Modern art galleries and museums have always wanted to tell a story in the usual fashion of linear history. So as a rule rooms in galleries tended to be set out in historical periods or particular styles. The contemporary curator however eschews all that, throws everything into the mix and allows the viewer to piece together their own story.
Now this is all very well for the informed art lover, but can be very confusing to those who have never studied art history. It's a sink or swim model, and the jury is still out on whether this approach is going to be successful.
This section of the QVMAG was recently renovated to allow for more works to be shown from the very large collection that Launceston has built up over 200 years (the settlement itself was founded in 1806). One problem for photographers is that the light intensity has been reduced to 40 lumens per square metre (for example a 60 watt light bulb provides 800 lumens per square metre). This is so the works are not damaged by excess light. But it does make getting good photographs of the works very difficult indeed. This photograph, for instance, appears much brighter than the lighting actually was.

For 121 Pictures in 2021 #95 "Still life composition" This one is partially suited for Addams Family fans. These are small peaches from central Texas, some apricots from who knows where, and a branch of slightly wilted rose blooms. The white thing is a vase the roses were in.

Compositionally Challenged Week 20 - Active Space
After looking in my bird books, I think this is a Swainson's Hawk.
We watched the hawk for several minutes while it moved from one branch to another before it took flight carrying a piece of bark.

Moving this image to the top of my photostream as Russia is ramping up its unprovoked, unjust and ultimately senseless war in Ukraine. We are standing for freedom together!

In March 2016, I published this image under the title "For Brussels, with Sorrow". Since then, so many people have died in similar attacks all over the world... I would like to make it a tribute to all of them, victims of brutal and senseless terrorism.

“Religion is a by-product of fear. For much of human history it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing people in the name of god a pretty good definition of insanity?”
-- Arthur C. Clarke
. . . . . (from the day the photo was published here) . . . . . . . .
Yesterday, in my ongoing review and cleaning of my old photos in Lightroom, I arrived to photos taken in Brussels. This morning, I heard the terrible news; another terrible news of the same kind: a score of innocent people killed and maimed by a bunch of insane lunatics. I love Brussels, and my heart goes out to the victims’ relatives and friends. I just can’t remain silent. From my small collection, I have chosen this photo of a sculptural composition with the name and author unknown to me. Today, I interpret it as a memorial to the victims who could still live, love, laugh, and work to make their city even more beautiful…

I now present a new series on a subject that has always fascinated me. Surprising compositions in the everyday, a special view of buildings, lines made abstract. I hope the intention comes across. The name of the new series is Lines and planes.
Here, the combination of light and shadow, reflections and architectural design was both attractive and a real challenge
