Finnair Plc is the flag carrier and largest full-service legacy airline of Finland, with headquarters in Vantaa on the grounds of Helsinki Airport, its hub. Finnair and its subsidiaries dominate both domestic and international air travel in Finland. Its major shareholder is the government of Finland, which owns 55.9%[ of its shares. Finnair is a member of the Oneworld airline alliance.
Finnair is the sixth oldest airline in continuous operation and is consistently listed as one of the safest in the world. The company's slogans are Designed for you and The Nordic Way.
In 1923, consul Bruno Lucander founded Finnair as Aero O/Y (Aero Ltd). The company code, "AY", stands for Aero Osake-yhtiö ("yhtiö" means "company" in Finnish). Lucander had previously run the Finnish operations of the Estonian airline Aeronaut. In mid-1923, he concluded an agreement with Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG to provide aircraft and technical support in exchange for a 50% ownership in the new airline. The charter establishing the company was signed in Helsinki on 12 September 1923, and the company was entered into the trade register on 11 December 1923. The first flight was on 20 March 1924, from Helsinki to Tallinn, Estonia, on a Junkers F.13 aircraft equipped with floats. The seaplane service ended in 1936 following the construction of the first aerodromes in Finland.
Air raids on Helsinki and other Finnish cities made World War II a difficult period for the airline. Half of the fleet was requisitioned by the Finnish Air Force and it was estimated that, during the Winter War in 1939 and 1940, half of the airline's passengers from other Finnish cities were children being evacuated to Sweden.
The Finnish government wanted longer routes, so it acquired a majority stake in the company in 1946 and re-established services to Europe in November 1947, initially using the Douglas DC-3. In 1953, the airline began branding itself as Finnair. The Convair 440 twin-engined pressurised airliner was acquired from January 1953, and these faster aircraft were operated on the company's longer routes as far as London.
In 1961, Finnair joined the jet age by adding Rolls-Royce Avon-engined Caravelles to its fleet. These were later exchanged with the manufacturer for Pratt & Whitney JT8D-engined Super Caravelles. In 1962, Finnair acquired a 27% controlling interest in a private Finnish airline, Kar-Air. Finnair Oy became the company's official name on 25 June 1968. In 1969, it took possession of its first U.S. made jet, a Douglas DC-8. The first transatlantic service to New York was inaugurated on 15 May 1969. In the 1960s, Finnair's head office was in Helsinki.
Finnair received its first wide-body aircraft in 1975, two DC-10-30 planes. The first of these arrived on 4 February 1975 and entered service on 14 February 1975, flying between Helsinki and New York, later between Helsinki and Las Palmas.
Finnair created Finnaviation was established in 1979. It was formed from the reorganization of Wihuri OY Finnwings (which had started services in 1950 as Lentohuolto OY) and its merging with Nordair OY. Scheduled domestic services began in October 1979. In the early 1980s Finnair held a 60% shareholding. Finnaviation was eventually completely merged into Finnair.
Finnair became the first operator to fly non-stop from Western Europe to Japan, operating Helsinki–Tokyo flights with a modified McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30ER in April 1983. Until then, flights had to go via Moscow (Aeroflot, SAS, BA) or Anchorage (most carriers) due to Soviet airspace restrictions, but Finnair circumvented these by flying directly north from Helsinki, over the North Pole and back south through the Bering Strait, avoiding Soviet airspace. However, Finnair did not have to make a roundabout because of the Soviet regulation on this route, but the Japanese authorities demanded it (as JAL requested strongly). The aircraft was fitted with extra fuel tanks, taking 13 hours for the trip. The routes through Soviet airspace and with a stopover in Moscow also took 13 hours, but flights with a stopover in Anchorage took up to 16 hours, giving Finnair a competitive edge. In the spring of 1986, Soviet regulators finally cleared the way for Air France and Japan Airlines to fly nonstop Paris-Tokyo services over Soviet airspace, putting Finnair at a disadvantage.
Finnair launched a Helsinki-Beijing route in 1988, making Finnair the first Western European carrier to fly non-stop between Europe and China. In 1989, Finnair became the launch customer for the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the first of which was delivered on 7 December 1990. The first revenue service with the MD-11 took place on 20 December 1990, with OH-LGA operating a flight from Helsinki to Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
In 1997, the subsidiaries Kar-Air and Finnaviation became wholly owned by Finnair and were integrated into the mainline operations. On 25 September 1997, the company's official name was changed to Finnair Oyj.
In 1999, Finnair joined the Oneworld airline alliance. In 2001, Finnair reused the name "Aero" when establishing Aero Airlines, a subsidiary airline based in Tallinn, Estonia.
In 2003, Finnair acquired ownership of the Swedish low-cost airline, FlyNordic, which operated mainly within Scandinavia. In 2007, Finnair sold all its shares in FlyNordic to Norwegian Air Shuttle. As part of the transaction, Finnair acquired 4.8% of the latter company, becoming its third largest shareholder. Finnair later sold their shares in 2013.
On 8 March 2007, Finnair became the first airline to order the Airbus A350 XWB aircraft, placing an order for 11 Airbus A350 XWB (plus 8 options), with delivery started in 2015.
Finnair has suffered from many labour disputes in this period, resulting from cost-cutting measures prompted by competition from budget airlines.
On 1 December 2011, Finnair transferred its baggage and apron services to Swissport International as per a five-year agreement signed on 7 November 2011.
As of 2022, it transported about 2.9 million passengers, a substantial decrease from 2019 as COVID-19 pandemic shut down airports and airlines due to travel restrictions. At the end of 2022, the airline employed 5,325 people on average. From 2022 onwards, the Russian airspace closure has forced Finnair to suspend some services to Asia.
In March 2023, Finnair announced it would terminate domestic flights from both Tampere and Turku to Helsinki in favor of coach service due to low demand and the short distance.

