The orthopedic team was testing a new device for assisting surgery of bones re-axing. It is something like the motion capture used in motion pictures. Kind of weird and high technology aopplied to our job.

Atoms carrying information inside quantum computers — known as qubits — sometimes vanish, corrupting data and spoiling calculations. Sandia researchers discuss the first practical way to detect atom loss for neutral-atom quantum computing, bringing scientists closer to realizing the technology’s full potential.

The Martinsville Branch offered the first Internet workstation to the public in the second half of 1996. In 2013, there are fifteen of these workstations and six more children and adult computers in use for educational games and word processing needs. Here a young lady is typing a cover letter.

The central part of Sandia’s neutral-atom quantum computing apparatus includes a vacuum chamber. Objective lenses on either side of the vacuum chamber are used to focus laser light into single-atom traps at Sandia.

At The National Museum of Computing www.tnmoc.org at Bletchley Park, on a trip with Sarah, Jenny and Stephen AKA Spacedog.

Sharir is Professor of Dance And Technology at the University of Texas, and Yei has collaborated with him for the past two years; previously he collaborated with a team of architects in Salt Lake City.

 

Sharir and Yei demonstrated three iterations of wearable computing suits which they have developed in the past two years. Sharir said: "Issues relating to human/virtual interactions have been around for a long time, but we have never mastered the technology." He moved on to show video footage from a project using the first wearable suit developed with Wei Yei, entitled The Automated Body Project. This featured the pair's cyber-suit: "Which collected data from the wearer, including EEG information, talked to a "mothership" and returned, via radio-frequency communications, an image representing the data. You could move your eyes and the image would move, or extend an arm and the image would extend - the images were projected on a transparent screen. A dataglove also let me manipulate that material in real-time."
