Back in the Lofoten where three lakes are having a meeting.

That picture wasn't supposed to feature but yesterday's sharings weren't wide enough to fill up a line in my gallery, so there you go.

And if you don't understand what I'm talking about, know that today, if you're talking a glimpse at my gallery, it should go 2 pics, then 3, then 2, 2, 3, 4 and so on.

Just follow the metaphorical red carpet.

Balance in art is one of the basic principles of design, along with the composition to create visual equilibrium.

Not an ideal composition, but an interesting livery on this 33, the train is the 06.10 Yeovil - Waterloo.

Usually when I look at some old slides, I have some recall as to location. Not so with these three I'm afraid, and the map entries are a bit of a guess. Given the composition I suspect this was a grab shot just after jumping out of the car, and after looking at the next shot of 50030 I suspect it's from the far west end of Walton station carpark.

Looking through the box I think this was a day of trying to fill in gaps in my coverage of the LSWR mainline, as well as being in a good location for the few remaining Class 50 workings. So there was a lot of flitting about, and I ended up at Barford St.Martin, west of Salisbury, the subject of another scan.

Vulnerable identity

The impressive photos of Rineke Dijkstra, often frontal portraits of growing young people and young adults, put the vulnerability and strength of people in development. Her approach results in pictures showing both the social background and the self-image of the portrayed. That can be a boy who joins the Aliens Legion (Olivier, 2000-2003), a girl who strives to perfect her ballet performance (Marianna [The Fairy Doll], 2014), the insecurity and branie of deceased pubs during a club Evening (The Buzz Club, Liverpool, UK / Mystery World, Zaandam, NL, 1995-1996) or just women who experience feelings of pain and happiness at the same time (Tia, 1994, July, 1994, Tecla, 1994 and Saskia, 1994) .

The magistrally composed portraits are a manifestation of universally recognizable truths about humankind as a social being, with all (s) of certainty and life experience. The work of Rineke Dijkstra is known for its beauty and its virtuosity: her striking compositions are created by balancing attitude, detail and coincidence. The photos of Dijkstra are characterized by their technical workmanship and combine the objective view of portrait photography, such as August Sander's, with a striking emotional dimension.

The tide was to high for a composition to reduce foreground clutter (Unless I had stood chest deep in the water!).

Aberdeen Harbour, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. First established as a business in 1136 by King David 1st of Scotland, Aberdeen Harbour is, according to the Guinness Book of Business Records, the oldest existing business in Britain, with a history that has spanned almost 900 years. Aberdeen Harbour is one of the UK’s busiest ports. A world leading marine support centre, it is the principal port for the energy sector in Western Europe and serves a number of industries as the main commercial port in the North-East of Scotland. With trading links to more than 40 countries worldwide, Aberdeen Harbour generates in excess of £1.5billion GVA annually. As a Trust Port, it invests all profits into further development, amounting to more than £35million in the last five years. www.britishports.org.uk/our-members/aberdeen-harbour-board

Marine Operations Centre. This building is intended to be an iconic landmark, and has been designed around the style of a traditional lighthouse. It is situated at the inward end of the North Pier to allow the Vessel Traffic Services staff visibility over all three arms of the harbour, as well as the entrance. Built at a cost of £4.5 million, it entered service in 2006, succeeding the 'Roundhouse'. canmore.org.uk/site/282569/aberdeen-harbour-north-pier-ma...

Not of any great compositional merit, but a now historic photo shows a very neglected Haymarket station in Edinburgh, largely unmodernised by British Rail. The prominent station sign is a carryover from the 1950s, in the old British Railways Scottish Region Caledonian Blue colour. Even older is the defunct clock, probably a North British Railways vestige, like the lamp standard behind it. After being starved of investments, Haymarket was belatedly modernised during the 1980s, and a more radical transformation followed in the 2000s.
