It *was* our server's motherboard that had died; I managed to find a replacement similar enough not to need any other components upgraded (not bad, nearly five years after I got the last one!). It finally arrived today; I'll be up all night rebuilding it, before we go away tomorrow - hopefully the computer will then be up and running nicely.
The first batch of components was ordered from Elfa and cost me a fortune. Later I found a way of ordering from Maplin in the UK; a much cheaper method.
