and wound its way up the spike. I thought I had dug out the tuber, and was impressed that a piece of it had survived the winter in an exposed container with no insulation.

Il progetto container

Il progetto container continua a rilento ma in attesa dei rack che arriverano i primi di maggio

Due to the illnesses that have affected me over the past year and a half, in more ways than one, I haven't been doing much with my container garden. I picked up a few geraniums from Wal-Mart, but basically, all I have left are a pair of extra-hardy perennials and self-seeders.

Here, of course are one of the baskets of ivy geranium and a type of sedum I forget the name of. The leaves are not very thick, for sedum, that is. They are bright green and "serrated", with these cute little yellow flowers.

Too bad I can't get any macro shots with my cameraphone. (My Canon AE-1 needs to go to the hospital.)

[Update 6/1/2009] I just came back from a visit to my local nursery, where I found out the name of my mystery plant: sedum kamtshaticum. There's not a whole lot of nursery/gardening info that I can find online, and fewer images, so I am happy to add this ID to these photos. Most references I've been finding online pertain to using the plant for "green roof" experiments and installations. Cool!
