The Waxing Gibbous on August 10 has an illumination of 96%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On August 10 the Moon is 12.96 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases. Moongiant

You find a selection of my 80 BEST PHOTOS (mostly not yet on Flickr) here: www.lacerta-bilineata.com/western-green-lizard-lacerta-bi... (the website exists in ESPAÑOL, FRANÇAIS, ITALIANO, ENGLISH, DEUTSCH)

ABOUT THE PHOTO:

So this photo is a bit of a novelty for me - at least here on Flickr, but it's also a journey back in time in a sense. I've always loved b/w and sepia photography; already as a very young teenager I would go out into the woods with an old Pentax Spotmatic (which I had nicked from my father) whenever it was a foggy day to shoot b/w compositions of sunbeams cutting through the ghostlike trees.

I used films with a sensitivity of at least 1600 (for those of you who remember what that means 😉 ), and the resulting photos had an incredibly fine grain which I loved; I blew them up to the size of posters and hung them on the walls of my teenage man-cave next to Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Slash.

But then I abandoned photography altogether for 20 years, and when I finally picked up a camera again, it was one of the digital kind. Now neither film nor grain played any role in my photographic endeavours - let alone b/w compositions: because the reason I fell in love with shooting pictures once more was the rare and incredibly colorful lizard species that had chosen my garden as its habitat.

It's this species - the Lacerta bilineata aka the western green lizard - that my photo website www.lacerta-bilineata.com/ and also my Flickr gallery are dedicated to, but I've since expanded that theme a bit so that it now comprises the whole Lacerta bilineata habitat, which is to say my garden and its immediate surroundings and all the flora and fauna I find in it.

I like that my gallery and the website have this clear theme, because in order to rise to the challenge of portraying all aspects of a very specific little eco system (which also happens to be my home of sorts), it forces me to constantly explore it from fresh angles, and I keep discovering fascinating new motives as my photographic journey continues.

Which brings me to the horse pasture you see in this photo. This playground for happy horsies lies just outside my garden, and it normally only interests me insofar as my green reptile friends claim parts of it as their territory, and I very much prefer it to be horseless (which it thankfully often is).

Not that the horses bother the reptiles - the lizards don't mind them one bit, and I've even seen them jump from the safety of the fly honeysuckle shrub which the pasture borders on right between the deadly looking hooves of the horses to forage for snails, without any sign of fear or even respect.

No, the reason I have a very conflicted relationship with those horses is that they are mighty cute and that there's usually also foals. The sight of those beautiful, happy animals jumping around and frolicking (it's a huge pasture and you can tell the horses really love it) is irresistible: and that inevitably attracts what in the entire universe is known as the most destructive anti-matter and ultimate undoing of any nature photographer: other humans.

Unlike with the horses, the lizards ARE indeed very much bothered by specimens of loud, unpredictable Homo sapiens sapiens - which makes those (and by extension also the horses) the cryptonite of this here reptile photographer. It's not the horses' fault, I know that, but that doesn't change a thing. I'm just telling you how it is (and some of you might have read about the traumatic events I had to endure to get a particular photo - if not, read at your own risk here: www.flickr.com/photos/191055893@N07/51405389883/in/datepo... - which clearly demonstrated that even when it's entirely horseless, that pasture is still a threat for artistic endeavours).

But back to the photo. So one morning during my vacation back in May I got up quite early. It had rained all night, and now the fog was creeping up from the valley below to our village just as the sky cleared up and the morning sun started to shine through the trees.

And just as I did when I was a teenager I grabbed my camera and ran out to photograph this beautiful mood of ghostlike trees and sunbeams cutting through the mist. There had already been such a day a week earlier (which is when I took this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/191055893@N07/51543603732/in/datepo... ), but this time, the horses were also there.

Because of our slightly strained relationship I only took this one photo of them (I now wish I had taken more: talk about missed opportunities), and otherwise concentrated on the landscape. It was only later when I went through all the photos on my computer that I realized that I actually really liked those horses, even despite the whole composition being such a cliché. And I realized another thing: when I drained the photo of all the color, I liked it even better - because there was almost a bit of grain in it, like in the photos from my youth.

Since then I have experimented quite a bit with b/w and sepia compositions (some of which I will upload here eventually I guess), but this photo here is the first one that helped me rediscover my old passion. I hope you like it even though it builds quite a stark contrast with the rest of my tiny - and very colorful - gallery. But in the spirit of showing you the whole Lacerta bilineata habitat (and also in the spirit of expanding my gallery a bit beyond lizards and insects), I think it's not such a bad fit.

As always, many greetings to all of you, have a wonderful day and don't hesitate to let me know what you think 😊

Isn't it just like Heaven

When You walk into the room

There's not a thing that's hidden

When every eye is on You

Can't get enough of Your presence

It's the perfect point of view

Isn't it just like, just like

Just like Heaven?