A half-century into their recording career, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico are still one of the leading salsa acts in Latin music, which is all the more remarkable when you consider that founder and bandleader Rafael Ithier was well into his eighties when he and his orchestra released Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso. The third full-length studio album released since Gran Combo de Puerto Rico left Combo Records at the turn of the century, after a quarter-century of releasing a new studio album more or less every year on the label, Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso is no less exciting than its predecessors, Aquí Estamos y...¡de Verdad! (2004) and Arroz con Habichuela (2006), the latter of which won the group a Latin Grammy award for Best Tropical Album. The title track of Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso storms out of the gate as the album opener. One of El Gran Combo's best singles in recent years, "Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso" is straight fire and sets the album aflame from the get-go. While none of the subsequent tracks on the ten-track album measure up to the stand-out title track, there are plenty of highlights, among them a new version of "Achilipú," which was originally released on the classic album De Punta a Punta (1971), and "Colombia Tierra Querida." Fans of El Gran Combo know what to expect on Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso, as this group is nothing if not consistent, and the album doesn't disappoint, the title track in particular.

When I got off the overnight bus at Haldwani after 8 sleepless hours and dragged around a 15 kg rucksack to catch another local bus to Ranikhet at 4:40 in the morning, I had a feeling I wasn’t quite prepared for what I’d signed up for. And while nursing an increasingly worsening backache, when I hiked another couple of kilometers to reach a shared taxi stand to take me to my rural home stay further away from the city, all the memories of me just sitting around in my air conditioned Bangalore office, listening to songs on YouTube and changing fonts on presentation decks came back to me. I wanted to go back in time, grab myself by the shoulder and yell at myself for being ungrateful about those small, little pleasures. Ah, the good life!
In spite of my fascination for the hills, I have to admit that it has been a culture shock of sorts. This place is beautiful but also hauntingly silent, especially in the evenings (at 7) as everyone heads back home to their families. That’s 5 hours before my usual sleeping hour! I’m now staying in a cozy little place overlooking the mountains. My host is an immensely sweet woman who cooks incredible food. Even then, while I zone out to the faint buzzing of the insects in a very, very quiet night I almost miss the incessant noise of traffic in Bangalore till the early hours of the morning. It is funny how even seemingly unpleasant things can become a part of our comfort zones.

Recently I did a group test of slow speed fine grain B&W film stocks (Adox HR-50, Rollei RPX-25, and Ilford Pan F+ 50). Here are the results. I keep the camera, lens and development consistent across the rolls.
My assessment of Adox HR-50:
- Very fine grained, high resolution and very sharp
- High in contrast, thus need to be careful with lighting (flatter the better) and processing (very gentle agitation)
- Film base is clear and colorless, good candidate for reverse processing

- Camera: Pentax MX
- Lens: SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7
- Film: Adox HR-50
- Development: Adox FX-39 II, 1+9, 7 min at 68F
- Scanning: Nikon Coolscan V with Nikon Scan

Athletes with great power and explosiveness, for the most part, dominate athletics. Hunter is the term used for the controlled, balanced, rhythmic manner in which the horse completes the course of jumps. Judging is based on the horse’s movement and the rider’s ability to safely maneuver the course in a consistent manner. Horses are Hunter-type. English attire and tack are used.

Kathy Biggs site says of the female Black Spreadwing:
size: small/medium, slender, length 35 - 42 mm (this was consistent with it’s size relative to other known damsels that were present (e.g. larger than Pacific Forktails, and Exclamation Damsels)
female: more stout; more brown, sometimes coppery; emerges pinkish
habitat: sloughs, ditches, ponds (This was near a pond)
Distribution map is in agreement.
Her site had a photo of a teneral Lestes stultus female that had a build and color suggestive of this one to me.
The terminal appendages look consistent to me. Note the two very thin lower parts fairly clear in this size even, but I will add a closer view.
Few weeks of the consistent training had paid off and the result was better than expected. As I was training, along the way, I met new people, learned new stuff about running and obviously, became more fit :)
And then, on Sunday morning, when I was cycling to the starting line seeing parents with their kids on the back of the bikes or just warming up before the run, all of a sudden I felt excited. Memmories when my dad was taking me out for a run suddenly coming back...

