Northern Trains Class 158 No. 158907 hitched to Class 153 No. 153378 cross Gauxholme Viaduct with 2R94, the 12:17 Leeds – Wigan North Western service on 13th March 2020.
For the Macro Mondays theme of "Plugs and Jacks" I chose the three phono sockets at one end of a cable that connects our DVD player to the TV. At the other end sits a scart socket.
This is a blend of three exposures. The first exposure is lit from the left hand side by a torch which was covered in a Blue gel. Exposure number two was lit from the right with the torch covered in a Red gel. Finally the third exposure was backlit by the torch covered in a Green gel. I tried a version with the Red and Blue exposures reversed but it looked better with the Blue on the left and this maybe because the cables are Red in colour.
I reduced the shutter speed to 20 seconds for the backlit exposure but the two side lit exposures were both 30 seconds.
The three exposures were imported into Photoshop and then stacked together with the blending modes of the two upper layers set to lighten.
Not perfect but just a little fun.

I spent a few hours wandering this UNESCO heritage listed site with fellow photographer, Kent Johnson. This wall looks like it could tell a few stories.
A major drawcard is the UNESCO World Heritage listed Convict Site, which provides a window into the era when Cockatoo Island was a convict gaol (1839-69). Further highlights include a waterfront campground, licensed cafes, a historic dockyard, holiday houses and apartments, guided and self-guided tours and exciting seasonal events.
The island connects to the waterways and homelands of the Wallumedegal, Wangal, Cammeraygal and Gadigal peoples. During the 60,000 years leading to European settlement, the island was a meeting place for these groups. They have the Dharug language in common and, in Dharug, Cockatoo Island is known as Wareamah.

This concrete monster is in a bit of a state, but redevelopment plans are in the making.
Inside the city, it's easy for residents to connect and work together. Outside in the forgotten zones however, things are very different. There are small groups eking out an existence, separated from each other by disaster and ruin. In order for these folks to get what they need, they need someone to connect them. Someone to find them, and report back to the city to ask for help. They may not directly deliver goods, or shuttle people to distant locations, but the service they do supply is invaluable. Without them, many people would never be able to make it on their own. Despite otherwise being law abiding citizens, the activities of these "Connectors" are highly frowned upon by the establishment of District 18. While they find it easy enough to control a closed population, the outliers pose a potential threat to their authority.
While I built this purely for fun, I'm still planning to enter it in the District 18 Speeder Bike Contest. There are so many great designs being entered, it'll be fun to be part of such a terrific group.

Again on the Soo Line's original mainline between Minneapolis and Sault Ste. Marie (and again a possible re-post of a slide I had scanned commercially), the Amtrak F40 and "Amfleet" equipment is NOT a reprise of the long gone (1960) remains of the "Atlantic Limited." The occasion was a series of employee specials between Shoreham Shops in Minneapolis and the Trollhaugen ski/picnic park, just east of here. 1983 was the centennial celebration of The Soo's beginnings, when a connection was begun between Minneapolis and the Sault to connect with the also new beginnings of Canadian Pacific. From the Sault (pronounced "the Soo") the new railroad could give Minneapolis flour millers a way to ship to the Atlantic ports without being gouged by "the Chicago railroads." After a brief busy period during which the Soo did just what it was designed to do, the Chicago connections woke up and the MSt.P&SSte.M reverted to the mostly sleepy mainline through the northwoods of the Upper Midwest, carrying a pair of passenger trains and usually only one pair of freights the whole length - over 500 miles - of their mainline. A few locals served the stretches of more intense business that were along the way. There were also along the way a few connections with other railroads and with parts of the fledgling Soo Line that were added. One of those split off just behind the train here to head for the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior. Most of that is gone now, but the rock pit just outside of Dresser still serves CP for its supply of "traprock" ballast, just as it had for the Soo.
A day of out on the streets of Cardiff yesterday for some photography, specifically to take abstract pictures of this hotel currently under construction. The Project Manager even stopped for a chat and explained various aspects of its construction.
The grid like pattern of the windows reminded me of the classic Connect 4 game.