Hmm, come a little closer, stay a little longer

Hmm, I can't get enough of You

Hmm, come a little closer, stay a little longer

Hmm, I can't get enough of You

Doesn't it sound like Heaven

When You're singing over me

There's not a voice more constant

Your melodies, they never cease

Here I will stand in Your presence

In my true identity

Doesn't it sound like, yeah, it sounds like

Just like Heaven

Constant companion at a sailing turn in Croatia

One constant in our life is the evanescence, we are mariners on a journey through the time. In that short episode, what we call life, we are passing moments that are so special that they stay in our memories forever. But mostly, they went away very fast as well, so its to easy to miss them.

This here, was one of those moments. The flowers will be withered in two weeks, the sun will set on a different spot tomorrow already and this fabulous light will be faded away in only five minutes. To be able to experience this is filling me with happiness, that I was able to capture and preserve it with pride.

Be attentive on Your path, take the time to linger once in a while and to really see.

EXTREMELY VOCAL, and can be a proficient mimic of both animate and inanimate sounds. Love the way a starling walks with characteristic swagger, and the flight is rather undulating and the wings look pointed and triangular in outline. /// SOMETHING out of the norm. for me, but felt it had something of appeal going for it, so have risked posting it, hope you enjoy it.

"OUR EARS ARE CLOSED"

Sea and mountains, valleys and streams

Night and day were all in Gods dreams,

The Garden of Eden with its precious tree

The Son He gave to set us free.

The seed He placed in the heart He made

Don't let its flowers wither and fade,

Is the ear closed to His constant plea

For in truth we live to disagree.

Have we not learned a thing from the past?

Why is the blindness we have so vast ?

We've ignored His word since time began

To do as we will has been our plan.

Has the Saviour's death not opened our eyes

When His blood was shed for our demise,

Mocked and beaten, betrayed from within

God's Holy Lamb pierced for our sin.

When the reaper comes and we walk to the gate

Do we all stand in line, to wait and wait,

Or will the one who gives life lead you through

And walk with you to paradise and life anew ?

The berlin cube cloudified and kaleidoscoped for Sliders Sunday. Composite made of two images taken there in mid July. The first image is a capture I took standing right next to the cube's facade and pointing the camera straight up. In Photoshop, I copied the layer with the original image, flipped the new layer horizontally, and cross-faded it with the first layer by using the blending mode "Overlay" at 75 % opacity. 100 % would have resulted in a punchier look on the right side, but I rather liked the softness and that it somehow looks as if the cube would slowly dissolve into or merge with the clouds. The next step was to replace the sky above the cube(s). For that I used a small part of the very first image I'd taken at the cube; I was just about to compose the image in the viewfinder when I noticed the bird, and decided to skip the composing part in favour of the bird ;-) (Birds, just like photographers, love the new berlin cube. There was a constant coming and going on the cube's roof, and it seems that, while not even all new tenants have moved in, yet, the cube's roof has already been occupied by the bird population that lives in the Hauptbahnhof area.) Next, I gently HDRified the finished composite in Aurora, then went into ON1 where I added some sunbeams to the upper sky part of the image, and added a soft glow for an extra airy look.

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, have a nice and safe new week ahead!

When time is up and the sun, it dies

Til the rivers flood and the ocean dries

Hand in hand under the falling sky

I will love you

When I'm oh, so old that I lose my mind

I still look at you like it's the first time

So many say it and its all a lie

But I will love you

You are the reason I make it through the day

You give me the reason, oh, to plan out all my ways

The beauty goes, the money spent, and everything else fades away....You are my constant

Clematis is a genus of about 380 species within the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. Their garden hybrids and cultivars have been popular among gardeners, beginning with Clematis 'Jackmanii', a garden standby since 1862; more cultivars are being produced constantly. They are mainly of Chinese and Japanese origin.

Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

Confidently lost

Comfortably indulging

And trying to get to know me

I'm just an outline of what I used to be

Constantly evolving

Steadily revolving

I am confidently lost

I don't need you to find me

You don't define me

I am confidently lost

I don't need you to find me

Cause I'm not hiding

Made up of hope and meditation

Love, imagination water my creations

Baby it's amazing

All the days I'm facing

Nothing seems to phase me

Cause I

I am confidently lost

I don't need you to find me

Cause I know how it is

Anything

Thinking about where I've gone

Where I'm going

And I wouldn't change it for the world

Thinking about where I'm from

If I belong there

But I wouldn't change it for anything

(I wouldn't change it for anything)

consistently,

continually,

you.

