Back in the 1980s I cut my computing teeth on the BBC Microcomputer for both work and play.
Despite the limitations of its graphics it was exciting to pilot the Spitfire for landings and take-off, fly under the bridge and through the high-rise buildings of Acornsville.
Initially the game had to be loaded via a Compact Cassette and flying with the keyboard buttons was very difficult.
The Voltmace joystick made flying very much easier.

This screen is closer to the 'in-game' look of Heroes of the Pacific. But this screen still flatters it I think! The graphics quality of this game belies it's age as it's a few years old now (released for XBox in 2005!) - but as a budget title it's an OK diversion.
Your starting point in the desert mission. Here my Mk. V Spitfire and my wind men 'take off' (you never seem to really take off in this game) to intercept waves of German bombers over Cairo.