Tell me the absolutely superb show! Gripping, intelligent, funny and wonderfully dark. The standard of acting is consistently high, as is the writing. All the characters are believable and interesting, managing to convince at each and every turn as they slowly descend into a life of criminality. The show seems to have an uncanny way of building tension, even in the normally mundane. Someone told me that it is Breaking Bad dvd release, is that true? Satisfactoriamente avanzan las obras de infraestructura adelantadas por Prosperidad Social en los municipios de Villanueva y La Jagua del Pilar al Sur de La Guajira, consistentes en la construcción y renovación de tres parques y la pavimentación de más de mil metros viales en el barrio El Paraíso, respectivamente.
Así lo evidenció el director general de Prosperidad Social, Nemesio Roys Garzón, quien hizo un recorrido por las obras junto a la comunidad y autoridades locales de los dos municipios en donde se ejecutan estas obras con una inversión superior a los $8.300 millones.
"Estos proyectos de infraestructura llevan calidad de vida a la población de estos dos municipios del Sur de La Guajira, los terminaremos este año satisfactoriamente y están incluidos en las 65 obras que de manera histórica estamos ejecutando en el departamento con una inversión superior a los $128.000 millones durante el gobierno del presidente Santos", afirmó el director general de Prosperidad Social, Nemesio Roys Garzón.
El proyecto de construcción y remodelación de los parques 6 de Abril, La Fe y Román Ovalle en Villanueva registra un avance de cerca del 45%, beneficiará a más de 19 mil habitantes con una inversión superior a los $6.400 millones. Los espacios deportivos cuentan con cancha polideportiva, sintética y sistema de gimnasio biosaludable, brindando a la población
escenarios de encuentro, ampliando el potencial cultural y deportivo del municipio.
Por su parte, el proyecto de construcción de más de 1.000 metros de pavimento vial en el barrio El Paraíso en La Jagua del Pilar, registra un avance del 92% e incluye además la construcción de más de 1.000 metros de andenes, zonas verdes y señalización con una inversión de $1.905 millones.
La obra mejorará la calidad de vida de la comunidad que ya no padecerá afectaciones por el polvo o el encharcamiento en época de invierno. Se mejorará la conectividad del barrio con otros sectores, optimizando y reduciendo tiempos de desplazamiento. La obra, generó 35 empleos y beneficiará a unas 170 familias del barrio El Paraíso.
En La Jagua del Pilar también iniciará próximamente el mejoramiento de condiciones de vivienda de 100 hogares.

Por su parte, el proyecto de construcción de más de 1.000 metros de pavimento vial en el barrio El Paraíso en La Jagua del Pilar, registra un avance del 92% e incluye además la construcción de más de 1.000 metros de andenes, zonas verdes y señalización con una inversión de $1.905 millones.
La obra mejorará la calidad de vida de la comunidad que ya no padecerá afectaciones por el polvo o el encharcamiento en época de invierno. Se mejorará la conectividad del barrio con otros sectores, optimizando y reduciendo tiempos de desplazamiento. La obra, generó 35 empleos y beneficiará a unas 170 familias del barrio El Paraíso.
En La Jagua del Pilar también iniciará próximamente el mejoramiento de condiciones de vivienda de 100 hogares.

A half-century into their recording career, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico are still one of the leading salsa acts in Latin music, which is all the more remarkable when you consider that founder and bandleader Rafael Ithier was well into his eighties when he and his orchestra released Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso. The third full-length studio album released since Gran Combo de Puerto Rico left Combo Records at the turn of the century, after a quarter-century of releasing a new studio album more or less every year on the label, Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso is no less exciting than its predecessors, Aquí Estamos y...¡de Verdad! (2004) and Arroz con Habichuela (2006), the latter of which won the group a Latin Grammy award for Best Tropical Album. The title track of Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso storms out of the gate as the album opener. One of El Gran Combo's best singles in recent years, "Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso" is straight fire and sets the album aflame from the get-go. While none of the subsequent tracks on the ten-track album measure up to the stand-out title track, there are plenty of highlights, among them a new version of "Achilipú," which was originally released on the classic album De Punta a Punta (1971), and "Colombia Tierra Querida." Fans of El Gran Combo know what to expect on Sin Salsa No Hay Paraíso, as this group is nothing if not consistent, and the album doesn't disappoint, the title track in particular.