I was greeted with some moody conditions during a recent exploration around the Coniston area of the Lake District. I often scout for new waterfall locations using ordinance Survey maps looking for area's marked waterfall. However I stumbled upon this set of falls partly by accident owing to a wrong turn earlier on in my outing. This one can be chalked up as a happy accident, however there are plenty of times when the accident isn't as happy.

The reason I like shooting waterfalls so much I think is because they remind me of the constant flow of life, and how over millennia, the force of the water has carved out channels and pathways. This scene I think you could be mistaken for thinking was located in Scotland rather than the English lake district, but thats what I love about exploring, there is always something new and exciting to find.

Waterfalls with a mountainous backdrop in moody conditions are definitely my happy place.

I hope the new born MERCY will be big enough for all Grinches in the World :-) !!

She lies in wait for the arrival of her goslings, each day constantly priming, preening and tiding up the nest. It won't be long now before three goslings will emerge from under those magnificent downy feathers, and make their way into the world.

Shortly after this photo was taken, that's exactly what happened.

Constantly changing, the view from Chicago's Wolf Point is fantastic at early blue hour. The office lights are just becoming visible, but there's still plenty of light --- and the trains are still running frequently enough so you aren't waiting forever between shots.

Thanks to our very sweet friend Cindy for the idea. She thought it would be great that she and her friends would take a picture today at 9:09 :) It was a great idea we thought. :) Of course Slinky wanted to be in the shot! And he was checking the time constantly so we wouldn't miss it :)

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

"Paw Prints Left By You" (author unknown)

You no longer greet me, as I walk through the door. You're not there to make me smile, to make me laugh anymore. Life seems quiet without you, you were far more than a pet. You were a family member, a friend... a loving soul I'll never forget.

It will take some time to heal - for the silence to go away. I still listen for you, and miss you every day. You were such a great companion, constant, loyal and true. My heart will always wear the paw prints left by you.

This is an old picture taken when they had only been together a few weeks. We bought Penny because Stella was lonely for dog company. She wanted a playmate.

Your heart stores up memories

Does it not?

And so does mine

I remember when I caught

The blood

Instead of wine

I could do anything

At that moment

I could move mountains

Make the sun always shine

I could give you life everlasting

So you would always be mine

But you left me

And my fearful gift

Left me with my broken promises

And unending sorrow

Always wondering

Why you left me behind

But now I know

I have worked it out

I am your hope

For those where it has run out

I am your love

Your endless covenant

Bound together

With the divine

This is only the second time I have taken this particular Grail cup out with me on a shoot. I have had it for quite a while in my possession, but have not felt until now that I had found the right church or churchyard setting for it. Previously, I had taken it out into the landscape and photographed it surrounded by snowdrops. However, I have been to a different church recently, although still in Sussex, at the village of Ripe. The Grail and I seemed to make wonderful connections here; the Grail, the churchyard, the tomb and the camera and my constant quest.

Even in the midst of turbulence, there is always something to hang on to.

It seems like whenever I visit this part of Walthamstow, there is always a bit of road being dug up, a new crane on the horizon or some other redevelopment in progress.

Sometimes life surprises you in the nicest way. After a lifetime of having hyperactive small dogs that barked at the slightest noise, I now have a large, gentle dog that basically wags his tail at everyone. The joy he has brought me and the rest of the humans in my family grows every day. Long live Cooper, the wonder dog!

Last Thursday we went for a walk to Joyce Archdekin Park to get a few shots of the Japanese Sakura cherry trees which are in bloom. This is the earliest I can remember that they are blooming, usually we have to wait till the second or third week of May.

It started reining the next day and since then the constant rain has taken all the blooms off of the trees. Luckily we took that opportunity to get those shots.

18-march-2022: the perpetual alternation between low and high tide, more marked precisely in this area where the tidal masses are channeled along the entire narrow Adriatic Sea, has greater variation in conjunction with the days around the full moon and the new moon.

It is therefore an astronomical phenomenon, but that Weather Patterns can alter, even massively.

In "my area", for most of the winter and with a peak in March, there were numerous extreme low tides and minimal high tides, this due to the over 1040hpas of adiabatic pressure and the continuous currents prevailing from the East or North-East.

So, every +1hpas over the terrestrial average pressure (gravity) value of 1013hpas corresponds to 1cm less in the level of that sea placed under the adiabatic pressure of the anticyclone and obviously vice versa in case of decreasing pressure.

The north-eastern currents tend to move the water masses towards the West and then towards the South following the anti-clockwise current that goes up the Adriatic along the Dalmatian coast and descends it from the Italian side.

All these factors "empty" the Gulf of Trieste which is also the Northernmost Spot of the entire Mediterranean Sea!

The exact opposite occurs with Low Pressure and the activation of persistent "long currents" from the South or South/East, in which cases not only Venice ends up under the surface of the Northern Adriatic Sea.
