ARC, ZUG, SWITZERLAND: PHOTO CREDIT SIIA/Stokasmud www.stokasmud.com. Financial investors and leaders of more than 30 different faith traditions representing over 500 faith investment groups and billions of dollars in assets, met in Zug's beautiful Lassalle-Haus retreat centre together with the UN and some key impact investment funds, for a unique international meeting on Faith in Finance. Asking the question: “what do you do with your investments to make a better planet?” they launched the Zug Guidelines on Faith-Consistent Investment and a new alliance to support this movement. ZUG, SWITZERLAND: Financial investors and leaders of more than 30 different faith traditions representing over 500 faith investment groups from eight religions and billions of dollars in assets, met in Zug's beautiful Lassalle Haus retreat centre together with representatives of the UN and some key impact investment funds, for a unique international meeting on Faith in Finance. They are there because they have all agreed to set out and make public their priorities for positive investment – a huge shift from the faith tradition of saying, for ethical reasons, what they won’t invest in. Asking the question: “what do you do with your investments to make a better planet?” they will give huge impetus to a new movement of faith assets to funds where they have a positive “faith-consistent” impact. www.arcworld.org/projects.asp?projectID=674

Clarion Alley, San Francisco. Between Mission & Valencia. Consistently Amazing Artwork. 2000.

Answering to any number of names; Conga ant, bullet ant, 24 hour ant, lesser giant hunting ant, the one thing consistent is the pain they cause. In their natural range from Nicaragua to Paraguay, a single stink is likened to being shot with fiery waves of pain which continue unabated for up to 24hrs. It is no wonder then that a sting by a bullet ant is rated a 4+ on the Schmidt pain index, the highest of any insect. Though apparently some tribes, notably the Satere-Mawe of Brazil have put this dubious benefit to their advantage. They gather up a large number of these ants, up to 100 and then sew them into a glove, stingers facing inwards. This is then presented to a boy of the tribe. In order to graduate to manhood he must don the glove and leave it on for a set period of time without crying out. This process is repeated, sometimes 20 times until the tribe is satisfied and the boy has become a man. Fortunately there are other uses and the poneratoxin is currently being studied in modern medicine as a voltage gated sodium channel inhibitor which blocks synaptic transmission in insects though it acts as a smooth muscle agonist in mammals.

These are the largest of the Ponerine ants achieving lengths of 20-30mm long. They display little variation between castes, workers displaying variation only insofar as a normal distribution curve with no specialization. They make nests at the base of trees and forage on the surrounding trees, climbing into the canopy to search for nectar sources and small invertebrates. If they feel their nest is being threatened they release a musky odor and stridulate from a pair of organs in the thorax.

1. Be consistent. If you hope to build a list of targeted subscribers, you must be consistent with your work. Twitter marketing can work really well when done correctly. For example, if you were to start a Twitter account and did nothing but post your link for your business, people would not trust you. So what can you do? I suggest that you only use Twitter when you have crucial updates. That way people only see your business when it matters. And if you're trying to build a list, this is crucial.

"The Consistent Life Ethic is the underlying principle of our faith that urges us to affirm life from the moment of conception to natural death, in attitude as well as in action."

Just before I jaunted out to spend the whole day at the California Invitational Relays, I lathered myself in 30 SPF sunscreen... all the standard areas (face, neck, shoulders (though I rarely have my shirt off at track meets), arms, and back of hands). This day though, the sun was a tricky kitten.... this day the sun scorched my legsies... scorched them something fierce.

The top thing is that it's not even a consistent burn so now I can't say "yeah, I was running in a relay... for like 5 miles... around and around (so I would get all sides of my legs) so... yeah... I'm awesome!"

Now when I walk around with shorts on everyone's going to know that I was eating BBQ ribs of the tastiest persuasion while watching track and field evens in the mid-day sun.

Damn my tell tale sunburns!

Nathanael Chu was a consistently running in the 18’s this year for us. He was our number 2 runner almost every race except at the Domes where he posted a team leading 18:14. He has been a star for us for a very long time now, and it was great to see him get a plaque listing our three big wins this year.

St Mary Magdalene, Stilton, Cambridgeshire

Another locked church. I was now beginning to realise that the Stilton group of churches was a dead loss, although I had been advised that this one was ordinarily open. A small stone church, everything in proportion, nothing elaborated. There is a large and brave modern extension on the north side facing the main road, which contains the parish rooms. Normally these are hidden away, but here they make a virtue of it, and it is very well done. Still, none of this helped me see inside. In any case, the best feature here is a fine selection of 18th and early 19th Century memorials, a mark of this place’s prosperity when it was a main stopping off point on the Great North Road.

I headed down to the High Street. It is extraordinarily wide. Until 1958 this was the Great North Road, and traffic hurtled through between London and the north. It was superseded by the A1, and when Pevsner came this way he noted an air of dereliction, of Stilton being a dead end place. The A1 in turn was replaced by the A1(M) in the 1990s, and today nobody passes through Stilton. There must be several thousand people in the new estates, but of course they all work and shop in Peterborough. The one attraction the High Street has to offer is the Bell Inn, a lovely stone 17th Century coaching inn, where Stilton cheese was first sold - hence the name. It was never made here of course, it was brought for sale by farmers in the nearby villages of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. The Inn was derelict in the 1990s, but today has been renovated as a boutique hotel.

Ever one to give a place the benefit of the doubt, I came back to Stilton church the following week, and it was still locked.

The Washington post: Iran preparing internal version of Internet

By James Ball and Benjamin Gottlieb, Thursday, September 20,

Last month, Iran’s communications and information technology minister unveiled a plan to take key government agencies and military outfits offline and onto the new network by the end of September. U.S. security researchers say they are for the first time seeing evidence of an operational network that is consistent with Iran’s publicly stated plans.

One of the most consistently recommended attractions in Rio was the Museu do Amanhã, the Museum of Tomorrow. It's basically a glorified science museum, with a sort of highbrow speculative fiction twist, but really the selling point is the spectacular soaring architecture on the banks of the baía de Guanabara. I thought it looked familiar, but immediately upon seeing it, Lonnie declared that it was basically a Rio version of the Oculus, the new transit center erected near us in downtwon New York after 9/11 by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. Smart man, Lonnie: he is also the architect of the Museu do Amanhã..

ed è in certi sguardi che si intravede l'infinito

Tutto l'universo obbedisce all'amore,

come puoi tenere nascosto un amore,

ed è così che ci trattiene,

nelle sue catene,

tutto l'universo obbedisce all'amore?

Agonopterix ciliella - 17/07/16 - Braughing Farmland

Hello all.

I finally got round to checking some of my specimens.

This Agonopterix heracliana/ciliella was trapped on my parents farm on the 17th of July and was retained to confirm which species it actually was.

I can now confirm that it is indeed Agonopterix ciliella and a first for the farm and my firs Herts record after checking countless specimens.

From external observations, the moth seems to have a slight purplish tinge to it though this may no be consistent among all specimens.

Moth Trapping down on the farm part 3 - This place continues to show me new moths!

I was back at my parents on Tuesday night armed with 5 traps and enough cable to spread them around to try and maximise light coverage.

The day was scorching hot and quite unbearable for work as I had to drive around a giant greenhouse on wheels, a minibus!

At setting up time at 9pm it was still a Mediterranean 25 degrees and it only dropped to 20c at 4am so it was absolutely perfect, bar the full moon and gusty wind. But you can't have everything can you?

The moths were quick to the lights and the list was creeping up steadily and by midnight we had over 100 species which was pleasing indeed.

Some local species were nice to see, such as Waved Black and Dotted Fan-foot.

Best moth was probably my second ever Anarsia lineatella, having seen my first a few weeks ago at the same location and in the same trap! It was to be the 3rd County record.

I was pleased to get a fresh example of Grapholita funebrana, a first for me and possibly may have been over-looked in the past.

Another new moth for me was a Cochylis flaviciliana/roseana. It is more likely to be roseana as this is local in the County but I will get it double-checked just to be sure, still a really pretty moth but o so tiny!

I also potted up an unusual looking Scoparia, which seems to resemble subfusca but it still doesn't look quite right for any of the British species, it most likely is an aberrant form of one of the commoner Scoparids. Again it will be checked to verify the record.

The farm never disappoints and this visit was no different with 166 species recorded.

Kimmy Williams was born and raised in San Francisco and chose to attend SF State due to its consistent celebration of diversity. Williams graduated in May 2012 with a B.A. in humanities and a minor in Italian. Since post grad, she now owns a skincare center in downtown San Francisco by the name of Acqua e Sapone Aesthetics. This center specializes in treating problematic skin conditions like acne through holistic coaching and clinical facials. Williams said, “I chose this work because I wanted to connect with people whose confidence may be suffering due to a skin condition and help them build their self-esteem and self-image.” Acqua e Sapone Aesthetics is 2 months old and Williams is “learning as [she] go(es) along!” “The name Acqua e Sapone literally means 'water and soap' in Italian but 'bella acqua e sapone' is an expression that means water and soap beautiful. This concept of just washing your face with soap and water and feeling beautiful without having to cover up who you are is a message that is lacking in the beauty industry and something I wanted to spread through my work,” said Williams. Williams wants to encourage college students and anyone trying to find their path in life to follow their passion. “There are a lot of sweat and tears that go into building a career and opening a business and the thing that will keep you moving forward is the joy of doing that thing every day that you would be doing whether you got paid or not,” said Williams. This drawing exercise was an attempt to create a consistent look in egg-shaped heads, independent of size and perspective. If you study each head and compare heads among each other, you can clearly see I still need a lot of practice. The six heads were drawn in roughly 45 minutes. It was the second batch of drawings for this exercise, and certainly not the final.

The problems are manyfold. You first have to draw an outline, that is consistent with the egg form. This means you need to have a mental picture of the 3D shape. Then you have to put in the features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.), which have to look consistent when comparing left and right side of the face. And third you have to make the expression consistent in all the faces, which also requires a mental picture of a curved plane with the features place on it. Remember, this is illustration, so sometimes the image has to modified slightly from the mathematically accurate three dimensional form. Clarity is generally more important than an accurate and realistic depiction.

All three things have to be done more or less simultaneously, requiring full concentration of an artist who still has to learn all this.

Consistently seen on menus here in Iceland: things with a sauce they call Bearnaise but clearly is not. Tastes something like a combination of mayonnaise and margarine. I haven't acquired the taste yet!
